Absolute nuisance of a striker who doesn't give centre backs a minutes peace. Each time I've seen him he has occupied both centre backs and was the only player of real quality (others were good but he was a step ahead). He has scored goals for kilsyth and will do so wherever he ends up.

It will be interesting to see how he gets on with another step up the way in standard, if the rumour is true to be fair. Good player nonetheless.

41 goals so far this season, second only tp Adam Forsyth as his old man keeps reminding everybody but a better player overall in my opinion. Good with the head as well which is becoming something of a rarity these days. I think he will get goals in the second division if he has a couple of decent players alongside him.

Harry Pinkerton was  capped for Sottish League ( War Time International) while playing with Falkirk FC. but not for Junior Scotland.

Alex Walls came to BU's from Fauldhouse Un. and moved to Leith Ath. So different Walls.

Thanks for info,  I seem to remember seeing a Scottish cap in a display many years ago and allegedly it was his but how it came to be with other KR memorabilia I wouldn't know. Some of it has ended up in the custody of North Lanarkshire council so may be lost in their archives  somewhere. Our player Walls, was definitely an Arthur so not the same guy.

Harry Pinkertom had been with Kilsyth the previous season and I believe giot a Scottish junior cap,  was this Arthur walls at no 4 who came to us a few years later? There does seem to be a few players in those days who played for both clubs. I suppose if they came from the Falkirk area it was fairly likely as both towns are within easy travelling distance, we certainly had a lot of players from there.

Thought just struck me - is what KRR are getting built not going to similar to Rossvale? Hope they are better at getting the council to put in proper facilities.

As far as I understand it KRR are putting up a significant part of the funding from the sale of Adamslie. They will hope to learn from other new grounds built recently and provide more than just the absolutely basic facilities, ie playing pitch and changing rooms. Some covered terracing is a must, as is a capacity for at least 1000  I would think.

Went down to the site a few days ago and nothing has changed in the past few years although latest word is that work will start in June.

Cos they both got good strikers especially the Gartcairn ex seniors

Think its got more to do with some teams having very poor defences. To score 100 goals in 30 games is an average of 3.33 per game. A few clubs in the lower leagues are conceding a lot more than that and making fairly average teams look better than they really are, Not saying Glencairn,  Gartcairn, etc are not decent sides but maybe they will be found out when they move up a league.

Our away form must be up there with best in division with only Kilsyth and darvel beating us so far .... so that could be major factor especially come sat with glens looking on

Maybe we should get together and our squad plays the home games and yours plays the away games. Win the league at a canter!

It was the Journal itself that raised the topic.  I know square posts were only banned in 1987 by FIFA.  For some strange reason, square posts were more popular in Scotland than anywhere else.

Interestingly my official SFA copy of the Laws of the Game, published 2006, does not specify the actual cross sectional shape of the posts and crossbar. It only states that they should be the same width and depth (5ins/12cm). They could  be square, circular or presumably even multi faceted, hexagon, octogonal or even auld thrupenny bit shaped.

That would make for some very interesting rebounds off the post!

To complete a hat-trick of Fauldhouse matches, we now go to 1950 and a Brown Cup semi-final held a Bathgate.  The BU's were deserved winners by 4-1 through doubles from Willie Gardiner & Robert Balderston.

The main talking point was the goal-posts, however! No fewer than six shots by the BU's came back off the square posts, generating talk of replacing with the rounded variety we know today.

The team was:  Graham, Mitchell, Tennant, Hogg, Thomson, McKie, Morrison, Dick, Gardiner, Sproull, Balderston

i doubt that anything other than square section goalposts and crossbar existed in that era and the idea that anything else would supersede them was most unlikely. I have photos showing the old wooden square posts still at Hampden well into the 1960's and they probably still exist at a few of the old grounds to this day. Last junior ground I remember seeing them was Showpark at East Kilbride not more than 6 or 7 years ago.

Some big crowds in those days, would be struggling to get a gate half that size in the Junior Cup Final today.

Looking forward to the coming weeks Jambo when the latter rounds of the Cups were played. Will be interesting to hear of the crowds attending,  especially from this era.

These sort of crowds were the norm in the immediate post war years. Five figure crowds even for fairly minor cup finals which were always played a senior grounds. Have a look at The Irvine Meadow website and you will see details of the Scottish cup run in which they played before 220,000 spectators, admittedly with multiple replays, but still a truly amazing total.

Scott left for Rangers in the middle of the season having scored 23 goals in 26 games.  Harrower played the full season, had 45 appearances scoring 38 goals.  He played all along the front line so wasn't exclusively the centre.

I seem to remember Bo'ness were having a very good Scottish cup run that year but lost to Ashfield in the 6th round which was played in mid March and presumably he left for Rangers immediately after that game. Also I believe he scored a hat trick against  Falkirk on his debut.  He did play against Kilsyth a couple of years later in a friendly game at Duncansfield which we won 2-1 with both our goals scored by Tommy Douglas, the Benburb legend, who had a season with us. Glasgow Rangers had a pretty strong team out that day including Scott, Don Kitchenbrand, goalkeeper Bobby Brown and some others with first team experience.

Having checked, he began the 53/4 season at Sauchie Thistle, then in May of 1954 played a couple of trial games and was snapped up.  In 7 games at the end of that season he scored 6 goals and won two cup finals.  Not a bad start!

Didn't realise he had gome back to juveniles but I presume he would have been scoring a barrowload of goals at that level.

Maybe if he had stayed at Kilsyth he would have got 5 cup medals as that was our haul in 53-54 season. But we has signed an ex-Bo'ness centre forward to replace him from Forth Rangers, Alex Querrie, and he got 60 in that season.

Did Jimmy stay with you till end of 54-55 season and what was his goals total? He would presumably been playing alongside Alex Scott and I would imagine that combination would have got a formidable total between them. I had relations who lived in Bo'ness and when we visited there were some great discussions as to the relative merits of our teams. Didn't come to blows but it did get a bit heated!

Wikipedia credits him with being at Kilsyth Rangers, not 100% on that, that will be why garrellburn asks.

Wasn't really asking  for info, just adding another question for afficianados of this thread. My records show him coming to Kilsyth early in the 1952-53 season and his first goal came in a 1st round Pompey cup game against Shawfield Juniors on 230th September. He scored fairly regulaly thereafter getting a total of nine goals, a long way behind our top scorer, Martin Mulhall with 38. Two other, Arthur Walls on 13 and John Glover with 10 were ahead of him. Jimmy's final goal for us came in a 4-3 defeat at Wishaw on 2nd May 1953. That was the day of the Stanley Mathews cup final which was the first game I ever saw on television in a local cafe. I had missed the supporters bus for the game at Wishaw which was our first loss in 26 games .

Presumably Jimmy Harrower joined Bo'ness for the 1953-54  season as he did not figure in our team afterwards.

They're all at Broadwood watching Rutherglens  other team also pushing for promotion. Maybe a double celebration on the cards in a few weeks time.

There aren't many Clyde fans in Rutherglen these days.

    There's not many anywhere!

Great to see neutrals taking an interest in Glencairn hopefully you will be back, would be great if the people of Rutherglen would get out in numbers for last few home games and maybe help push the Glens over the line for promotion and hope fully on to winning the league COME ONE RUTHERGLEN GET BEHIND THE GLENS IN THEIR FINAL PUSH

I'll only be back if we're playing the glens mate or we've no game ,my mrs family all watch the glens ,but your right theve a smashing team at the moment and deserve more support from the rutherglen public .

Good to see Nicky coming good and getting a regular start. I always thought that he would have been picked up by a senior club before now. Reputedly Falkirk showed an interest a couple of years ago, must be better than some in their present squad.

Doubt any of you will have been at the teaser game but just a wee test anyway.  Back in 1950 the BU's hosted the 'oldest' club in the world and won 3-1.  Who were they?

I'll suggest it was a club which was not originally a football club, but played something else  like Queens Park being originally a cricket club. eg Kilsyth curling club claim to be the oldest in the world but they never started a football section for when the ice melted in the Spring. I don't really believe their claim in any case!

A tough teaser today.  Back in 1981, the BU's had an away tie in the Brown Cup, to Bonnybridge.  A 1-0 win was secured but at what ground?

Westfield Park (Dunipace?). I log in to this thread every morning, not just because its the most interesting one on P & B but to find out if there will ever be a game that Bo'ness actually lost!

Thanks, but don't tell our supporters that we're a Glasgow team. emoji6.png

Could be three if Rossvale make it as well. But hold on, are they not from East Dunbartonshire?

But maybe it would be back to two if Rob Roy go down, they are East Dunbartonshire as well. My head hurts,  is Barrhead in greater Glasgow or Renfrewshire or where?
