Times have obviously moved on, when we were reliving our youth last week at Simple Minds virtually no one even bothered with the pretence of wearing a mask to get through the door. Given the average age I'd guess we were all in the high risk category of being old duffers, such reckless behaviours.

I've not read the whole thread so can't comment on who said what or when but surely the ability to change your position and point of view as a situation develops is a positive. Sadly our politicians have been stuck in March 2020 mode since March 2020. They have been like a football manager who resolutely refuses to use any of their subs unless its to waste time in injury time. My main gripes in no particular order were 1. Rules banning travel within Scotland. You could only be in one place at a time, did it really matter where that one place was? 2. Closing whole sectors of the economy with no real evidence as to why those and not others. Shutting sport facilites while keeping fast food outlets open during a pandemic when being overweight was a known risk factor still makes no sense. 3. The whole fear and worry agenda being pushed in your face every day. 4. The lack of willingness by politicians to put out the message that people die, always have and always will. Keeping a few alive from death by Covid will have led to death by other means for many, many more. 5. Still waiting on the First Minister to give is one of the promised adult conversations. Being told what you can and can't do and don't dare ask any questions doesn't seem very adult.

I was thinking the same but given how many of her supporters seem to be in favour of ongoing "protections" will she really see removing them as good news? Alternatively I take her not wearing a mask today as being a sign of doing away with the requirement tomorrow, even someone with the thickest of skin could not fail to grasp the inconsistency.

Or get her Deputy to deliver the announcement today as planned?

We've just been at St Andrews for the weekend and agreed not to wear masks but had them with us in the event that staff anywhere asked us to put them on. Never got asked once and despite being on alert for it never really picked any vibes of any dissenting voices. In the Brewing Company on Friday and again last night and I'd say it was 50/50. In the shops and around town in general I'd guess it was closer to 80/20 wearing them. I have no gripes if someone wants to wear a mask for their own reassurance but as someone said on here recently you can blow up a ballon wearing a blue mask.

"Can you put the kettle on when you're there" Yes darling, do you want tea or coffee "I don't want anything just now but might have something in ten minutes" Apparently I am miserable for suggesting that the time to boil the kettle should coincide with when you want a hot drink.

I wonder if she feels the same levels of fear and disgust when going shopping or to the cinema or meeting friends? Whilst I've had my moments during the past two years mainly around ridiculous restictions I have managed to remain relatively nonplussed about the virus and whatever risks it may or may not have posed me. However many Governments including our own have spent two years focusing on deaths and ventilators and not upending the NHS and I can see how for some people it will be difficult to move on from that state of mind. Having spent all that time and money creating such a environment of fear is in not incumbent on them to now overtly play down the virus and promote how little risk it actually poses and reassure people like the woman in the article that they actually have no more to worry about than crossing the road.

The process of collecting data is either fatally flawed and in need of complete overhaul as part of the NHS becoming fit for purpose or the figures are repeatedly manipulated to suit an agenda.

Dreading the day they ask for the laptop back and say its back to the office full time. Half and half would be fine but full time listening to Real Radio and Celebrity Dancing on the Jungle Ice chat might be a bridge too far.

Why take responsibility for yourself when the government can do it for you?

If the Scottish Government genuinely believes that we need more restrictions for longer than the rest of the UK they should just say that and give their rationale without making any reference to anywhere else.

"People need to know what they need to do" I thought that was part and parcel of being an adult? What's next.... Stay at home orders when it's sunny in case anyone gets sunburnt?

Can't see that happening up here anytime soon as it would encourage people to take responsibility for their own outcomes and that is clearly not on the agenda. Re the comments about older people and covid there really is a need to move on from the narrative of March 2020, both of my parents who are late 70's with MS and recent cancer treatment have had it in the past month and other than a cough were neither up or down with it. Don't know who is going to do it up here but the whole narrative around the risks and dangers of 2022 Covid against the 2020 version really needs ramped up ahead of pulling all restrictions. If people with no medically diagnised risk factors choose to refuse to follow the current science that and any incidental costs they incur should be on them and not anyone else.

After Blackford's comments this morning I wouldn't be so sure of restrictions being lifted. Still going on about the dangers of ending free testing and self isolation, surely if they think such measures are necessary they can fund them themselves?

We're both triple vaccinated and I still managed to test positive about 3 weeks ago. We were due to go to New York the following week and had started doing LFT's as we had to get a negative preflight test. Before the end of the week our three surviving parents, all with health issues and age against them had it. The most common symptom was heavy legs and a cough but I've been to work feeling a lot worse and thankfully everyone is back to normal. On the basis of this extensive study I would suggest Omicron is highly infectious and not too serious. If only some experts from South Africa had predicted this outcome a few months ago we'd have been saved from another winter of discontent. My only other comment would relate to how quickly I got settled into being quarantined in the house and whilst I'm back out and about I can see why some people could easily get into a position of feeling "safe" at home and being quite happy for restrictions to continue.
