  1. Byrne signing on is good. Now we just need to get someone who can score goals for the half a season he's out injured.
  2. I can't help but think that the most Dumbarton outcome here would be to win this game to "make things interesting" before subsequentlly captiulating at the weekend.
  3. Just read this in an article about Leeds United under Javi Gracia and Faz came to mind for some reason.
  4. Well I’d be astounded if that encourages anyone.
  5. Great, now we’ve started with the embarrassing social media patter.
  6. I recall pulling back 8 points on Cowdenbeath in one week that season. There’s a lot of football still to be played.
  7. Fwiw having been on the dugout side of the pitch I reckon there’s more scope for moving the pitch than you might imagine.
  8. And that seems remarkable by the standards of modern football.
  9. For me that’s the worrying thing. The tactics which “served us so well” / “we were getting away with” (delete as appropriate) look like they might be starting to falter. Okay two games is a small sample size, but it worries me, and if I was the manager of a football team I would certainly be interrogating a) why we appear to no longer be holding on to a one goal lead b) what changes can be made to either stop conceding, or give us more protection against conceding. Yes we’re top. Yes we won yesterday. A really good manager doesn’t just stick to their guns though, and doesn’t just see that the result has gone their way. They look at the game as a whole and consider if they really gave the team the best chance of winning the match.
  10. That’s interesting, I was sure he tried to buy one, but I was a long way from the incident. We are such a frustrating team to watch and it really says something that this is (to this point of the season) the most successful team I’ve seen over a league season and I don’t really like the team at all. I think Faz made a big mistake by throwing an extra defender on. We’d already lost any sense of control in midfield and hauling off a midfielder for a defender meant we ceded all control of the midfield to Stenny, at which point we suffered wave upon wave of attack.
  11. Light a few bonfires round the pitch. It'll thaw it right out.
  12. I have to assume there are performance related break clauses in the agreement, if not it certainly looks a little foolhardy.
  13. McGeever pretty much demanded Carsy left the player to him in the lead up to the first goal. I think had McGeever not been shouting "I'm here. I'm here. I'm here." Carswell would have handled the situation himself.
  14. You should look into the Ember bus, they’ve added a Glasgow to Dundee service recently. It’s an electric service and pretty cheap.
  15. So that's Gemmel out (for the season), Byrne out for 8 weeks, and Wallace suspended for tomorrow. Home win.
  16. That bench is giving me the fear. Any injury to a defender, or a defender getting themselves booked and having a tricky time after and we’re in trouble.
  17. Assuming next weekend is postponed too that means we will remain unbeaten until at least the 1st of October.
  18. He really does if there’s any truth in that. I dislocated my shoulder landing on a hard wood floor while playing fives, all I said was “f**k” on impact, followed by “I think I need to go to hospital” as I stood up. Not a tear in sight.
  19. Imagine getting so rattled by your B-team having a match against a bunch of part-time jobbers. Utterly bizarre.
  20. Aye but Paul Martin’s stint as manager is perhaps the lowest I’ve felt supporting the Sons, and my earliest memories are of the Fallon era followed by the Wallace era.
  21. I suspect you're bang on with what Faz will do there and it's also not what I'd do. I may be tempted to go with a 4-2-3-1, with a back four of Lynas, Buchanan, Carswell, and McNiff/Wylde. A double pivot of Blair and McKee. A 3 of Orsi, Wallace, and Love, with Byrne up top. The two of Blair and McKee might be a bit lightweight, but Blair did a decent enough job of picking up the ball from opponents in the Raith game. You could replace McKee with either Wilson, but both seem miles off it. Love at this point is an automatic pick for one of the forward roles whatever formation we play. I'd prefer Wallace up top, but the form of the other midfied / attacking midfield options means I'd fancy trying him in the middle of the line of three. Orsi and McLean is a toss up, but I think Orsi is more dependable going backwards than McLean and Orsi can drive us up the pitch, even if his decision making and final ball are suspect. Byrne up top is dictated by shifting Wallace back and little else. We would need to really work to control the ball to make the above work though.
  22. Happy enough with that as a performance. Our attacking players look like that they might actually be capable of linking up this season, and we looked reasonably solid defensively. Huge credit to Broun too who had a decent game. Maybe chanced his arm trying to psyche out another Rovers player in the shoot out by leaving one end emptier than the other again.
