If we've got bags of cash then sign him but I doubt it The concern for a few of us is that signing up sibbald used up the budget and we don't have the cash left to bring in the young box to box midfielder or another striker say.  Man utd desperately needed a centre half and a defensive midfielder last season so they signed Ronaldo and lo and behold they were shite. We signed Griffith's last January when we were desperate for midfielders and centrehalfs and it did nothing for us.It's about filling the priority positions first .

We disagree on priority positions in that case. There is next to no creativity in the side which to me is our biggest concern outside of a goalscorer up top. Sibbald would be the ideal player to fill a hole in midfield/behind a striker and will create plenty chances.

  2. I don't understand the logic of saying we shouldn't sign a good player because he used to play for us and the existing squad has bad players in it?

Sibbald is a no brainer if he's willing to sign for us. He's been a really good player in a top flight team for years and is the sort who can win you matches. A midfield three of McGinn keeping things ticking over, a younger player going box to box and Sibbald pulling the strings is mouth watering.

Not quite on the same level but this reminds me of moon howlers on here turning their nose up at Kingsley when we were linked with him. Over-thinking things massively.

Won't matter anyway as Sibbs will get a better move than us and will be a standout in the league above.

  3. Got the bus into work this morning given the train strikes and I was hugely impressed with the driver. Not only did he take us all between bus stops, he collected payment or checked passes for every passenger, managed his speed accordingly and even used a steering wheel. These guys must be on six figures.

Working class as well. Its an extremely broad spectrum, and £24,000 net pay per annum isn’t even in the same stratosphere as middle class in the UK. It depends on your definition of middle class tbh but I would say upwards of £80k net per annum, along with numerous other factors such as assets owned, savings, investments etc.

It’s a subjective issue as I know guys who grew up in housing schemes that now have 6 figure businesses and 2 or 3 properties, but I would still label them working class. I’ve always thought of middle class Britain to be one rung under the elite, wealthy enough that they don’t need to work to sustain their lifestyle, and working class the rest of the way down.

80k net would be in the top 2% of incomes in Scotland

Ok  What’s your wage threshold for getting your teeth punched out then?

I can just imagine a conductor confronting a group of steaming guys on the last train from Central on a Saturday night. If the conductor is lucky they tell him to f**k off, and if he is unlucky he gets attacked by a drunken bam. Who’s more equipped to deal with that particular situation? The conductor or a police officer?

How is the situation any different to asking them to buy a ticket if they don't have one?

    - Admission is going up £4 to £18. Reading between the lines the club are expecting some big travelling support from Dunfermline and Falkirk in particular and they want to milk this cash cow

Even if you get the permission to have 1,200 capacity with the standing round the pitch, I'm not sure how that would constitute big travelling supports. You'd be looking at 800 max away support for 4 games? An extra four or five grand across the 4 matches versus setting it at a more reasonable 15/16 quid doesn't seem a lot in comparison to pissing off your regulars or potential walk up Hearts/Hibs fans.

  7. I think I'm in a minority in both of these views but

McGuffie isn't a world beater but he created a few goals last year and would be a passable starter if we're struggling to shift bodies going out the door. I'd rather have him as an option of the bench but would be fine with him wide in a midfield 4 or 5 if need be.

Morrison to me is 10x more effective playing as a central striker where he can get his head down and drive right at defenders. He presses well from the front and is a total pest against some of the bigger slower centre backs we come up against. I'd be fine with him as a starter up top with a partner in a 4-4-2.

That's a brilliant signing. And not even with the usual "for League One" caveat. Played for Scotland nine months ago!

When I saw he was leaving Hibs I wondered if the Rovers might be in for him, but I thought he'd be more likely to appear at a bottom six Premiership side.

You've had a few over lunchtime?
