I wouldn't mind us going after that Liam Brown from Edinburgh.

    He was superb last night.

I wasn't overly impressed by any of the Edinburgh City players to be honest but maybe I just overlooked things with the excitement of the situation etc and being at the game 😂

I think Ramsbottom is a decent keeper. He does have his hairy moments but who doesn’t at this level. I’d definitely want someone to push him but since he came in he’s kept us in games more than he’s cost us (the ridiculous Forfar goal aside).

I think someone would need to create chances for Wilson but I think given chances he’d score goals. I also think given support Jones would do a job too but that’s not a commonly held opinion on here so I darent say it too loud.😂

I feel like Ramsbottom is fine. But I also think we can do better. Goalkeepers are always interesting in the loan market. Because they tend to peak a little later you can usually get good ones (like Dabrowski) who is far superior even with his own weaknesses.

I'm one of the few who has stuck up for Jones this season. I think he gets much more criticism than some of the others, which isn't warranted. He is decent enough at the hold up play and winning us fouls in the opposition half. Shame we haven't had a decent quality delivery most of the time to use it to our advantage.  That being said, I still don't think we should retain Jones.

So now that the season has ended and we’ve retained our league one status, for the squad id like to see

KEEP - Ramsbottom  (needs competition for his place though) McGeever, Neill, McAlister (doubtful), Wardrop, Carswell, Wedderburn and Wilson.

I think Wilson could do well with a partner up top and some forward thinking management so let’s see what happens there.

No chance I'd keep Ramsbottom. Can't be doing with a bomb scare in goal - even as back up. Too much of a liability. Also wouldn't keep Carswell or Wedderburn. Both have been disappointing but I could see us keeping 1 of the 2.

I'm not as convinced about Wilson either but in a creative team he would score a few (but miss a lot more).

As good a chance as you could wish for to get promotion. Think the sending off was harsh but can see why it was given. Absolute nailed on penalty after a brilliant turn from Ouzy not long after it. If I’d been in the ground I’d be starting next season with a football banning order, thank heaven for small mercies and all that.

Anyway, we only have ourselves to blame, all went wrong in that 1st leg 2nd half and never recovered from it.

For the first time in a few years I’d be expecting a big overhaul of the squad. As others have said if we can’t get past this Dumbarton side then we can’t really talk about ambitions of competing at the top of league 1.

I think many of ours fans had a bit of fear about playing sides who had finished the season on much more of a high but seeing us vs Stranraer and yourselves just shows that there is a significant enough step up to the league we are in.

No disrespect, but I was never overly worried throughout the tie and feel we deserved to win through in both the semi final and final games. The sending off was correct and killed off any chance of momentum being built. Stupid to dive like that when booked already. FWIW, I don't think the ref would have booked him if he knew he was already on a booking. Seemed like he realised afterwards to me (not that it should make any difference of course!).

Faz to send us down. Stevie Aitken to w**k himself silly. NAP.

With Grant Gallagher scoring the goal that relegates us.

Andy Stirling is much more likely... but yeah it would be typical if that happened of course.

Ps, we need an "anyone but Dumbarton" option please.

Quite simple if you watch Goodwillie every week as we do, we see a terrific player with fantastic attitude and work rate allied to great ability. What you would also see is a player essentially playing with equivalent of one boot on, given he is surrounded by absolute jobbers, often up front himself with the ball being rifled to him with snow on it!

Put him in any of the top 6 teams in this league and he would be on 25 plus goals this year easily. Best player in Clyde  shirt in generations and I’ve been watching for decades.

I haven't once argued against any of that. I also acknowledged that I would love to have him in our team for his abilities. But none of what you say makes him the "best player in the league" and I stand by my opinion that he isn't - as do many others going by the replies on this thread.

Interesting thought... who would you say is the best in the league currently?

I think ability-wise, Goodwillie is miles in front. Scored against Casillas ffs. However almost half a decade playing at this level seems to occasionally rub off on him. He still does the odd Goodwillie thing though, thinking the first game back v East Fife where he just thought f**k it and decided to score.

Hard to pick out who I think is the best currently, maybe Fyvie at Cove? Also really like Antoniazzi at Montrose whenever I've seen him previously.

If we are looking at the whole league I would take Rudden over Goodwillie. Probably Mitch Megginson too actually.

I don't think Goodwillie scoring against Spain 10 years ago qualifies him as the best player, at any level, now. That being said, he is a very good option in league 1 and I'd have loved us to have a player like him this season!

    Can't wait for his hat-trick tonight 😒

Where has all the positivity gone from all us Clyde fans, ffs we are playing East Fife not fcuking Real Madrid. We have got a few positive aspects in our favour, we know exactly which result we need so there won’t be any confusion on how we approach the game, the guys are all buzzing from Saturday and should take a lot of confidence from that performance, we have had a decent rare rest period and time to prepare, we have got something to play for, we are past due a result against EF  as we were against Dumbarton and one last thing we have David Goodwillie  the best player in the division who is well capable of putting any team to the sword.

I mean... we have Robert Jones and Isaac Layne (kinda).

In all seriousness though, he is a decent player but I wouldn't go as far as to say he is the best in the league.

I don't think we should offer him a new contract but to say 90% of his set pieces are dross is just nonsense.

Although his shooting from Free Kicks has been well below my expectations. I don't think he has troubled a goalkeeper at all this season shooting from a free kick.

I'm being serious when I say 90% have been poor. The amount of free kicks which end up out of play is ridiculous.

I've not even started on his free kicks. He hasn't properly worked a 'keeper this season. I now don't even get remotely excited by the prospect of him hitting a free kick around the box any more.

  10. 3 hours ago, GordyBrow said:

I suspect his set piece success rate would compare favourably to most set piece takers.

I've said it before and I will say it again... if I hit 15 corners/free kicks every match I would get at least 1-2 of them right. That's the kind of success rate we are talking about. It's impossible to know how many he has hit but I would estimate that it couldn't be much more than 10% could be classed as "good deliveries".

He has set his own high standards and this season his deliveries haven't been good enough, given how many he has hit.

What is important with our next managerial appointment, is that we get someone who will work with Holt but not for him. The manager needs to be willing to challenge the DOF when required and not just do as he says. My concern is Holt will want the latter

  12. I'm guessing that perhaps the plan is to use the current site to fund they proposed stadium move.  We would need to build and sell houses in the car park first? This would also make more sense of the newly registered company recently set up in our name, so to speak.

Desperately poor performance today in what’s been a really difficult season. We just didn’t compete well enough, which is so disappointing. Also seemed to really miss McAllister’s presence in this side, he’s emerged as an asset as the weeks have progressed.
A collective deep breath is now required by everyone and a bit of focus ahead of Peterhead. The pendulum has swung in Clyde’s favour but we’re not yet in playoffs and we’re not yet ‘doon’.

I hope that after the match today Jim and the senior players insisted upon a reaction. It would be extremely aggravating if we don’t come flying out the traps on Tuesday

Ahh... like we should have done today you mean? 😒

He’s miles off the level required. Another game without a goal but there’s more to it than that. A good through ball at 1-0 that not only did he fail to control (which would have put him through on goal) but his first touch played the ball behind him. Hugely frustrating. He’s not the only one but our inability to score is killing us and more often than not he’s the one leading the line, so the criticism is warranted imo.

Who isn't? Wilson, Brindley, Frizzell and Crossan to name a few. 100% we don't have enough quality in the final 3rd but I feel he is singled out for criticism when I'd have him ahead of a few others. He lacks any finesse and he doesn't look the most natural but at least he puts in more effort than Wilson or Frizzell etc.

If Jones is playing professional football next season I’ll be amazed. So far out of his depth at this level it’s embarrassing.

Do you really think he is as bad as we have? Think he was one of our best today... doesn't say much for the rest but the criticism he gets is often OTT, in my opinion.
