Queen of the South v The Caley
palmy_cammy replied to TheScarf's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
All the more reason to do everything possible to accommodate him. He couldn’t do the isolated lone striker role in his 20s so he sure as hell isn’t going to when he’s pushing 40. “He’s getting on a bit what are we meant to do?” is exactly the pathetic loser mentality I’d expect from Johnston though. An ageing Dobbie is still a huge asset and comfortably still our best player. -

I’d be interested in a comparison of goals scored by Dobbie under Naysmith and goals scored by him under Johnston. It’s a long list of failings, but one of his biggest has to be his complete inability to get the most out of the greatest player to have played for the club. -
Queens v Alloa

I can't say I had considered this match particularly pivotal in the manager's future. Saturday will be a year since we were papped out of the Scottish Cup by Queens Park. You could probably have made a case for sacking him every single subsequent week that has passed, and the case has only got stronger as the weeks have gone by, but it doesn't feel any closer to happening. I think we could lose 5-0 on Saturday and Johnston would remain in charge. -

Looks a good find. Confident on the ball and a threat going forward. Hard to judge him defensively as we've been been pretty poor at the back though. Hasn't looked dodgy defensively but can't say he's been solid. He lost his marker for a goal at Ayr. It was his man for the late St Mirren leveller as well IIRC. -

Absolutely made up for him, another incredible performance. Oh for Queens to have even a tiny percent of the grit and determination on show last night. -

If When we make an arse of it against Queens Park tonight, I would fully expect opposition fans to jump into our threads for a bit of a laugh at our expense. That would be completely in the spirit of P&B and football fan culture generally. It's completely different to repeatedly posting "Queens r shit lol" over multiple threads with no context behind it. It would be equally annoying if they were posting "Queens are the greatest team to ever play the game" on every thread. We're not a bunch of softies offended by the insults, it's the tedious, repetitive trolling that's the issue. -
There are other considerations if he makes the changes suggested by die hard doonhamer as well. Nortey was signed to play right back, so if he plays him in midfield it only adds to the suggestion that he is a square peg in a round hole, which makes him look daft. Also Goss wasn't his signing so he has no real incentive to develop him, particularly as he won't be around to really reap the rewards should he turn out to be a player. I think it's more likely we will play what Johnston considers to be his strongest XI to try and get the monkey off our back. Understandable really.

Like when Johnston replaced MacPherson... Yeah a bit like that. In the same way McLeish was a good Scotland manager first time round as well, to carry on that example. It doesn't hold much relevance to the present day though. -

Scotland were a disorganised and disinterested rabble under Alex McLeish. Under Steve Clark they are now a well drilled unit, playing for each other, in a system that gets the best out of them, and where each player knows what their job is. The players are still mostly mediocre, but it shows the importance of good management and coaching. Or you could draw on the literally thousands of other examples where replacing a shit manager with a good one has brought an upturn in fortunes. -

There really isn’t a single argument that can be made for keeping him. The only possible reason is that we simply can’t afford the outlay of paying him off and hiring someone else. But if finances really are so tight that makes it even more galling that a large chunk of our income is going into the pockets of Johnston and Clark. One a complete dud, the other a complete arsehole. My interest in the club dwindles with every day they remain in charge. -
Arbroath v Queens
palmy_cammy replied to Northfield 53's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
Arbroath bettering their famous 36-0 result genuinely doesn’t seem like as ridiculous a possibility as it should. Certainly the chances of it happening are as likely as a Queens clean-sheet. I’ll predict a 3-1 win for the home side with a “perfect hattrick” of goals scored from a corner, a freekick, and a penalty. Dobbie will score our customary penalty. -
Dunfermline v Queens
palmy_cammy replied to Northfield 53's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
Buchanan is more interested in trying to get involved in a wrestling match than attack the ball, and our goalkeeper is more interested in hiding behind people than attacking the ball. Shitebags the lot of them. -

I didn’t watch yesterday but against Raith Rovers our midfield was absolutely non existent and our “full-backs” were all over the place. So whilst Ayo and Buchanan didn’t cover themselves in glory, in their defence they were having to try and deal with 4 or 5 opposition attackers by themselves. This sort of generosity will lead to more shots on goal from the opposition. Ayo and Buchanan look to be a worse pairing than the Brownlie/Kilday partnership we started last season with, and unfortunately anyone was likely to be worse than McCrorie, although so far Ferguson doesn’t look to be Stewart levels of shit so there is a bit of hope there. A repeating theme over both Johnston seasons though has been his inability to sort the midfield. We haven’t really replaced Jacobs, and even he wasn’t that great a player. We at least have some natural width this year but until the middle of the park tighten up we are always going to be up against it. -

He is a serial failure at any level above League 1. Which we knew when we hired him and gave him a 2 year contract. We were too slow in sacking Naysmith which meant Johnston basically had the club over a barrel when he answered their SOS call. The position we find ourselves in all all stems back to then. -
Dunfermline v Queens

He’ll probably get the Arbroath and Alloa games to try and salvage things. You’d think his position would be untenable by then. The worrying things is the board have clearly been grooming Gibson to step into his shoes but due to Johnston’s bizarre transfer business Gibson appears to be integral to the starting XI. -

Dom Thomas up against Gibson, what could go wrong? Looks like we’re setup to try and shitfest it. This cunning plan falls apart when you realise we seem to concede at least 2 goals every match. We’ll throw some attacking players on when the game is already gone and Johnston will make some generic comments about not being able to fault the players’ effort but individual errors are killing us. -

Absolutely reckless management to have ended up with a defence consisting of 2 CBs, an 18 year old left back, a RB who by his own admission prefers to play in midfield, and Wullie Gibson. With no real midfield enforcers on the books either I fully expect scorelines like last week to be a regular occurrence. You might as well relegate us now. -
I’m actually surprised more isn’t being said about Buchanan’s wild swipe that crocked the Raith player. If that had happened to one of our players I’d be calling him all the names under the sun. It was absolutely reckless. I suppose they are going easy on him as he was one of their best players yesterday!
-
The early part of the game you missed is the part where Raith looked like scoring every time they entered our half. Gibson and Nortey looked exactly like what they are which is square pegs in round holes. Buchanan was an immobile rabbit in headlights, and Ayo was all over the place except for being where he should be. It was as shambolic a half of football as you will see from a team. They played exactly like how you’d expect a team with no manager to play, just an absolute rabble. But I’m not sure if that excuse stands up to much scrutiny, yes the management team were absent, and yes both temporary managers were on the park, but they had all week to pick the team and formulate a plan. The way that first half went it was as if the team had never met before.

We’re still on the same run despite replacing all the players. It’s almost as if they aren’t the problem. -

Nothing to worry about then as we are notorious for turning up for important games, and always do well against so called "lesser teams", particularly the part timers.
