I remain to be convinced there is/was a risk. Even if there is, I'd rather take care of players that were on our books at the start of this pandemic than signing new players and paying them full whack from the get go.
I'd have expected the club to make full use of the furlough scheme before signing new players. You dont have to agree but it's far from absolutely bizarre.
Basing it on numerous performances last season, no less the Utd home win. Clearly had players looking up to him and was an ever present in the centre of midfield, keeping Beadling and Thomson out the team. Was best captain we'd had in some time.
I doubt they're going to completely bin off last summers approach. It was far from a disaster although the more established players we signed were more successful than some of the gambles.
Even my brother, who is usually a selfish b*****d when it comes to this sort of thing, has said he won't be taking a holiday abroad until next year.
I don't see what's selfish about taking a holiday abroad this year if it's allowed?
Comparing US and UK is like comparing apples with pears. We've not seen an upturn in positive cases from the numerous protests or VE day celebrations either.
