Looks like Boyd wants full time but I agree I've always liked him.

I wonder what his chances are of getting a FT deal... having not properly kept an eye on things too closely it is hard to say. I know his fitness/injury record hasn't always been great and he never properly settled.

I know he hardly scored loads last year but always thought he looked a handy player anyway. He would certainly be an upgrade on any of last seasons options.

On the signing front, particularly strikers anyone got any targets in mind?

Mentioned earlier on this thread that I always liked Steven Boyd but fitness seems to have been an issue for him.

As others have touched on, who knows what to expect this window. At least it is a bit exciting 😬

Absolutely loving that.  PITK has been sorely missed these last three seasons.

Could be argued both ways though. Patience is needed to build a squad of the required level. But being too "patient" at all levels (including giving JD all the time he wanted to mull things over) caused us many of our problems and we ended up scrambling around to finish the squad off and make sure we had options on the bench.

Definitely sounds like Faz is motivated to get things done in a timely fashion, but also aware that rushing into signings can land you in lots of trouble (see DFC 2020/2021). The new gaffer's approach is getting better and better, at least from the outside looking in anyway.

Jim Duffy had the option to use an extra 5k that’s sitting in a pot in the form of the managers fund and he didn’t bother his arse. That would’ve involved him having to put a bit of work in and actually finding a player that could improve the squad. This isn’t hearsay either, it was publicly confirmed by the treasurer of said fund.

I’d be very surprised if Stevie Farrell doesn’t excercise his option to use it.

I was thinking about that fund during the week. Thinking that we could've had used it to make sure the pitch was kept in better condition, since it wasn't being used on any player(s). Especially since the pitch has been loosely blamed on a couple of occasions for our style of play this season.

Not the season just ended but it seems he was the previous one. Not that it matters but it probably is just about last chance saloon if he wants to return to full time.

"Frizzell initially joined Dumbarton on loan from Kilmarnock in October 2019, but a serious knee injury ended his season early and forced him to spend almost a year on the sidelines"

That year on the sidelines was half COVID I reckon. But even before that he only showed in the odd occasion what he could do. Shocked he has found a FT deal even at this level! But I agree, last chance I would say if he can't show his capabilities more often.

It’s weird how highly other clubs seem to rate our, not terrible, but very average squad from last season.

I do feel that players like Frizzell should be capable of more and if he was managed properly can be a good option at this level. But I'm also not bothered in the slightest at him leaving because we should easily be able to fine a replacement and hopefully one who plays to their full abilities more consistently.

Ah perhaps Adam Frizzell is over his injuries and can produce something like this

He wasn't ever really injured for us. Just not very good, most of the time. He would shoe a little flash of something every 5 or 6 games in beating a man and creating a chance. Then he would disappear for half a dozen matches again.

Has some ability but just doesn't have any consistency in showing/using it.

I posted this about Wilson yesterday so I’m fairly astounded to read today that he’s turned us down for what is effectively a trial with Falkirk. If I’m being honest I really expected him to leave us and head to a team in the Highland League.

Didn't an Airdrie fan enquire about him yesterday too? I think he is the kinda guy who in a team in League 2 who create a few chances would score a few but will always effectively be found out at any higher level. Fine as a squad player but not someone to be relied upon at this level. Certainly don't think he will make it at a FT club.

Only one who really fits that criteria is Robert Jones.

Think that is harsh really. He didn't blow us away but contributed plenty to the team throughout the season. Better examples would be Daniel Church or Ruaridh Langan.

I think carswell is as important as any player we have signed the last 5 years, keeping him is quite a big achievement if you ask me.

I think having a couple players more experienced than him (geggan/Boyle) will take the weight of his shoulders a wee bit, add to that some legs beside him in a midfield for a change then he’ll be able to focus on what he’s good at instead of having to do the running of two like he has had to in the past alongside guys like wedderburn forbes and the laziest of them all Hutton.

Hutton was far superior to Carswell in the season before he left. In all honesty, Carswell hasn't been the same since the year before that which has been highly disappointing for most. He really needs to get back to the player we know he csn be because that's 2 seasons of him not being good enough, in my opinion.

Got to say, surely paddy is an improvement over quitongo?

Based on what? His performances over the last 10 years?

Take into account the last few and I'm not 100% there is much between them.

I’m led to believe Mark Durnan signing for you guys.
Steven Bell has been offered terms but hanging out for a possible player coach job at Stranraer.

Yeah, Durnan has been a bit of a donkey since he left QoS. Would really need to step it up for me... 😒

I’ll be honest, I’m not entirely convinced with the Boyle signing but willing to give him a chance.

Yeah, he didn't really impress me much a couple of years ago when he was at Peterhead to be honest.

  14. Not going to lie - I fail to see what Wallace done to impress so many. I thought he was another "tries hard but not good enough" player for me with as much end product as Jones had. He just generally looked less awkward than Jones due to his different build and what not.

    Not at all.

He looked so far out of his depth at all times during his seasons with us. There's no reason to particularly dislike him and I feel he would do himself many favours in dropping down a league to get himself going and hold down a place in a team. Otherwise I can't see him having much of a career in football, to be perfectly honest.

  16. Let's be honest, Faz appeared to keep Aitken in his place. When Faz left Aitken turned into a Billy big baws and thought he was something.

I quite liked him when he was with us and think he has worked well in a difficult job at Stranraer too. He conducts himself well and still appears to be driven and well grounded.

Is Nat Wedderburn a bad player? Absolutely not. Does Nat Wedderburn need legs beside him in the midfield much like Ross Forbes? Absofuckinglutely! You boys are 2 big hoofers at the back away from total Duffyball ©️

Yeah, Wedderburn had some good games but for me was much overrated throughout the season. Much like Forbes, he didn't perform well anywhere near consistently enough, in my opinion.
