  1. Duffman speaks:

Duff & Phelps, the Administrators of Rangers Football Club, today issued the following statement.

David Whitehouse, Joint Administrator, said: "We are announcing today we are accelerating the sale of Rangers Football Club.

"The Club is in a perilous financial situation and that should not be under-estimated. Regrettably, we have been unable to agree cost-cutting measures with the playing staff on terms that will preserve value in the business. We understand the players' position as the scale of wage cuts required to achieve these savings without job losses were very substantial indeed.

"In view of this, we are faced with a situation of making redundancies within the playing staff on such a scale that would materially erode the value of the playing squad. We are striving to strike a balance where cost-cutting measures can be implemented but do not destroy the fabric of the playing squad to the extent that it will inhibit the prospect of a sale.

"However, no one should be in any doubt that in the absence of sufficient cost-cutting measures or receipt of substantial unplanned income, the Club will not be able to fulfil its fixtures throughout the remainder of the season.

"As a result, we are expediting the sale process and over the next few days we will be holding discussions with prospective purchasers who have declared their interest. The Manager, Ally McCoist will play an integral part in thesediscussions.

"If however it becomes apparent that the sale process cannot be accelerated there will be no choice but to implement very severe cost cutting measures at the Club."

  2. The criteria for Associate Membership aren't in the Handbook either - infact they don't appear to be online at all. However, they've been effectively (but perhaps not quite) harmonised with the Entry level Licensing, which does require 3 years audited accounts.

Also, Gretna 2008 have applied for SFA Associate Membership for next season, and notably this is the end of their 3rd year of existence. E.g.:

    http://www.pieandbov...s-scottish-cup/

They require the last 3 years of accounts if they have been trading for that time. I don't know where it says they have to have been in existance for 3 years.

If you're right then neither the SPL nor the SFL would be an option, SFA menbership being a requirement of both.

  3. HibeeJibee is unusually well out of line here.

If Rangers do go bust then surely FC Rangers of Glasgow would have every right to apply for an opening in the league, in the same way that I could form Craig's Corinthians, playing out of my own newly built stadium, and apply for the place. We would then both go up against existing clubs like Cove Rangers, Spartans etc, and the SFL clubs would decide which club they wanted to admit. That is entirely consistent with what has gone before.

I can only imagine that he thinks that if the Spartans suddenly got a billionaire investor that they should be admitted straight into the SPL rather than apply for admission to Div 3.

  4. maybe I'm mistaken but everyone that's saying that a NewCo 'can apply & have their application judged on its own merits' are wrong?

in order to make an application for entry you must meet certain criteria, one of those is having three years of audited accounts, the NewCo wont have this (unless they buy it off someone else) so their application wouldn't even make it to the judging panel, surely?

I thought the three year rule only applied to UEFA competitions. The SFL rule is that any newly admitted club must apply to join the SFA within 2 or 3 weeks.

  5. This is the biggest fact that needs resolved in the whole scenario IMO. I don't expect it to be released into the public domain but once SPL chairmen know how much Sky-ESPN would pay for Rangers-less SPL, they'll be making a pragmatic decision based on discernible scenarios.

If it's wrong for Rangers to 're-enter' SPL, it's equally wrong for them to re-enter the national league structure, surely?

It's easy for SFL1 club fans to decry Rangers entering above them, yet be perfectly happy for them to enter below them. It's also rather hypocritical.

You're very big on hypocricy these days. There should be some punishment for ignoring rules and cheating your way to success. A suitable punishment would be being forced to apply for admission to the bottom level of professional football, and fight their way back up. It would also be highly entertaining.

  6. After being told by Duffman that wage deferrals are unacceptable because the budget has to be cut, not just staved off on the never never, the players have proffered another deferral plan to be considered over night. Sounds like unless the players agree pay cuts sharpish Duffman will be handing out P45's without Ally's input, who is trying to avoid the responsibility of saying who has to go.

  7. Another of Craig Whyte's mates goes into hiding:

Rangers FC company secretary Gary Withey has left Collyer Bristow for “family and personal reasons”, the firm has confirmed.

Withey, a partner at the firm, had become embroiled in the Glasgow football club’s administration, after advising businessman Craig Whyte on his takeover of the club last year.

Collyer Bristow has confirmed that Withey left the partnership and the firm on 2 March and that the firm does not know of his whereabouts.

“We’ve been in contact with him and he is no longer a partner of the firm,” a Collyer Bristow spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said that the firm has been in e-mail contact with Withey for the past 10 days, but had not made any attempts to trace his location using his IP address.

It is understood that Withey did not attend a meeting on 29 February, the day before his membership of the firm ended.

  8. WTF!

Also suggested was the possibility of imposing more severe punishments on clubs in the bottom half of the SPL table who are not in contention for a place in Europe.

It was argued clubs challenging for a spot in the Champions League or Europa League would suffer greater if they went into administration, as they would find it near-impossible to be granted a UEFA club licence to participate.

As clubs not competing for a place in Europe wouldn’t suffer that handicap, it was suggested they should suffer a greater points deduction.

  9. Minutes from a meeting Rangers Supporters Association had with Duff and Phelps yesterday:

SUMMARY OF A MEETING WITH THE ADMINISTRATORS ON SATURDAY 3 MARCH 2012

    1. Details of cuts to meet the £1m shortfall will be announced on Monday - new investors unlikely to want to inherit the current cost base of the Club - hence the need to implement the cuts.

    2. Liquidation is "unlikely" but can't be ruled out - a CVA far more preferable to liquidation as that puts at risk future European monies for a number of seasons.

    3. Pursuing the whereabouts of funds - focussed on what was promised by Craig Whyte in the Takeover document - "highly unlikely" Craig Whyte would be involved in the Club going forward.

    4. The contracts, security, legal charges and financing of the Craig Whyte takeover are all being challenged, however, any security Whyte has or had is not likely to be an impediment to a sale.

    5. The £3.6m ring-fenced from Collier Bristow is subject to legal claims from other parties as well as Rangers FC Plc.

    6. Good interest in acquiring the Club and criteria will be based on fully financing the acquisition and be able to sustain the business going forward.

    7. Key role for the Administrators is to put the business in a good state for acquisition.

    8. Big tax case not a key issue in the sense that liability will be part of the creditors share out - far example, if there is a pot of £20m to share out - each party will get a dividend whether the total liability is say £40 million or £100 million.

    9. Best way of contributing finance at the moment is through match-day sales - tickets, hospitality, catering, etc.10. Suspect that the Arsenal shares money is lodged in Pritchard Stockbrokers accounts - assets of that firm are now frozen by the FSA and it will require legal argument to recover.

  10. I would bet against it the only thing Whyte wants is liquidation thats the only plan that works I would not even bet against that they were in liquidation before the end of the season.

Hope you're right, though if Whyte loses his secured creditor status because it wasn't his money that paid off Lloyds and he hasn't put any of the money he promised into the club, then he would lose all influence over what happens.

  11. Any bets on Ticketus becoming a major shareholder in Rangers? They made clear in their statement that they're worried about losing the lot if the club gets liquidated, and they're already talking to potential buyers and consortia. If they were part owner the fans wouldn't be so unwilling to buy season tickets even if the cash was going straight to them. It could be worth their while to put a significant amount of money on the table to safeguard their 24 million already at stake. It would probably all depend on coming to deal with the HMRC, especially with the big tax case. Stand firm HMRC, you're acting in the name of Her Majesty, don't give an inch to these cnuts!

  12. As much as i wish you were right i just cant see it. It would be morally wrong for a Phoenix Rangers club to be allowed straight back into the SPL with no punishment. At the same time i am not sure i would buy a season ticket knowing we had a 15 point penalty and give my hard earned money to clubs who were making life difficult for us. My choice would be a wee trip down to the 3rd division and start again..spread our money through the divisions and it would benefit the whole of Scottish football. Hopefully the 'other' SPL clubs would close the gap on celtic who have a history of just doing enough to win the league and in 3 years time we would have a more competitive SPL and clubs throughout the leagues will have benefitted from more exposure and hopefully a TV deal for the SFL.

You would probably enjoy it, away days in the likes of Annan, Brechin and Peterhead. How long it would take small town Scotland to recover from the Mad Max style dystopia you would leave behind is another matter.
