  1. You are correct, there was no need for us to move!
Is that what you want for DFC?
From outside the story looks sadly familiar.Blame the bad old council.

I did however see it quoted that the majority of councillors who voted against the development were from Clydebank....my experience of Bankie councillors is they are not the slightest bit interested in anything that happens in Dumbarton

  2. What you don't see is that Mango had his hand on the defender's shoulder as he's about to go for the ball.

I don't think the contact was enough from Mango to give the free kick against him, but it certainly looked like he was trying to exert a bit of force on the defender to get the ball ahead of him.

There was a close up replay that shows Mango on the defender's shoulder. Ref may well have given it for Mango trying to climb/prevent the defender from challenging.

Certainly not the worst decision Dallas made on Saturday

Interestingly there's not a lot of shouts for a penalty from our players...then again perhaps because Barr is constantly being penalised in the box?

We're on another poor run of form and results now, and without changes, it's hard to be too optimistic.  It's galling that we've got Dobbie, but probably won't even get a crack at the play-offs (the promotion ones, that is)  while he's on board.

is it the case that you're spending a large proportion of your budget on Dobbie, which is affecting the manager's options in bringing other players in?

Not owning the new ground is a big concern as far as I am concerned. If the club has an asset like that it always gives the potential for borrowing in the future should that become necessary. If we are left with no heritable assets we are ruling out any borrowing as we would have no assets to secure against it. There is also the concern that the landlords attitude could change or indeed the landlord could change in the future. Going from a position of having assets with a paper value of 1.5m to having none is a huge leap imo

it seemed from last night, that a decision has still be made on this, but will depend on which is the most financially advantageous to the club. There is a concern that if the club own the ground, they would then be liable for tax on it, so the £1 peppercorn rent is a work around

it was also interesting to hear that some of the existing / former directors had also provided soft loans to keep the club solvent - that is worrying, and perhaps indicates one of the reasons they are keen to explore new revenue raising ideas

  5. Very interesting meeting tonight I thought

New guy from brabco much more open than Iain Wilson

Business plan for new ground depends on them selling rest of new site for housing...they reckon though that west dunbartonshire council will refuse application, but seem confident it will be approved on appeal

Whole case seems much better now I thought...costings more advanced and scheme actually seems viable

I thought the fans tone was also changing and seems more positive towards the proposals

General consensus also seems to be we need to spend around £250k to fix the current ground with the wall below the castle being a major problem. Didn't appear to be a plan where this money would come from

My feeling is that an increasing number of supporters are going to say thanks but not thanks to this.

Tune back in when we drop a level, drop prices and stop being perennial underdog.

you may be right...but in that case we would be as well chucking it....a football team should be trying to win every single match....we cannot get relegated then try to avoid promotion in case its too expensive

yes football is expensive...but have you looked at the costs of the alternatives recently? I went to the cinema the other night...1 1/2 hours entertainment...ticket was something like £11...then add in the drinks and popcorn....

  7.
I'm honestly embarrassed by that. Fair enough there could've been an issue with the hot water yesterday but surely to god we're at least firing out a plate of sandwiches or something?
OKI makes extremely good points in his post, 589 attending yesterday tells you everything about the apathy towards the club at the moment. Extremely sad.

To be fair...our home crowds have routinely been between 500 and 600 ever since we've been in the championship....yesterday's attendance was only low because there were next to no away fans
  8. Gallacher had a rather mixed reputation when he came to Alloa but he was excellent in his half season with us. Particularly enjoyable performances in draws with Rangers at the Recs and Ibrox. But - that was under Jack Ross and he certainly has a way of getting the best out of players.
On that very topic, where was Fleming at his best for the Sons? Underwhelming so far. Was he decent up front?

Probably best in the number 10 role...strong runner with the ball, and the kind if guy who gives 110%

He struggled last season with his fitness, and as a result we didn't see the best of him, and when he did play, I felt he was trying too hard

Persist with him, and hopefully you'll see what he has to offer
  9. He's slow to come out, doesn't command his box, he came for one in the first half when he shouldn't, was lucky to get away with it, before that, dowie gave him pelters for not coming for the ball, and the other when he mis controlled the ball into a nomads path, won it, but injured their number 9, just a few instances

I'm not his biggest fan, but still feel giving him a 5 yesterday is a little harsh...keepers always have to juggle coming for a ball or staying on their line...fine margins

I remember the one where their centre forward got "injured"....was that not down to a poorly hit backpass?
  10. Yesterdays ratings (my opinion)
    gallacher 5 (confidence shot)
    wardrop 8 (drove us forward)
dowie 7 (won everything but slow forward)
barr 7 ( Thrived the roughness)
hill 7 (aitken quick to drop or sub)
    mclaughlin 7 (solid)
    c Gallagher 5 ( lacking confidence also)
    hutton 6 (just)
    carswell 5 ( not fit yet )
froxylias 8 ( tidy, will be useful. Great goal)
nade 8 (not mobile but experienced)
Roy 7 ( pace they couldn't cope with)
wilson 7 ( less negative with him)
Johnson 7 (best I've seen him)

Seems a little harsh on Scott Gallagher...didn't really have much to do yesterday
  11. Fair comment Mantis but looking over the site in general I note that since May, Ayr United, who were similarly relegated and have a similar fan base, have 132 pages of posts and Edinburgh City, again since May, have 110 pages.
Why do our fans not populate the site?

Don't try and compare the number of posts with any Ayr utd thread...There are a number of utter fuds on there who clog them up with utter drivel...check out any thread involving Ayr

  12. Would be quite happy with that. I liked him during his first spell, and I reckon once he settles down he'll be a very decent player at this level.

I have to say I wasn't particularly impressed....I kept waiting on seeing a premiership class player...and other than occasional glimpses...he didn't do enough to me

Nowhere near the quality of Stirling or Vaughan or Stanton

The reduced budget thing is beyond disappointing. I suppose it's the price you pay for owners who have no interest in anything other than making some cash.

Hopefully this helps any fans currently supporting the 'project shiny' move to reconsider. If Brabco were serious about the club, they'd inject some cash.

it is the nature of Scottish football - I would imagine there will be a few other teams in the championship reducing budgets, e.g. Dunfermline (after losing Raith). Personally I would prefer that we as a club break even each season. We don't have a rich sugar daddy so we will just continue to do what we've done for the past 5 years. I do wonder though whether or not the budget reduction is significant, given that Stevie Aitken was happy to sign up to 2 year deal - perhaps it was his best option if the Raith job wasn't going his way...we'll never probably know

I don't think though that the budget reduction has any bearing on any potential stadium move. All sides seem to have acknowledged that it will only happen if its financially viable. I have no objection in principle to a move, provided the Sons Trust get the transparency and reassurances they are seeking. And by that, I would hope to see concrete proposals that the club get a share of / all the potential additional non football related income. This would actually allow us to grow the club

  14. disappointing about Buchanan, but probably to be expected when he didn't sign up in the initial batch of players

I guess its a sign of how well we did last season that our best players are moving up to bigger and full time clubs

still hoping Barr signs on - him and Ben Gordon could make quite a good pairing

  15. Looks like the 2 favorites for the Rovers Job is Danny Lennon and Darren Young.  Would hope that we still have Aitken on our radar.  Done a great job for you guys and should have been given the job last summer.
On the whole how did Vaughan get on at you guys?

I would say Vaughan did pretty well...maybe 7/10

Always tried really hard...perhaps sometimes too hard...had a habit of trying to beat one extra man and losing it sometimes

Scored some good and important goals though, and I'd be happy to have him back on loan next season
  16. Sad to see Garry go, but probably inevitable given his lack of game time this season

Given St Mirren offered him a contract previously, I would assume he was one of our top earners

He has totally been a Dumbarton legend these last few years

Slightly more surprised to see Docherty leaving

It looks to me though that Aitken is staying...i can't imagine the board would sanction new contract offers if they thought a new manager was coming in

  17. some interesting comments in that statement, ranging from the fact that we break even at the moment, to the hint of future full time football. It will be interesting to see if this is actually feasible, and how many of our players are currently in effect full time players, albeit they only train twice a week
