  1. Does pay as you play even exist at our level? You can see it happening at a higher level when players are earning thousands per week or at a part time level where a player has his other job's income to fall back on.

If the club want to be nice then offering him training facilities or if he is retiring letting him get involved in coaching would be a decent thing to do but other than that I don't think we should be waiting around for another season on the off chance a guy who has played about 2 seasons worth of football in 7 or 8 years finally gets fit.

  2. Archie in his PTTV interview has said that's all the players who are going to be offered deals been offered them and he reckons they should all be fairly quick and getting back with a yes or a no so I guess we'll get more signing (or not signing) news in the next week. Edit - beaten to it bt R&Y

Going by Slacker's post above we are in pretty decent shape before any of the out of contract players even agree deals. I expect some of them will sign up too meaning the club probably only need to make a handful of signings this summer. We have cover for most positions

GK - Scully, Waters (I'm assuming he's signed up) - needs improvement

    RB - Elliott - need a RB

CB - Seaborne, Frans, Lindsay - need cover

LB - Booth, possibly Seaborne or Bannigan providing he's not up against Ainsworth

CM - Osman, Fraser, Bannigan Stevenson

AM - Stevenson, McDaid, Elliott - need wide players

ST- Doolan, Stevenson - need 1 more striker

  3. Does this mean we are going to lose on Saturday or the first game of 2015/16? Unsure how the jinx works with regards to the following season.

Best just to lose both to be on the safe side.

I think it might've been mentioned in here that there was a player interview (possibly Lawless) mentioning that we felt we should be a top 6 side before the Kilmarnock game so that's the reason for that loss.

  4. From WAT I'm surprised at the OK reaction from JHS season ticket holders. Night and day from the NS reaction last season where many, myself included, were rightly pissed off. If they're fine with it then I'm fine with it. For purely selfish reasons I'll be happy to get back to around the usual area I stand at in the North Stand.

This really is the type of thing the club should be consulting with fans with before making such a decision though. Last summer should've confirmed that but it would really appear Beattie doesn't give a f**k what the fans want or think in reality and any talk about fan engagement and fan experience are nonsense. If he was as committed to it as he likes to make out by having articles in the Sun showing what a great chairman he is then he would've continued regular meetings with supporters like appeared to be promised last year.

  5. "I have spoken to James McFadden about it and he had the chance to join Kilmarnock, but didn't because his knees wouldn't hold up.

If ever there was an argument in favour of plastic pitches.

I'm not fussed if Higginbotham stays or goes. If he's on a big wage I'd probably rather he went and let Archie use it on someone else.

  6. Not sure how great save % is as an indicator of how good a goalkeeper is compared to others in the league.

Of late I'd say Fox has made plenty of straight forward saves due to the defence being excellent, there's other goalkeepers with better defence like Gordon who will face even fewer clear cut chances which require good saves and then you'll have much worse defences where the goalkeeper is having to make 4 or 5 saves a game to keep the score respectable. There's a few of Fox's clean sheets recently that Bryn Halliwell would've managed due to the defence being very good.

  7. I've seen Mhairi at Firhill a few times, Chris Stephens who won Glasgow South West is a Thistle fan too.

Pre-season game at home to Rotherham, decent

Better to play a Championship team who should bring a first team up rather than play the kids of a Premier League team.

Hope the club announce if they are going away soon, if it was Spain again I'd quite fancy it but if it's somewhere shite it'd be nice to know and then I can book a proper holiday for that time of year.

  8. As long as he's not been a complete idiot and bet against his own team I couldn't really care less if he bets. I find it quite daft players can't be trusted to bet on games not involving the league they play in.

Hopefully the hearing is this season and they get the punishment out of the way so he's fine for next season if he signs a new deal.

  9. With the position he plays and the number of set pieces he takes the very least we could expect for him is to be in the top couple of players in our team for assists. Out of our attacking players only Lawless, Higginbotham and Stevenson have started over 20 league games so it's no major surprise he's up there despite being nowhere near as good as he can be. Who else realistically in our squad did people expect to be ahead of him? Arguably it's only Stevenson and at a push O'Donnell but even then he'd be slaughtered if we were getting more creativity from a full back than him.

Higgy has essentially been on a 1 year deal for this entire season since he's out of contract in the summer, it hasn't motivated him to perform anywhere near the level of the last few months of last season. I'm beginning to conclude that the average performances of this season are the real Higginbotham rather than the ones last season.

I also don't really buy Lawless' claims about 1 year deals. He wants to be available for a much bigger deal if he plays out of his skin and gets interest from elsewhere knowing that unless he has an absolute shocker he'll probably get to stay. I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign a longer deal here or elsewhere in the future if it's a good enough offer.
