  1. I'm led to believe at this stage that we have made zero contact with him and appear to have no interest.

No idea where he's heading but it certainly doesn't look like it will be us. That may well change as the competitive games loom closer of course.

Conroy doesn't seem to be value for money for us. Most of the feedback from his former clubs seem to say he takes a great dead ball, but much else. That would seem to me to be a waste of a wage

  2. From what I understand, we received grants from SFA and the like, but these had been reduced so it was now starting to cost us money

I would assume we would struggle to attract the top players who would go to full time clubs who could offer better training etc

  3. Interesting to see reactions of both keepers at full time today. Brown looked like he couldn't give a f**k about the result, so I hope Aitken can find him a new club.

More worrying however was Ewings - he also disappeared up the tunnel pretty quickly. Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't sign a new contracr

  4. So looking at the fixtures, we'll probably need another point at least to ensure our safety.

Feasibly Livi could well beat Queens and Raith, meaning we need to get something from our remaining games.

Unfortunately St. Mirren are on a good run at the moment, but such if life with us being so poor, we need to target that as a game we need to win.

I believe this time can reasonably now be referred to as 'squeaky bum time'.

Given our goal difference, we don't want to end up on same points as Livi

  5. Selling tickets is an easy one - theres no need.

The majority of games are pay at the gate. Theres no need to sell tickets in advance.

As for selling replica tops etc, Dumbarton doesnt have a sports shop so I'm not sure where would sell Dumbarton merchandise?

It would be costly for the club to take on an outlet itself and I'm not sure there are any businesses in Dumbarton that would make an obvious retail partner. Its arguable that you could do some kind of deal where soft play centres or similar businesses could sell discounted family tickets, or even offer discounted tickets for every child who is registered with a football team in West Dunbartonshire. Then theres the possibility of offering family tickets through West Dunbartonshire Council gym membership. Or going on a major charm offensive with the local council and the whisky bottling plant as the area's major employers.

But ultimately thats a big risk if the only people who would take up such offers would be fans who would go to games anyway. I remember the Clan running a discount ticket offer in the first year or two of playing. Vouchers ended up being taken and used by existing fans rather than new fans so it didnt give the club any increased gates.[/quau

We actually do have a sports shop now....sports division

That said, I don't think trying to sell merchandise in the high Street is really a goer

I would like to see a better shop set up in the stadium....surely we could do a better job maybe cordoning off a small area and maybe having tops, scarf's etc actually out on show.... I'm sure we would sell more if it was properly visible

  6. I've been thinking we could get Aggy back as well, and I'd be pretty chuffed with that. We've missed him spraying passes about.

He's only on a 1yr deal at St Mirn I think, and I'd be surprised if they kept him judging by what Saints fans have said about him. I think he also loved his time at the Rock, and will have worked with Stevie when he was a coach at Stranraer...If that means anything.

Anyway, I've watched the contentious moments back from last night again. And Dallas still got them wrong. I think even the Gaelic guy on comms was puzzled by the first offside goal.

I wouldn't have him back to be honest. Extremely one footed.....once opposition work that out he is ineffective when shooting. Always stands off, doesn't tackle, and in my opinion is living off the memory of some cracking free kicks a long time ago in the minds of some Sons fans.

Having seen him against us, at no point did I think we needed him back

  7. Thanks for that.. so we are not any better (really) than last season. If the rumours are to be believed about the biggest budget in years all we have realistically achieved is lowering our goals for and against tally. Big couple of weeks coming up.

The standard of opposition also needs to be taken into consideration. Yes...hearts are gone but for me the quality of the teams are generally higher.

Rangers now have an actual football manager

Hibs are a good strong team

    Falkirk improved on last season

QoTS probably good but weaker than last year

Raith probably same as last year

    Morton strong and improving

St mirren not great but also improving

Alloa not great and probably similar to last year

Livingston probably same as last year

  8. If we're going to give Kirkpatrick a start, please don't play him as a lone striker. It didn't work away to Falkirk and it didn't work yesterday. I'd much rather see him play as an attacking central midfielder. I'd certainly rather see him start than Gallagher.

While lots of people are writing off McCallum, one thing he does is press defenders into making mistakes. He's not going to win the ball in the air, so don't lump it in to him. I thought he had a good game when he started against St Mirren last time.

Kler Heh's had 5 minutes against Livingston, 20 minutes against Morton, and 10 minutes yesterday. I've no idea if he can cut it at this level, but he barely got a touch of the ball yesterday. In his 20 minutes at Cappielow he had one of our very few serious efforts on goal, with a shot that was cleared off the line. He seemed livelier than Cawley had been in the preceding 70 minutes. It seems a bit of a waste to drag him up all the way from Sheffield, only to then give him no serious game time.

I also don't see what Jamie Ewings has done to deserve being dropped yesterday. Fair enough if he had been at fault for the loss of either goal at Cappielow, but he's been very reliable in the four games he's played. We were fortunate that the referee chalked off Agnew's goal direct from the corner. I wasn't sure at the time whether there was any infringement, but seeing it again I think Brown made an utter hash of it.

None of us know if Heh has what it takes.... I can only assume that Aitken perhaps not overly impressed with what he see's in training.....or that he sees him and McCallum as too lightweight together

  9. From a footballing point of view I firmly believe we can get better for our money than Gibson.

I just hope it's a footballing decision and not been forced upon both parties due to his sons health.

I have a feeling it may be due to his sons health. Read somewhere he needed a ventilator to breathe, so can't imagine training and playing football are all that high on his priorities just now

    Wish him all the best

  10. I would imagine the attendances will also be affected by who else is in the league so not as simple as saying we've lost bucket loads of fans

For example in the lower leagues when we've played Peterhead or Elgin on a wet winter mid week that will dramatically affect crowds. Likewise this season we've had a bunch of teams who bring good away supports such as Morton, Falkirk, Hibs and rangers

  11. He wouldn't be worth a big wage either imo, Accies said he hasn't looked fit at all for them and he was pretty poor for us last season with his fitness issues.

Maybe somebody like the Pars - and their big budget squad - will sign him up.

I don't think I'd go for him either

great player when he's fit, but spends a lot of time in the treatment room

  12. You were having a go at some suggestions put forward and previous events that have been arranged, all of these events are arranged by the Trust i.e. volunteers. None of them are paid for the work they do. I'm not sure who we employ commercially? I thought Alan Findlay was the commercial director and as far as I'm aware volunteers all his time. We employ a CEO, if you ire is directed at him then fair enough.

We were discussing fund raising ideas and you suggested free tickets to kids, I was merely asking what revenue that brings into the club. I agree with the comments from Frank above about us not being the most officially welcoming but I waded into this debate because the fund raising ideas were being shot down and the folk who are being mentioned above are not the same people trying to put fund raisers together.

I too would like to see local kids getting free tickets - I remember getting one as a child. I didn't come much then, but when I moved back to the area, it gave me an affiliation and it was the only club team I was interested in watching

will it bring in increased revenue in the short term? probably not much, but they will spend money on pies etc

    Plus sides though?

    • they might come back and will buy a ticket next time
    • they might pester their mum or dad or pals to go with them
    • they might improve the atmosphere at home games

these types of initiatives do have to be seen as longer term, but can they do any harm?

  13. I stand corrected, it was clear Stevie never rated him though

dont agree with that...it was clear to every one that his legs were going...whether that was due to injury, age or minimal pre season I dont know, but he did cause us to lose the goals in the Hibs and St Mirren games, and despite him playing really well, a manager surely has to look at why we concede goals

None of us know what he was promised when he signed on regarding captaincy etc, but if the manager thinks he can bring in better quality or someone who wont cause silly goals to be conceded, then thats his job
