  1. Talking of players finding their way back into full time, I must admit I was delighted to see Ross McIver getting three goals in the last two televised Falkirk games and looking so happy.

It's been a great year for him, surpassing pretty much everyone's expectations. Sometimes a player brings exactly what a team needs and that IMO is what's happened with Ross at Falkirk.

Picked the perfect game to come back to Scotland for. That was a lot of fun.

Not a bad mark on any player today, from PJ in goals with some big saves to the forwards showcasing some real quality, it was a joy to watch. I was a coin toss for man of the match between Roberts and Virtanen though. Controlled that game with their composure and energy. Hetherington back into that mix too is a great problem to have, the complete opposite problem, to what we had last season.

This Alloa team seem to be able to rise to the big occasions, something I hope we can say come May. Again, a brilliant travelling support matched with the effort on the pitch. The scenes after every goal and full-time were superb.

The man at the helm, Andy Graham, maintaining his coolness when I spoke to him after too. Said on the pod, you see no difference in message whether we win 5-1 or lose 2-0. The message is consistent, never too high, never too low. A brilliant leader. Today, a real showpiece for his short reign so far.

Going into the playoffs (hopefully but looking good), this is a key point IMO. The squad itself looks much stronger (#). Midfield illustrates this as much as anything. Kurtis and Miko are playing well, but we also have Stevie H, Scougs and Robbo to come in if and when required. So we are very well covered for injuries - which is what did for us last year. The bench is looking ten times stronger than this time last season generally.

    # A squad which Brian Rice assembled, as I'm sure @Waspie will be first to acknowledge. Eh m8? 😉

Of course Andy has taken things to a new level and it's a good time to be an Alloa fan. As I've posted before (I think 🤔), we should cherish the likes of Bobby W and Taylor as much as we can just now. They'll be away in, hopefully, eight games.

At the risk of upsetting those who don’t believe statistics are relevant at this stage of the season, that is the 13th home league game Queens have played this season against teams not called Edinburgh or Annan and they have won precisely none of them.
    P13 W0 D3 L10.
Their home form continues to be a complete and utter disgrace.

Good grief. I knew your home form was poor, but that's astonishing.

  4. I've recently started eating wholegrain rice (microwaveable, 45p per pack from Lidl) as my main carbs source. It's not the tastiest, but it's OK and nutritional. I think it's good for me?

    ETA

    Wholegrain Rice

    Brown "seedy" bread

    Sundry microwaveable rice

    White Pasta

    Oven Chips

  5. Big test for Andy G IMO.

We need to stop the rot and a win is important to keep us in pole with five games to go.

It's likely Cove will lose at Falkirk, but both Cove and Montrose have games against Edinburgh left; so, very tight and likely to remain so.

Stirling are struggling, in a fight to avoid ninth spot against Kelty, QotS and Annan - none of who look like they are going to fold. They will be 100% ready and up for it.

Over to you Andy and the players. You need to deliver the three points on Saturday - we have the quality to do that IMO, but it will be tough.

Aye I watched this the other day. I didn't agree with Alfie's conclusions and I don't think that the game being more popular than ever (in terms of people watching it) can be used as a great argument in favour of the game being more exciting considering a lot of these fans will be new and have no connection to the way the game used to be played.

Anyway, I was thinking about trophies and wondering how much it is worth it to guys like Grealish. I have a feeling that, years from now, Grealish might regret giving up the expression of his truest footballing gifts  in exchange for some medals. It might seem heady now, but people will soon forget him. He may be one of those players from the wrong era.

Obviously it's best that England's best players don't fulfil their potential, but I can't help myself here because my footballing aestheticism and romanticism trumps petty rivalry. I'd love to see him move to a team on the continent where he gets to be the creative magician that we know he can be.

    Have a word with yourself.

  7. Really nasty crash today in the Basque Tour. Several riders look badly hurt including Roglic, Remco and Vingegaard - who all appear to be out of the race.

The former two at least walking to ambulances, but Jonas still lying in the recovery position. Hope none of them are too badly hurt.

They came round a corner and into a concrete (!) drainage ditch at the side of the road. Several rocks near it too.

Race currently neutralized as all medical cover used up. Brian Smith couldn't talk at one point as he was so upset by the pictures. ☹

🤣🤣🤣 Aye I googled Benedict Wong after the first few minutes of episode 1 and it turns out he's actually from fucking Manchester, so that's probably his actual accent.

😅 I'd only seen him in 15 Storeys High with Sean Lock, then he turns up in big roles in Marvel films. 😮

Headed up to the Women’s Open at St Andrew’s for a few days this summer? Anyone ever been to a women’s major and know what it’s like crowd wise? I’ve been to the men’s at Muirfield and Troon which were obviously great but chaos, hoping this will be a bit quieter and we can get a good view of it all.

I went to the Women's Open last time (?) it was at the Old Course. It was certainly pretty quiet then and easy spectating. Would imagine it's likely to be a lot busier this summer - women's game has kicked on quite a bit and is better known, more competitive. Should still be pretty relaxed though - thinking of heading there myself.

Expecting a tough game. We were pretty lucky to win last time Annan were at the Recs and their form has improved since then whereas we have obviously dropped off a little.

Number of selection issues for the manager and a few of them depending on fitness. Wales back in up top and Steven back on the right too if he is fit. Those two crucial. Podcast touched on LD and think there is a question there. Such a talented player and potentially a key figure in the middle of the three behind the striker but has looked a bit off the pace, which is understandable given his long lay off. Do we leave him and hope he plays his way back into fitness and form or go with cameos from the bench? Strong case for Scougall or Cawley there.

If Scougall does move up then Miko a decent option next to Roberts. Robertson is too - and based on the Accies second half Robbo and Roberts looked potentially the best pair we've seen since Stevie got injured. Really hoping to see Stevie soon as he remains the best option there. And hopefully Kurtis has had his batteries recharged this week, didn't think he was quite at his usual high standard against Kelty and QoS.

Questions in defence too depending on fitness. Ideally two of the three natural CBs make it and Cammy for LB I think. Defence will need to be ready for a lot of balls into the box.

Lot of questions there, who'd be a manager! Whoever we go with they're going to need to be up for it, Alloa just too flat the last couple of games.

Similar to my reply to Oweny, experience and composure vital from now to the end of the season. If we are talking experienced and composed central midfielders, then we are talking Robbo IMO.

Would have Cawley in instead of Scougal. Miko in too and young Coulston. I am fed up with scougals one good game in 5 routine . Just won't do .

I'd certainly be happy with both Kev and Miko coming in. Felt we have lacked a bit of composure/experience and steel the last couple of games and they would help address that.

I think you're a bit harsh on Scougs though.

Murray spent his career up against the Senna, Schumacher and Fangio of tennis, though. Djokovic, Federer and Nadal are the 3 greatest to ever have played tennis. In any other era Murray would have dominated for a decade.

I think It's quite a leap from the facts to that statement. Unless you are comparing Andy as he was (modern fitness, lifestyle, equipment etc) to past players with their equivalents. Not a valid comparison IMO.
