  1. Can’t understand why the article says he turned down an offer from Brechin. Unless Brechin are being really ambitious why would they have made him an offer? Maybe the Record mean he turned down an offer from Morton?

He was released from a side who finished seventh last season - hardly beyond the realms of possibility that his next step might be down a league when purely looking at those facts.
  2. Given that gauld has never played for a minute of his career at as lowly a club as Jones is at and probably earns at least three times what Jones does despite being a year younger that's clearly shite.
Which lawyer has gone further in their career?  One at a big firm earning big money, or one at a small firm earning small money.  They're PROFESSIONAL footballers, the clue is in the name.

Okay then - so Islam Feruz has had a better career so far they every single player in Scotland at his age?

Your argument is ridiculously simplistic. I was also agreeing with you, I said that Gauld was clearly far better technically.
  3. Did you say the same when that boy, who is so shite I can't even remember his name, was loaned out from Chelsea to numerous clubs across England and Europe and eventually ended up at Hibs where he still couldn't get a game?
Gauld may have a good career but to simply say he plays for a (semi) big club in a (semi) big league as any kind of justification for him is incorrect.   When he came through I'm going to guess we had never even heard of Kieran Tierney and Andy Robertson probably wasn't viewed as being as good as Gauld.
Here's a controversial statement - Jordan Jones of Kilmarnock has had a better career so far than Ryan Gauld.

ETA - In fact forget that.  I will revise that statement to Jordan Jones has more potential of having a better career than Gauld, in my opinion.

I think it’s clear that Gauld has more technical ability than Jones who is an excellent athlete.

Career wise so far I wouldn’t necessarily disagree though - potential wise you just never know.
  4. Just crossed my mind regarding McCrorie. Shouldn’t he be doing a pre season with the club he’s going to be playing with? Get to know his defence and work with them. Instead he’ll probably come in just before the Betfred Cup games.

I’m quite happy with him being away learning from the likes of McGregor (if he is actually coming to us)

Plenty of time for that before the league starts.
  5. F  me. £ 7m for Armstrong.  A good player ( despite single-handedly blowing that lead against England ) but at that price Celtic will be pinching themselves. And you guys will now be able to hold out for £3-4mfor McGinn - who is undoubtedly a better player.

In what world is John McGinn undoubtedly a better player than Armstrong.
  6. I enjoyed our promotion from the 3rd tier of Scottish Football, don't really feel its worth a Civic Reception.  Promotion to the top tier would be a different proposition.

Why should the Council bend over backwards to help a Private Limited Company.  Have to add that if the Application to re-develop Somerset Park was sensible enough, it would be treated on its merits accordingly.

I don’t feel the need for a civic reception, however something as simple as a tweet of celebration would be helpful.

I think it’s surely pretty obvious why a local council should help out their local football team.

  7. Just looked at the squad our average age is just under 23 and we only have Moffat, Bell, Geggan, Adams, Higgans and Kerr 30 or over does that concern any one that we lack a bit of experience (that figure includes the players moved up from the youth squad and the potential signings of Ferguson, McRorie and Harvie)

Not really - we have a very good mix of experience throughout the spine of the side. Ideally I would say an experienced keeper would be better, however I don’t think there are many about.
  8. I actually thought Balatoni was decent. Stood out in a poor back line. Anybody who says he was poor is talking shit as we would’ve been gutted if the club had accepted the bid from the South African club in the January window.
Admittedly he wasn’t quite as good from January on but to be fair nobody was and I think his morale was at rock bottom, can remember him getting involved with some of the moaners on the north terrace.
I’d happily have welcomed him back this year.

I completely agree with this. He also played in a team which had no out-ball whatsoever as we had nothing up front. Nicky Devlin was our only threat going forward so was out of position at times (no fault of Devlin’s) He quite clearly played injured for a large part of the second half of the season.

Anyway it doesn’t really matter - I’m assuming he is looking to life after football and got a decent offer from Edinburgh city - he’ll be a stand out at that level.

  9. I don't know anything about Harvie but if Marshall is better defensively it doesn't say much about him (Harvie). Marshall wasn't the greatest defensively. His positioning at times was borderline woeful. He'd never back out of a tackle though.

He has great energy and gets up and down but his final ball is very similar to his positioning: woeful.

He was highly thought of by the majority of our support but for me he's the most over-rated player we've had in years. I think he was 'decent' at best, far from spectacular. His biggest asset was his consistency. I think the fact he hasn't been snapped up quickly speaks volumes and the only club he's been linked with is one that would result in a side-step move.

(Watch St Johnstone or Dundee sign him now)

The guy you quoted doesn’t have a clue and I would be amazed if he had ever seen Marshall. He is most likely basing his opinion on Harvie on seeing him play against us once when he was seventeen.

  10. Loy would score more than Shankland. He’s a far better player. It wasn’t that long ago that Loy was banging in 20+ goals a season in the championship.

I can’t see him signing for us though. Mainly due to the money thing. It didn’t quite work out for him at Falkirk last season though( the worst full time side in the championship). If he wants to remain full time, we’re probably the only side to have offered him a deal.

Cardle is the only one I can see us signing though.

Is Willo Flood going into coaching as well actually?
We have lost 2 coaches in the last couple of weeks so would make sense if we were looking at giving 2 players their first steps into coaching here. Cardle and Flood would probably meet that criteria.

If Rory Loy was still a far better player than Shankland, he would be getting better offers than Raith - like Shankland did.
  11. No panic, but playing devils advocate, I’d point out
    - Docherty and Higgins are unlikely to be match fit for the start of the season.
    - Rose and Higgins were consistently dreadful as a partnership (either might work with a more dominant centre back)
    - Adams largely struggled last time round at championship level.  That said, Adams had his strongest season for us last year so might do better.
    - Kerr was released by Falkirk because they didn’t think he had the legs for this level anymore.
To me, we do need a GK, a left back, centre back and probably a centre midfielder.  McDaid going would increase that shopping list.  In fairness, I don’t know where McCall is planning to play Bell this season which might affect who he wants.

To be fair, Falkirk also released Lee Miller.
