Extenuating circumstances there though, no? Resurrection but with a question mark.

resurrection put off till Easter but A decent performance till halftime then a total collapse. Liked your No 3, Brunton,  posed a few problems for us early and made your goal. Keep your heads up, things will improve.

Have faith, just look where Hurlford were a few years ago, down , but not quite out. They have risen from the nearly dead to the top.

The Broughty game was 600 for a mid week game Auchinleck game was just short of 4000.The volley holds the record attendance for a game in West Lothian 12000 against Broxburn in a Scottish Junior Cup quarter final around 1954.

There were 11400 at Albyn Park in Broxburn in March 1951 for a 6th round Scottish cup tie V Kilsyth Rangers so maybe it was Broxburn fans who helped set your record. Was Bo'ness not in West Lothian at that time as I am pretty certain that they had some even larger crowds in that era?

    Because the SFA say so!

The original laws of the game were drawn up by the (English) football association. nowadays it is FIFA who administer them. There are different requirements for dimensions of the playing surface depending on the grade of football they apply to. The SFA simply police the laws as set by others, or are supposed to, how often have seen a ref check the dimensions of a pitch? although we did have one complain about the height of a corner flag a couple of years back.

There's a few in there that have lights and virtually nothing else.

Thats because they are grounds built and owned by local authority with an eye to generating revenue from pitch hires to clubs which do not have any followers. The junior clubs are simply classed like all the others as having somewhere to play their games but with no regard for any spectators.

My dad got out of hospital on Thursday and a free Saturday allowed me the joy of taking him back to James McGrory Park. We left deservedly defeated by a good Kilsyth team but I thought both teams did well in bad conditions. Good luck to them for the rest of the season.

Like 2 wise men looking for the third we follow the star of the Roch and arrive bearing gifts of gold (£9 charge and with a tenner handed over and 1 gold £ of change returned, Frankie&Benny’s in our belly rather than frankincense and plenty of mhyrr-th... you’ve got to laugh at life and laugh in football ...
Wisemen and a virgin can be difficult to find at the best of times but there are contenders at the Candy... at least for the wisemen! I speak to a few and as snow frames manage a Christmas Card image, the Candy Christmas fixture is polluted by our usual footballing weather...”annus pluvious pishus” you may hear at 3pm on Christmas Day. The auld man returns from a 6 week jolly up in the QE infirmary and he looks shakier than the poor donkey carrying a pregnant Mary and a huge bag of presents Joseph has made in his woodwork workshop. He adorns himself in the clubhouse and I go speaking to the wise men. The Candy are hot and cold I’m told but a mid table position could be worse. Coffee consumed I head over to the 2 new stables behind the Candy DugOot Inn. One is full of blue hatted banterists and they cheer their opener which sees a Candy defender lying in his back looking up like he baby jesus and our keeper agog at the wonder of the free headed majesty. One down early doors and overplaying in bad conditions and coming slipperily unstuck. Conditions are poor but a good free kick delivery sees the Candy cash in on zero marking and a headed equaliser sees us into the break all square.

The second half is nip and tuck and the big impressive 9 for KR almost KOs is twice, as does the 6 both missing when a goal looked certain. A bad tackle gets a 2nd yellow and KR are down to 10. I defend the ref to a group of Kilsyth fans who are calling Hanlon all sorts, cheat being the favourite. A foul is a foul even if you don’t like the victim I say... an old scribing hack with a blue bonnet and a notepad beside me thinks I am doubting myself now. Doubting Thomas was 33 years after this Christmas nativity and rebirth of my junior football year. I leave this stable shed and head for the unstable shed at the other side of the dug out.... it’s like a Jamaican street market with the sounds and smells to match. Some great shouts and banter bite my ears as my nose is bitten by other things. One classic line of attack to their big bald towering strength number 4 who was mud splattered and loving it(big dirty defenders love being big and dirty! He played great) was “we have turned the showers aff big man”... the irony of a later shout to a diminutive defender by a Smoker of sultry wares “haw you, away an git yer script ya junky pr*ck” was not lost on me! Oh how I have missed it! I have been on a diet of good food mostly this season but my first Candy rush in months left me on a sugar high. Even the 10 man break away winner and the fruitless Candy last 10 minute kitchen sink throwing didn’t leave me low. It felt Festive and I felt something being back there yesterday. Everyone loves to comes home for Christmas and bringing my dad back for the first time in months and being in amongst it again and the familiarity of fun and friends and ultimate failure meant I was full of the spirit of the Candy and the glow of the game. This has been a marvellous year for the Candy and their fans. I would like to thank the staff and players and the fans for making it joyous for me.

Wishing you all the best wishes for Christmas and a fabulous football 2019. Candy fans, players and staff and fans of every other team. A Football Foe is just a mate you disagree with... we are all in it together and at this time of year it fills my heart to still be in love with football. Don’t underestimate it... The power of love, a force from above, cleaning my soccer soul.

As the 'scribbling old scribe' who made you doubt your own judgement regarding the tackle that resulted in a 2nd yellow card for Phil Dolan I was going to engage you in further conversation a litle later but you had moved away. Phil has a bit of a track record of losing his cool at times but is a great player who can be a match winner when he is on his game.  I think we were lucky to survive the onslaught of the last few minutes but full marks to our defence and especially the 'big no4' who has been the subject of admiring comments elsewhere, but everyone deserves praise. My only regret aboutb the game is that Salim (no9) did not score to make it eleven games in a row. I thought perhaps he might try for an OG near the end to maintain his run.

I always enjoy my visits to Garngad, the first would be sometime back in the 1950's probably but for a very long time we had very few  being in different league sections. There was a topic on this thread a little earlier re Scottish schools cup which  St Rochs won in 1979. A former player of ours, John Donnachie, whose 1st junior club was St Rochs also won it with St Mungos' school of Coatbridge in 1961. He also has a Scottish junior cup medal from 1967 with Kilsyth, both finals played at Hampden. Not saying this is a unique achievement, probably not, but still worthy of comment.

St Mungos have probably an unmatched record in this competition however, winners 9 times, finalists another 7 and semis 8.  Another player we got from the Roch was Walter Lees , capped for junior Scotland (as was John D) who went to Watford so we have good reason to be grateful to them. What can you tell me about our no 8 on saturday who I believe is a former St Rochs player?

Hope you can consolidate your place in the superleague this year as  there is a good buzz about the club nowadays and big improvements in the ground. May or may not be visiting you next season as I still believe we have a good chance of bagging one of the promotion places, we shall see.

We  might not win, but we will score.  Salim to make it 11 games in a row.

Far mor likely than Arthurlie scoring 3 at Garngad

Bemused by idea of the three up and meaningless games in our division. Nobody know what next summer might bring regarding the league set up. Clydebank stated last summer they were for the off in 2019. And Selkirk in the LL went tits up this season, who takes that extra spot? Now there’s talk of LL2 and SFL3. Truth is nobody can be sure what league they’ll be in next summer. Will there even be a Juniors?

I think the SJFA wii approve  the setting up of a new sructure in which it will effectively become part of the SFA and the west region will achieve the same status as the east of scotland league. There will then be no incentive for Clydebank, or any other club to leave for the east. It probably won't happen in time for season 2019-20 but the following one. Any clubs which don't fancy this setup for reasons of travelling expense or whatever, can drop into the amateur leagues which is probably the right level for them in any case.

Took this game in on Saturday, even although QP were at home (share my Saturdays between the two) First half was very even and Cambuslang had shown a much better attitude towards the officials and it seemed Meadow were losing it a bit (but getting used to the Ayshire teams in particular trying to intimidate the officials)

Exactly what was happening last week  in the Scottish at Kilsyth. Every time a decision went against them the Meadow players were round the ref like flies round a s**t. Fortunately he was having none of it and they got what they deserved, a good hiding.

** Due to the adverse weather forecast for Friday night into Saturday, Rutherglen Glencairn and Rossvale have agreed with the West Region to switch our league match to Rossvale's home ground at Huntershill Community Sports Hub in Bishopbriggs. The kick off time remains at 2pm. **

Not much consideration for your own fans then,  standing in a windswept cage with no cover, no hot food or drink available will not be a very attractive prospect on a day with that sort of weather. However it could be a good trhing for the chasing pack in the league table as I fancy Rossvale  could get a result here, I almost wrote 'shock' but it wouldn't really be as they are a more than decent side.

Not having a go at you G but considering the average age at a Junior game is 75+ and you seem to be missing a whole season i was wee bit worried about the old memory.

Larkhall finished 22 points behind the play-off places last season, so I share your surprise.

He is getting mixed up with his seasons

Yes, I am, but the principle still holds, their thread has only reall taken off during this bad spell.

  13. I've noticed in the past when a team is not doing very well that their club thread goes all quiet. The reverse has happened here, when Larkhall were going for promotion last season there were only a few posts now they are having a disasterous spell the thread has already gone to 12 pages, I expect it will go all quiet again when they start winning a few games.

Fancy Benburb at home, cant see them dropping many points up there. Enjoyed my day up there Saturday apart from the result. The bar area and toilets are 1st class, but for a new ground the outside looks like it could be doing with a bit of tlc. The seats in the stand were disgusting and in need of a right good clean and the amount of leaves on the pitch made it look in a right mess as well. Also, With no roof on the stand it doesn’t create much of an atmosphere

The seats in the uncovered stand came from the Glasgow Garden Festival site of perhaps twenty? tears ago according to a Bens committee man. They do have plans to erect some form of shelter over them apparently. Doing so would transform it into one of the better arenas in the junior game. As for the leaves, its autumn, and thats what happens at this time of year.

Whitletts scored 12 in one game, beat that this season.

There have been a lot of big scores already this season, I don't take them as being a measure of how good the winning sides are, more a reflection of how poor the opposition has been on the day. And I am saying that with us being one of the sides that Glencairn beat heavily. We were very much understrength that day but it should not have happened just the same. A lot of teams have been very much up and down, it did not happen to the same extent  a few years back, junior football was much more competitive ten, twenty years back. Now realistically there are only about six teams with a chance of winning the Scottish cup.

I am actually now looking forward to the end of the juniors, it is no fun watching it die a slow death.

It’s been a very tight league that’s undeniable. The promotion and relegation issues have always gone to the wire. Your point about promoted teams going straight up doesn’t change that fact.

I actually think promoted teams coming up and doing well is actually a contributory factor in the league being tight. We have it again this season, with four of the current top six being promoted sides.

Promoted teams probably find it easier to hold a squad together and have a winning mentality. Teams in the league above who miss out on promotion or have struggled to avoid relegation often make wholesale changes to their squads and it can take a while for them to gel as a team. We should know that having experienced both scenarios repeatedly over the past few years.

I don't think any Glencairn person expected that result today, we were all anticipating a really tough game. But right from the kick off we were on it, nearly creating a scoring chance after only 10 seconds.

To be 5-0 up after only 16 minutes was just unbelievable, we were just superb in that opening spell.

It's a pity we've picked up a couple of injuries to Gebbie and McGregor, but hopefully they're not too bad.

Not making any excuses at all,  Glens were ruthless in exposing defensive frailties we knew were there all along. There were five enforced changes from last week including two making their first appearances and others making their first starts but really we should have still done much better.  Apart from Cumbernauld last week it was the first game against a team in this division last season, all others were promoted or relegated from last season, already looking very much like another year in this division (I hope!)

Your right to a certain extent viewparker

crowds are up but compared to others we don't get as much sponsorship as you would think a lot of what we get done is basically done by the fans themselves.

I would argue that Rossvale have much more money coming in than us but the difference being they don't really have a support.

Your'e probably correct in that Rossvale have a regular guaranteed income from all the parents of the younger kids who play in the age group teams but I would imagine rthat most of it is also spent  on them. However they must be paying decent wages  for their junior side otherwise they would not have attracted the players .

Their fanbase is minimal, no doubt about that and whether they can continue the present model long term is in my view doubtfull.  Gartcairn come into the same category and have similarly enjoyed a quick success. It will be interesting to see if both can move up and establish themselves in the higher leagues.

It speaks volumes about how well we've done so far this season that we're heading back up the road disappointed not to have six wins out of six.

Yes, we were undone by one of the worst refereeing decisions I've ever seen, but in truth if we had taken just one more of the many chances we created then it wouldn't have been a factor.

Still, 16 points out of 18, still unbeaten and still top of the league. Mustn't grumble.

Surely not the worst you’ve ever seen.

It was soft but it was a penalty. Your boy was a bit naive and gave the referee a decision to make.

There is absolutely no debate about this one. It wasn't a penalty, it wasn't a foul, I'm even doubtful if there was any physical contact between the players. But the referee gave a penalty. Only he can explain why. But he won't, of course, we just have to accept it and move on.

Viewparker says it was; you say it wasn't. Isn't that debate?
