I would say Brad McKay has reached his potential, he just isn't a very good footballer. Polworth was shoved out of position that many times last season it would be unfair to judge him. If you play him behind the striker I think he will be a star in this league. I think he is already a Premiership quality player and we would do very well to hold onto him before the end of the window. Scott Boden is 27 that is generally a peak for strikers, he was clearly not good enough for the Premiership. The only hope he has is that the drop down a level is about the level he should be playing at. Agree on Mulraney though he only ever seemed to put a shift in when a live TV camera was pointed at him.

I think we have the base of a very solid team which should be challenging up the top of the division. 3-4 new additions will be needed (Centre Back, Centre Midfield, 1 or 2 wingers and another striker on top of Baird)

All these players played under Richie Foran last season who it was quite obvious did not get the best out of any of his players for various reasons. Carl Tremarco signed for us at the age of 27 and many thought of him after a year with us exactly what you say about Brad McKay. I seriously think that we haven't seen what Scott Boden can do for us, as a striker I would think his confidence would have suffered badly through last season having been left out, but the drop down might be the best thing for him to find his feet again. Its going to be a make or break season for Boden where he could either do well for us and earn a new contract or end up out and disappearing into the depths of English non league football.

Both Mulraney and McKay both still rough diamonds should mature under John Robertson as manager and they will learn a lot from him. I think both have bright futures with the club if they can learn and use their heads. I've heard that Brad McKay has the makings of a future captain, whether its with us its up to him to step up.

Remember this is a different league and we have a different and more experienced manager and there are going to be new players who will affect the blend of the squad and the way we play.

I would say we are not to bad at the back, midfield could do with some attacking midfielders and we could do with a couple more striking options probably younger players. I would say priority would be on bringing a couple of attacking midfielders to frighten the beejeeze out of opposition defenders as we are going to be taking the game to the opposition a lot lot more than we have been used to over the last few years. Key to this league is scoring goals rather than solid defending.

  2. Louis Laing a bit meh?? Us supporters don't have a lot of patience when it comes to new players, they have to impact right away don't they. Very few of our best players and very best players over the years impacted right away some of them even took a couple of years to find form and show what their best can be.

With this in mind out of the squad of players we have currently there are four players to watch this coming season who have not reached their best yet and will have that opportunity to improve and could be stars for us. Brad McKay, Liam Polworth, Scott Boden and Jake Mulraney. These are players who I believe have yet to reach their full potential, the other experienced players in the team have peaked already. If these four become stand outs for us this coming season I will have a lot more confidence in the future of the team. Polworth should be closest to finding his best ever form having been in the team for a few years, its all about consistency with him, the other three have had a season with the club and were fortunate that they were given more than a year to impress so must improve anyway.

All four if they do well will become automatic choices and survive any chopping as the squad is changed over the next two years. I'm say this because I see quite a similarity between this team and the team that went down in 2009 where we had a group of players who had been together for many years but many were past their best. Sadly I believe most of the remainders of our cup winning team will leave over the next two season for that same reason. It has to happen unfortunately and I see the 4 above mentioned as players who can take us forward and be part of the next team and hopefully with us back in the Premiership.

Gatecrashing put the beers in the fridge,Shirley it only complicates things if it goes tits up like at hearts does the director of footie become infallible?

Has it gone tits up at Hearts? Momentum has reversed on the pitch so last season was a disappointment, but is the club more stable now than it was this time three years ago?

Are you in favour of having a DoF at a football club, not about Rangers in particular but about this position generally?

At Celtic you have a slightly different structure, granted it probably works for Celtic maybe because you have the right people and a good solid structure built up over years, but its not for every club just like a DoF isn't for every club either.

Interesting post, buddy, and a good read.  I know nothing about Mark Allen but his background both in football and 'the media' marks him out from the general idea of a DoF.

Just a guess but probably likely he's going to take on a higher roll at the club in the future. Right now it would be all about building the recruitment structure and sourcing the right people for the right job including players and coaching staff and maybe take on a more hands on roll than the DoF position suggests.

There was a discussion on this subject around about the time McCall was in charge, I remember a few names thrown around by the media. I'd imagine this was all halted with the appointment of Warburton who didn't want to work with a DoF.

Even more impressive when you consider how many teams Rangers fans were going to boycott... oh wait

I hear the Sports Direct boycott is starting to buckle as well, fans crossed up over wanting to show their colours and avoiding handing fat Mike 96p for every pound spent. Maybe better digging out old tops and taking them to the Celtic shop to get the new players names printed as their own shop tends to run out of letters apparently. Some poor bluenose had to endure the embarrassment of this very scenario recently.

Better watch out that those pesky Celtic employees spell the names correctly.

I actually live in Brechin now and see the odd game. They were great last season.

I wish you all the best despite the barbs :thumsup2

Its not real hatred its just rivalry and a laugh.

Aye and good luck next season especially in Europe that's not going to be easy in any of the games. If you make it through to the third qualifying round you'll be doing well.

So is mine, happy with the signings, looking forward to Europe.

I hope you enjoy Glebe Park equally.

The only thing I'm a wee bit jealous of is that you're drunk and I'm sober.

But then I learned a while back that posting on here while rat-arsed is not a good idea, there's always a chance that you will eventually make an absolute tit of yourself.

And yes I will enjoy Glebe Park, have done in the past, a great wee ground.

When you spend the majority of your time posting about a club other than your own,  it's time to consider whether you're a supporter or a hater.

I'm not interested in your shitty avatar or designated club you support....if you act like a dolly, you get assumed as one. Given your transfers you're Dolly's B team anyway.

    Didn't you get relegated anyway?

    Piss off.

Looks like the penny has finally dropped.

Yep my club was relegated, its still alive though.

Why are you playing to the gallery all of a sudden?

It was you acting billy big-baws on a Rangers thread as an Aberdeen fan and when questioned, now you're rallying the troops from other clubs I never mentioned.

My point was about YOUR club that you raised in MY club's thread.

Anyhow, you avoided my last question....who was the only club your fans filled your stadium to watch last season? Twice.

    Aberdeen fan???

I think you need to step away from the computer for a while.

Other than a fan of the team with a monopoly, I can't think of any football supporter, anywhere on the planet that believes one club winning everything is better than two clubs fighting it out. I suppose it depends on your own peculiar brand of hatred though.

Of course you've enjoyed the last 5 years more, you've enjoyed being Celtic's bitches and lapping up second places. Still only won one league cup mind. ;) In the previous 20 years you achieved hee-haw. So not exactly rocket science there.

Mind you, with all your second place trophies, you only sold out your stadium twice last season......to the same visiting team :whistle

Criticism of a club that bettered your club in every competition last season. I can't see Rangers doing any better than Aberdeen in the league for a long long time, you're going to have to get used to it.

Maybe Rangers will win one of the cups over the next few years and you will come to understand the joy it feels to actually win a national trophy again as the fans of these clubs have done, Hibernian, Inverness CT, St. Johnstone, Hearts and Dundee Utd who have all won the Scottish Cup since a Rangers team last won it and then there's Ross County, Aberdeen, St. Mirren and Kilmarnock who have won the League Cup since the last time Rangers won that trophy as well. That's a long time for Rangers fans for their club to go without a national trophy and I would say Aberdeen's League Cup win trumps Rangers Challenge Cup victory very easily.

Also remember how many attempts it took for this Rangers team to win the lower league trophy which for a club of the size of Sevco and with the largest support by far in the lower leagues is a bit well let's say embarrassing. So this belittling of Aberdeen recent achievements is hilarious considering what this Rangers team has achieved since David Murray sold up.

Its quite funny to say to a Rangers fan but come back when your team has actually won something of note and your criticism of other clubs in the top division will be taken more seriously.

The Celtic fans probably wouldn't be the ones spewing if the other mob were to mount a challenge rather than actually win the title, but there would be plenty of fans of other clubs who would. Just have a read at any Rangers match thread on here from last season where they have won a match they weren't expected to as proof of that, with the game at Firhill where they scored two late goals to win 2-1 being the classic example. The amount of dummies being royally spat out on here after that was hilarious. "Look at they b*****ds celebrating too much"

What kind of timescale do you think would be enough before Rangers would be in a position to challenge Celtic for the title?

Celtic would probably have to have a change of manager before that could happen as well, can't see it happening with Brendan Rodgers as Celtic manager.

Having only one very much bigger club in the way, also brought that club in closer to the pack and enabled others to win cups.

It was Rangers getting into the top flight that forced Celtic to get their act together this season and as a result, move as far from the diddies as their huge resources dictate they really should be.

The greatest hope for the genuinely competitive game that MJC pretends he'd like to see, lay in keeping the OF apart.  Reuniting them just leads to an arms race that ensures diddies can't compete.

There's probably about four teams capable of getting between the two next season and finishing ahead. Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibernian and St. Johnstone.

Rangers target for next season will be to finish 2nd and cut the gap to Celtic, both achievable goals for them. Though the second target relies entirely in Celtic's hands rather than anything Rangers could do other than in the 4 league games between them.

They are the only club that can seriously challenge Celtic for the title, no one else can. It's not good for the league to have one club running away with it any winning it before Halloween.

That, and the fact that this place and others like it will be hilarious with the obsessors spewing about it. :)

They would need to put in a serious challenge for 2nd first before even thinking about challenging Celtic. Not sure why you think Celtic fans will be spewing about it when they are after the 10 in a row. Your post just reads like you are spewing about it.
