Celtic and Hearts B Teams in Lowland League?
LongTimeLurker replied to falski's topic in Lowland League
Vaguely remember reading on here what I thought was a clumsily worded rule drafting on who can get relegated into the WoS. Would serve Edufrance right if that means they have to go back to the SoS in future, given that's where they started out, rather than getting an unearned entry into the WoS premier. -

A CCS vs Hearts friendly did cross my mind as well as what could have prompted a previously No voting Embra club to embrace the dark side. -

Think you nailed it earlier with the League Cup invite angle. They maybe also were hoping their bronze licence was the way back into the national divisions again through the Conference proposal last year so think they might gain something by siding with the SFA board on this? -

Bear in mind 7 voted the right way. A few more seasons of relegation and/or EK moving upwards should sort this out along with the relegation issue. -

Disappointed more than surprised. -

If the three ex-junior and four ex-SPFL clubs were all NO as appears to be the case from public statements then CSS and Caledonian Braves should have been enough to defeat it, so surprising this went the wrong way. -

Clydebank 2023/2024
LongTimeLurker replied to judge macbrayne's topic in West of Scotland Football League
You could have been in the SPFL by now if you had been willing to play outside Clydebank for a few seasons. If BSC Glasgow could groundshare with Maryhill presumaby you could have instead of them. I made no statement as to whether the only within the confines of the Burgh posture was sensible or not. Just pointed out that you didn't bolt to the senior grade at the first opportunity so the criticism from some Ayrshire posters seemed a bit strange to me. -

Think Edinburgh Uni have been good guys on this issue in the past. -

Clydebank 2023/2024

They could have done something on being a senior club again as far back as a decade ago by joining the Lowland League by application. They were more tied into the SJFA than some people on here appear to realise. -

A bit like Berwick Rangers earlier this season, Edinburgh City are in a financial crisis and need to offload players. There has been talk that they could go into administration but I don't think that's happened yet.

Edinburgh City
LongTimeLurker replied to the philosopher's topic in Scottish League 1 General Chatter
All it takes is Seref Zengin deciding that trying to stay fulltime in League One wasn't such a good move after all and exiting stage right with control being hastily handed over to a fan group and half way through the following season... On the sweepstakes of who is most likely to try and buy Edinburgh City's league place I'll go for East Kilbride. Hopefully it won't come to that though and there's a way to exit administration with Edinburgh City fans running things again. -
As an outsider looking in I vaguely remember reading a post claiming that he was paying some players wages at Elgin because he is quite well off through owning a hotel business in Aberfeldy. Reminded me of rumours of what was happening with Max Christie and going further back Allan McGonigal at Bo'ness United. Not necessarily a bad approach if the manager in question is competent and a couple of players funded that way can make a big difference.

Ground improvement/works thread
LongTimeLurker replied to GNU_Linux's topic in West of Scotland Football League
If the key is security of tenure then the lease from the council is likely enough if lawyers have now determined that there's no danger of the "gentlemen of Beith" who formed the trust raising any objections. If the legal advice was that the trust has been long since wound up because said gentlemen are all dead then hopefilly that's a red herring at this point and it's no different from any other club with a ground leased from the local council doing licensing. -
So much so that they might even know how to spell they're. It's daft to have two different Bo'ness clubs playing at Newtown Park. The sooner there is only one again under the name United the more likely conversations on here are to shift over to the topic of promotion to the SPFL and meeting bronze level licence requirements to be able to sustain that status long term.

...but then there's Pollok and Clydebank who have bigger supports than most L2 clubs and even some in L1.

The remaining junior outposts are in the pyramid now, so what are they supposed to see sense about?
