    Folks! I think we've uncovered Cosgrove's account on P&B 😂😂😂

I was at a book festival where Cosgrove spoke for an hour on the history of black music in America. The guy knows his stuff. Yea, like many people who enjoy one genre they slate everything else ( I know several heavy metal fans who point blank refuse to listen to anyone else and have absolutely no knowledge of any other music).

He can play anywhere across the front 3 I believe. Could be a backup to Anderson (or replacement if St Mirren really put their money where their mouth is) or could even slot into one of the positions behind the striker that Pittman and St Kelly played today

How much do you think Anderson is worth? He is 25 and scored a grand total of 6 League goals last season. So what sort of fee are Livi looking for?

I doubt he's ventured that deep but if he does I'd be surprised if he didn't just revert to cliches.

He probably has very little idea about Mississippi Delta Blues from the 1930s which both the Stones and Zeppelin plundered heavily as they were both massive fans of artists like  Willie Dixon, Robert Johnson, Howlin Wolf, Memphis Minnie etc. The fact that Zeppelin also then mixed this with English folk and 1950s rock and roll would just leave him (dazed & 😆) confused.

You should maybe read Cosgrove's trilogy of Detroit 67, Memphis 68 and Harlem 69 where he goes into great detail on the history of black Soul music and its effect on American society particularly in those years. Cosgrove has interviewed countless black soul artists and spent a lot of time with black soul artists. His knowledge of black music in America is probably second to none to anyone in the UK. He also has a huge personal collection of black soul music. I am quite sure he could provide a program on Blues singers without doing any research.

  4. Hope we sign Mcmenamin and if we don't yea I would take Bruce Anderson. However he only scored 6 League goals last season so for Livi to want an inflated fee we should move on.

Unlike others I would take Fletcher over Main assuming Fletcher's fitness is ok for another season. Unlike Main he is a natural goalscorer and like Main he is a physical presence, just slower due to age.  Ayunga is also be a great physical presence. I wouldn't be disappointed if Main signed on again but we need a goalscorer.

But he was well out of position. That said, I don't think he even fits Robinson's model of what a wide forward in a 4-3-3 would be. many of us had assumed that formation switch would be Jay's best chance, but I think Robinson sees players such as Ayunga or Greive filling that role, if we ever did play that formation.

Totally agree. Just pointing out that he did get game time last season but he was never going to shine in a wingback position. He needs a defender behind him.

One of the things that amazes me is how fans completely disregard any youngsters coming through

On one hand fans bang on about wanting youth to be given a chance and yet, on the other, they want the squad filled up with new signings, even if they aren’t going to be first picks.

on this thread, I’ve suggested that 20 year Fraser Taylor (who looked promising at Pittodrie) might be a replacement for Jay Henderson (who himself came through from the youth but didn’t even play last season) and that Luke Kenny (who’ll be 20 in September) might be good enough to make up the numbers and be 6th choice CB (behind Fraser, Gallagher, Dunne, Taylor and Gogic)

I’m hoping these guys could be the new Lewis Morgan or Jason Naismith.

At 20 years of age, they’re old enough to be in the first team squad. It’s now or never!

But, no, they’re not even good enough to make up squad numbers (despite hardly having seen them play)

Forget our own promising youngsters, let’s sign experience jobbers instead just to make up the numbers!

    Shocking! 😜

Jay Henderson did play last season. His last appearance was up at Perth when he came on as a sub for Strain (injured) and was roasted.

Fletcher, Nehmani, Ayunga, Grieve and Jamieson as our forward options this season sounds pretty good.

McMenamin on right if we are looking for a change of shape would mean either bringing in width on the left or douring it out until Ayunga comes back.

Would imagine Brophy, Olusanya and Offord will all be gone,  the first 2 permanently the latter on loan for minutes.

    McMenamin is left sided.

Bolton News now saying Wanderers have pulled out of the deal to sign Baccus - no reason specified but there was a suggestion it might be related to a dodgy knee?

Sounds spurious to me but I'm sure it will come out in the wash - either way it looks like he's staying with the Buddies for now.

Hopefully he'll command a lot more money than we can afford if you sell him.

All the best and thanks again for your hospitality on here - until the next time.

    :cheers

When he returned from the World Cup he had a niggling injury but still played although not showing the form he had displayed prior to the WC. Didn't think it was anything serious so strange if true although he played for Australia v Argentina only 2 weeks ago with no mention of an injury.

Anyway, have a good season and hope you get the promotion you are looking for.

    Thanks for your thoughts folks.

There's no way we could afford anything like a million TBH and we're no longer in the business of spending money we ain't got so if that's what's demanded, we'll walk.

What we do offer that has recently brought players to the club is ambition, good facilities and ground, an attractive playing style, large fanbase and excellent away following, good management etc - all good for the players who seem to love playing for us but all that is for the player and won't cut any ice with the Buds.

I don't believe we're tyre-kickers though. I reckon we'll try to offer a fair deal and if that means sell-on fees or performance-related payments so be it but the cash will be what we can afford and if it ain't enough we'll shake hands and walk away.

Whatever happens, all the best for next season.

We recently sold Ethan Erhahon to Lincoln City (who you play first game of the season) for allegedly £350k plus add-ons. I am not making a direct comparison here however Baccus is now a first pick for the Aussie national team and at only 25 is at his peak and has several good years in front of him. Unfortunately we have a habit of selling good talent for peanuts so maybe you'll get him in a cut price deal. I'd be gutted though at such a low price but I am now used to it. Best of luck in the season ahead but hopefully for us, without Baccus.

And I am probably being jealous here but the money being spent on players in England is crazy, however they seem to want players playing in Scotland for next to nothing. We had Thiery Small on loan from Southampton for a few months last season and at 18 you can see the guy has talent but he was sent off twice in his short time with us and made mistakes all over the place yet Southampton allegedly paid £3m for him. Yet we'll accept maybe £400k for a full internationalist in his prime. Frustrating.

  10. Not in the least worried. We have been actively chasing some players but missed out on a couple of targets. Reckon we already have a couple ready to sign but with the manager being on holiday no announcements as yet. We need players better than we already have - no point in signing players just for the sake of it. Not in the least worried about who Killie, Dundee and Ross County are signing as we aspire to be back in the top 6 this season. Whether that happens remains to be seen but that is the standard we should be aiming for.

  11. We should remember that a lot of youngsters from the recent past were playing when we were in the Championship. It's easier to get picked and look half decent against Arbroath than it is against Aberdeen. It is a big step up to play as a youngster in the Premiership. Reid will be an excellent player in the future but he wasn't going to get picked ahead of Baccus, O'Hara and Gogic two of whom are full internationalists.

  12. Well I am very disappointed Joe has gone as he was the best defender we had. Gallagher is 2 years older but I do not see any mention of him being past his best. Joe is rarely injured (unlike Gallagher) and poses a threat at set pieces as well as having the longest throw in by anyone in the squad. He is a model pro who doesn't throw toys out the pram and I would happily have let Fraser, Dunne or Gallagher go before Joe. Is he replaceable? Of course he is but still the best of what we had. Gallagher is very good when he is fit and not suspended but Joe provided the best bang for your buck.
