  1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Dickson https://www.clydefc.co.uk/match/fixtures/1984/ Bobby Dickson was the regular in that era. Craig Napier was the backup. That got me looking at results back then and Clyde did alright for a good while. Derek Frye scoring hat-tricks either side of a winning goal at Killie in '83 for example. Scoring 8 in 4 games the next season (2,3,2,1). Not a good time for St.Johnstone! Can't even remember St.Johnstone being relegated back then and also taking a wee bit of time to get back up.
  2. Rangers - Devils at Yankee Stadium about to start. Could be tasty. Look out for our rookie defender Gelinas' shot from the blue line if not familiar with the Devils.
  3. Was gutted to see so many games blacked out on Gamecenter Live yesterday (apart from an overloaded system that meant down time). Was not aware that Premier Sports have bought the rights in the UK and parts of Europe as I don't have Sky or similar. So that would be about $15/month to stream some games on PS combined with the $50 for the season on GCL. For anyone in the same boat I read that a free VPN connection is the way to go. http://www.securitykiss.com/ Install that, run it, go to option/change server. I picked the one at the top (Germany). Go to GCL to watch live game then disconnect VPN. Worked fine. I don't think the Devil's games are too badly affected early on but handy to know I can still watch them. Sabres just made it 2-2 v Flyers.
  4. Devs still hanging in there. Two hard fought wins gets it back to 2-3. Would be amazing to get them back to NJ to try and win the Cup. Think Doc mentioned in commentary at the end that it's the first time in 60 odd years a team has clawed back two games after losing the first three. Wish Kovalchuk would show up or just sit it out. A liability and not doing anything for us.
  5. Kings are the first team we've played that seem to know what they're doing and get it done! Very different to the previous rounds with not much space for Devils to get going while Kings are finding lots of room on their breakout. They don't panic much, move quickly and are hard to break down. Solid system. Quick in goal has been hard to beat, Brodeur has let in a couple that he could've done better with. For me, a number of players haven't got going in the final. Kovalchuk will always be an enigma, so frustrating. Protecting an injury? Clarkson and Zajac have faded too and Parise isn't getting much done with the puck. Despite all this it's come down to OT both times. 4th line has kept us going. Wee Gionta is terrific along with Carter and Bernier. Still been a good season and have largely enjoyed it. Always miss it when it's gone, which is probably two games away!
  6. If you've got the time to watch it live then try this. Time difference is the problem. 1am our time for Devils games on east coast but assume it will be 4am here for the games in LA. You could download from torrents or newsgroups to watch the full game next day. Just avoid the scores!
  7. S T A N L E Y C U P F I N A L !!! To put away the Panthers (arguably toughest series), Flyers & Rangers has been tremendous. Love being an underdog at times like this. Haven't watched Kings but they seem to have cruised into the final. To think Kovalchuk had a choice of New Jersey or Los Angeles last summer!
  8. $19.95 a month or $159 for the season. About £100. Factor in my cheap Clyde season ticket compared to the prices we had in the 1st division and I don't mind too much. Don't have cable and was fed up with streaming eventually. GCL lets me watch any game live or on demand and can also pause live games. Devs really putting everything into their game just now. The forecheck is really keeping the pressure on and forcing errors. Much like the Flyers series (even lost game 1 & hit back in game 2) but Rangers are tougher to break down. Need to make more of the good chances. Amazing amount of blocked shots though but eventually got some through to win game 2. Brodeur still a bit sloppy and brilliant all in the same game. I don't think Rangers will be caught in their own end as much from now on but we'll see. Hopefully Rangers are sunk without trace very soon. Take that any way you like! Saturday should be good. Scottish Cup Final, followed by Game 3 and then whatever is left of the Champions League Final.
  9. Devils waiting to see who they play. Beat Flyers in 5 games and quite comfortably too. Flyers did try hitting harder to get us off our game but it didn't work. Giroux getting suspended for the last game helped. He worried me but even the "world's best player" was off key in the series. Devs just sucked the energy out of Flyers with pace and tenacity and sensible hockey but were also aided by some poor play from Flyers. This despite giving them a goal start in the last four games! Even without Zidlicky in the last period last night they dug in to ensure the win. NY Rangers might be a hurdle too many in the East final but I thought that about Flyers. Rangers have seen what the Devils can do now so won't be underestimated. Been tough to beat them and from memory the Lundqvist v Brodeur stats show this. Not sure I could handle that match but know that the fans on both sides will be saying "bring it on". Capitals would be a to and fro series and pretty even. Bit like the 4-3 Panthers win perhaps. Getting my moneys worth from Gamecentre Live anyway.
  10. 3-1 up v Flyers and well worth it too. Fantastic to watch us doing this to team I thought was headed for the final (and still could be). Really stepped up their game from the last round and made the Flyers look like old men! Did the last round v Pens take it out of them? A pile of shots to keep Bryzgalov busy and at the same time restricting Flyers shot count. There has to be a reaction from Flyers and we showed v Panthers that performances can dip. Hope we just go for it again and don't do our sitting back waiting for trouble routine we use in period 3. Haven't seen much of any other games.
  11. I didn't believe! Tough game 7 but pulled through in double OT. Managed to stifle the pacey Panthers at last. Not sure if we can do that to the Flyers. If Brodeur is better than their 'keeper(s) then we might just get passed them. Need to slow them down and avoid penalties as our pk has gone to pot so far after being almost 90% during the season.
  12. Devils were outpaced again and went down 3-0 last night (yes 5 games in a row it's gone to 3-0 now). Below par effort and got what we deserved. Be lucky to get through as Florida's breakouts are far superior to ours. Generally dump and chase for us while they carry it in with pace and menace. Our passing and control looks sloppy far too often. Watched Flyers sending the Pens out. It'll be really good team that beats the Flyers. I thought their 'keeper(s) would cost them but Flyers really took advantage of the PP & a suspect Fleury/defence in this series. Sharks gone as usual, Devils won't be far behind, as usual. Red Wings gone, Rangers and Canucks on the verge of going and Boston need a game 7 v Caps. Some surprises at least.
  13. So for the 4th game in a row in the series, and the 3rd time by the Devils, the score went to 3-0. This time Florida looked slower to the puck as Devils played 3 periods instead of half of one period. The 4th goal finished it and Brodeur got another assist with his shut-out. Good stuff. I expect another response from Florida. Can it go to 3-0 again? 2-2 in the series now just as it was during the season. Is this the day that Pittsburgh & Detroit fall at the first? "Almost time for some wide open, undisciplined, crazy hate filled hockey." - Flyers fan on NHL website Canucks on the verge of trashing their city on Sunday as well?
  14. Watched Devils collapse to defeat last night from a 3-0 lead and just tuned in to see Pens v Flyers tonight. Was 2-1 for Pens but they were under the cosh for a few minutes due to consecutive penalties (4v4, 3v4 then 4v5) and it cost them 2 goals. Oh, back to 3-3 now! Life in them yet but...never mind, 4-3 Pens! I'll get this post finished yet! Was going to say they'll need to keep their nerve and discipline and that it could be a tense finish! Edit Ah, what do I know? 10-3 for Pens. Mental. Just looking down the scoresheet, PPG, PPG, PPG etc
  15. Gamecentre Live for me. Don't usually miss a Devils game one way or another. Love it but annoying if the scores are turned on 'cause you left them on from last time. Ruined a couple of games for me including a 6-4 win.
  16. Stunning start to the play-offs for Devils. 1st period and a 3-0 lead in Florida from 26 shots! Crazy. Haven't played with that intensity all season. Theodore was fantastic in goal for them with some great saves as well. Lots of rebound chances though. Saw Pens throw it away the other night and we already lost from a 3-0 lead in Florida at the start if the season. Hope we keep after them in the next 2 periods. A thing of beauty even if their defence stood and watched! Oh well, held on for a 3-2 win. You take that every time in the play-offs though. At least we held a lead! I see Penguins still can't shake off the Flyers. 5-5 at the moment.
  17. Devils at Rangers last night. 40 penalty minutes after 3 seconds. Proper hockey!
  18. I don't play it myself but Football Manager 2012 has been updated. "Added Rangers, Darlington and Portsmouth starting in administration with points deduction." I wonder how many monitors or laptops will get smashed up as they start a new game and reach tipping point as their virtual football team suffers too.
  19. Another musical interlude. Steven Naismith is gigging already as he tries to top up his wages. Here he is putting out a clear warning to the Rangers supporters so they can understand. I remember Peel playing them quite a bit and they have some amount of titles that could have been written with this Rangers situation in mind. "Knee Deep in Shit" seems apt but I quite like the more subtle "The Harder You Fall"
  20. Devils put the Penguins away 5-2 in a more low key game the other night (19 goals in 4 games!) and followed it up last night by beating Rangers 1-0. Great for 2 periods again before Rangers turned up in the last. They 'equalised' with 5 seconds to go but this was disallowed for goalie interference. Naturally the forums have seen some lively debate about this incident! Bottom line is it's 4 wins in a week against Atlantic division rivals with 2 versus the leaders Rangers and others against Flyers and Penguins. Montreal were the other team on the receiving end of the improving Devils. I expect us to fall flat v Blues at home on Thursday now.
  21. Haven't posted this season but worth mentioning a Devils 6-0 lead away to Flyers just now with a period still to go. Devils are playing pretty well but have also made Flyers pay for stupid penalties and scored 3 PP goals, 2 of them 5 on 3 I think. This was one of the worst PP teams on the league but have picked up recently. With a 1-0 lead and Flyers on a PP we should've been facing a 3 v 5 as well but the ref ignored a trip in centre ice and Kovalchuk raced away to score short-handed. Not unusual this season. Flyers basically lost the plot after that. At 0-2 and with a bit of composure Flyers could have worked there way back into this one but decided that brute force and late hits would fix things. No sympathy now. Penguins tomorrow as well so will be interesting if we reduce some ice-time for the top line in the 3rd. Edit: Comeback on. 6-3. Sadly Flyers have reverted to their disgusting cheap shots again. Horrible. Edit 2: 6-4. The big flare up cost us a few defenders in penalty minutes along with all their guys too so we've been suckered in to their game. Edit 3: 6-4 win. Not often we win at their place so a good two points. Totally soured for me by Flyers antics off the puck. Glad Kovalchuk flattened their guy in his fight. Not the easy 3rd period I might have hoped for though. Edit 4: Rinaldo slewfoots Parise / Kovy - Schenn fight Edit 5: Rinaldo got fined $2500 for that and another $2500 for a late hit earlier in the game. I can see players thinking it won't matter what they do on the ice as it's a standard $2500 fine. Do repeat offenders get a bigger fine/suspension?
  22. Ok, signed up for GameCentre Live ($19.95 a month) and impressed already! Pretty much a TV quality feed for me just as ESPN was. Difference is all the extra options. Up to four games on screen at once and PIP option as well with ability to swap them. Can hopefully avoid the ads that way! Pause/rewind live games. Archive for watching games at a sensible hour. Leafs are struggling to get out their own half so far v Habs. Both sides seem a bit sluggish. Bruins only now getting to the anthems after all the speeches etc. (Edit - Much better pace to this game compared with the game over the border)
  23. Good man. It was EA Sports NHL game that got me into this properly too (I played as Devils because of their Clyde colours and I stuck with them) although I used to love watching it in the olden days of World of Sport, Grandstand & Scotsport. That was generally British & international hockey though. The Stanley Cup would only be briefly covered if memory serves. ESPN had it on cable I think but they've sold the rights. Not sure if anyone is picking it up here. I paid to watch it online via ESPN Player for a couple of years after getting a wee bit fed up hunting the web for decent feeds. Looks like Gamecentre Live on NHL.com will have it outside America at last. Apparently there will be updates at the end of September about this. If the price is similar to ESPN (£70 for regular season if you buy early) then I might go for it. Couple of links later in this thread show the better quality you can end up with if you pay. Plenty of free streams out there though. Season starts on 8th Oct for Devils but 2 days before that for some other teams. Pre-season games start today, Monday 19th, but Devils not playing big rivals NY Rangers until Wednesday and again on Friday. NY Islanders on Saturday. Check HFBoards for GDT (Game day threads) for possible video streams of games. NHL.com for schedules, news, stats, etc and a link to all the clubs across the top of their home page. Looking forward to a more stable season for Devils and a play-off place. The new coach will maybe need time but we really need to hit the ground running this season. Parise is back after missing last season with injury so that should help on the goal front. 6m55s v Canadiens was a great OT win after equalising with seconds to spare I'm sure. Jumped out of bed for that one I think! You can tell from Doc Emrick's commentary how exciting that game was. May as well throw in the . While I'm at it, . Never looked on that night but what a finish.Pity that Doc Emrick the commentator has left the Devils now for another network and we're getting the horrible Steve Cangelosi. Shat scaaars = shot scores. Just trying to get you into the swing of things. It's working for me too! You can look up Youtube for the Stanley Cup wins and the wiki for more history. Just ignore all the insults for choosing Devils when they come your way .
  24. Peter DeBoer named as the new Devils coach today. Wonderful name to fit the alleged Devils hockey ethos. Hope he hits it off and he does seem motivated to show people he's worth another chance after a couple of bad seasons with Florida. He did always strike me as a worried, lost man behind that bench. Great first season with them though. Expecting us back on course for the play-offs this season. Have added some strength (and mindless violence?) to the squad with the return of Cam Janssen. Eric Boulton adds strength, if no goals, to our lightweight forwards and defender Adam Larsson comes in as a top draft selection. Need to see who gets shipped out now but looks not too bad so far if not spectacular. Not quite the big money nonsense of last pre-season anyway. Perhaps getting Parise on board again shortly still makes it a pretty successful week.
