Speaking to someone in the know, the drop in tickets is due to requests from police to leave the front 6 rows clear as they fear the potential of Raith fans on the pitch should they win. Whether that is justified or not that is what United have been advised and what has been passed to Raith.

As such, it is a drop in tickets from previous game, but similar number to what away fans should be getting in the Fair Play Enclosure, but that is shut until the summer when some maintenance is planned, as home fans were supposed to be behind the goal.

A good bit earlier in this thread, folk were shooting down the possibility of Police Scotland having any say in operational issues at Tannadice, even although every single game in the SPFL has to have an appointed 'Event Policing Lead'. The more high profile the match, the more the police will get involved in advance. It's easier than catching criminals.

I've little doubt you'll get shot down for writing this, so I'll emphasise it needn't have turned out this way, as United could have foreseen the end of the season could have placed demands on the capacity limits they've contributed to by their decision to close off the Fair Play Stand.

  2. Agree with @Tannadeechee above, nonetheless I've spoken to fans who have sat behind Goodwin at away games, and contrary to the majority view that he's negative and does little during matches to influence players and the game, they insist he is positive, coaxing the team forward, encouraging faster movement on the ball, and talking specific players through the game.

I've not witnessed that, and don't think Goodwin will ultimately be at Tannadice for long, yet there's no reason, you'd think, for these fans to make this up.

Aye, did he not quit football as he was going to make more money in the polis? A scorer in a European Cup semi final as well. Different times

Looked back at his timeline: Derek Stark was eventually forced to quit due to persistent knee problems over the whole of his final season, 83-84. A cartilage cyst finally ended his football career. He had looked to join the police a couple of seasons earlier, and left the club briefly, but had then signed his first full time contract in 1982.

Stark had signed as a 16 year old in 1975, and remained part time, working as a coachbuilder until 1981.

Dundee United run a year ahead with season tickets, I'm sure. Fairly certain there was a release about it some time ago.

I may have had a weird dream because thinking about it makes me wonder how they ever got to that point.

No, they don't. There's an opportunity to do so, or certainly was, but it's a matter of choice. Nobody I know does it.

I reckon there is no chance the police have restricted numbers of away fans due to other local games, given Falkirk have been offered 2500 tickets plus another 1000 if needed by Montrose.

Potentially Dundee Station at about 6pm might see Raith and Pars fans bumping in to each other but I dont see a massive Pars support out.

Tannadice is a proper ground that can and has a track record of holding several thousand away fans without issue, so I really think its down to United deciding to allocate us less tickets.

What has happened is United have locked down home sales to avoid away fans in the home end... again Im doubtful thats on police orders but I guess its possible.

Fair enough: we'll agree to differ. United have made an arse of things, closing down the Fair Play this season is shown up as an error for this match.

Dundee polis bottling it too? Madness.

It's Police Scotland: somebody in Tulliallan Castle will potentially be commanding each clubs' Safety Officer to restrict access to parts of their grounds, with little attention to common sense.

But I'm guessing it's more about limiting the number of fans travelling around the area, perhaps at key points like Dundee Station. And, of course, although stewards are utilised inside the grounds to lessen police involvement, the police have responsibility to ensure safety outside the stadium.

If it was either Glasgow twin visiting, matches wouldn't be treated with such heavy hands.

The police have told us to put this game on lockdown" 🤣wtf.

    St Johnstone v Dundee

    Arbroath v Dunfermline

    Dundee United v Raith Rovers

    Montrose v Falkirk *

I doubt the police have issued the word 'lockdown' to the clubs, but the SFPL fixture list for this Saturday at 3pm* is likely to have availability of the constabulary stretched, mostly in their minds, but perhaps in reality given the decline in behaviour surrounding some matches recently.

Unfortunately, clubs have to listen to them.

edit to add, Montrose/Falkirk  game is 5:30pm, which may create further issues.

It’s a really stupid clause on the contract really when you think about it - this game would probably get a really good viewing figure and people would be interested in seeing it.

it doesn’t even matter to the teams because they all get the same ££ distributed anyway

Aye, true to an extent, but I think the hospitality profit for home clubs takes a hit with a fixture move away from a Saturday 3pm.

Anyway, I'm over today already, but will be well pissed off if Raith take anything from next Saturday's game.

Remind me where Dundee passed up the opportunity to make money from ticket sales during those times.

Can't miss this opportunity: the 2003 Scottish Cup Final?

Nonetheless, that's irrelevant to this situation. I think United will see sense and pound signs and change the ticketing set up for the game in 9 days time.

Good on you for posting on here, but if there was a police issue then surely Rovers would have been made aware of it and it would have been communicated to our fans that was the reason.

I would get that if there had been running battles between both sets of fans, but as far as i am aware there has been not trouble at these games.

As I wrote, surely common sense will prevail, but perhaps United's lack of a "Head of Stadium & Facility Operations" has helped them make the present error.

Trio of pre war stars of the Scottish game, Archie Coats having been a prolific scorer for Dundee netting more than a goal a game over a long career.

Alex McSpadyn was also a consistent player for over a decade with Thistle, and made a few appearances following the 1945 conclusion of the war.

James McInnes appears to have been a left half, and turned out for Newcastle during the war years. All three players had their careers truncated by military service.

  12. United have handled this poorly, as per, but I think there has been police/safety officer advice, which hopefully will be changed in a day or two.

Ogren/Capuano appear to have decided not to open the Jerry Kerr/Fair Play at all this season to save money, which wasn't very forward thinking of them.

I'm optimistic that good sense (and greed) will prevail, and another 600 tickets released for away fans.

  13. Another tale which may or may not be true: Raith have got the Shed, but polis have insisted on a larger segregation section between it and the George Fox Stand. Maybe we'll find out at 10am.

All this doesn't affect me in the slightest, as I have a season ticket, but thought I'd just slide this one into Thursday.

Yes. We managed it the last game and our home crowds have been growing all season which you would assume would translate to this game being sold from our end.

You're quite clearly doing it to gain an advantage because you're absolutely shiting it from a team with a fraction of your budget who had an aim to finish 4th.

Like I said though, I'd be dissapointed if we didn't do the same if the shoe was on the other foot for where the game is played. Still petty and tin pot as f**k from a team who think they should be top 6 in the country.

I think initially United were planning to allocate behind the goal to Raith fans, but representation from supporters' groups have indicated that, in present circumstances, it would be bad PR for our own fans. It'd be a big surprise to me if they've changed their mind, as the club is great at shooting themselves in the foot, but it appears they have.
