  1. This is the kind of feedback I was looking for. Legs is something we don't necessarily have at the moment (albeit players like Jamie McKernon and Thomas Halleran are willing runners) so Dylan Dykes might give us something different. Conor McBrearty was an effective player for us last season and his defining characteristic was "big energy".
  2. Lovely stuff, this sounds like the missing piece of our jigsaw. I look forward to seeing him popping a brace past Cowdenbeath tomorrow.
  3. I hear what you're saying but the way the manager and the players use social media doesn't seem to bother me. I did find it strange Colin McMenamin would write a tweet to congratulate Leigh Griffiths while failing to acknowledge his side's performance against Heart of Midlothian, but it wasn't anything I found vexing. I think, by and large, our players are well behaved on Twitter - they interact with fans, they talk about the teams they support away from Stenhousemuir - but it never seems to cross a line. None of the players I follow are really all that active anyway. I do remember Falkirk supporters getting annoyed with Fraser Aird and his #WATP schtick on social media when his team were struggling and I can fully understand their displeasure, but no-one in our team tends to do that. It sounds a bit trite but as long as the team performs well on the park, a tweet about Celtic's treble treble is pretty inconsequential.
  4. I said the same thing last night. This is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to playing Cowdenbeath at the weekend because we'll have to take the game to them, as we'll be expected to do most weeks. It'll give us a good barometer as to how well we'll do in the upcoming season. I'm a little worried about the lack of creativity in the team but I reckon with players like Thomas Halleran (who I have high hopes for) and David Hopkirk playing in a more advanced role, there should be enough in there to unlock League 2 defences.
  5. Are fans ever normally consulted on the design of their shirts? I've been following Stenhousemuir for 15 years now and other than picking a design for some low-quality third kit, the supporters have never been asked for their input. Nor should they. It sounds as though you're just looking for reasons to complain, "DumbartonTheSons"!
  6. Yes, I'm sure rival fans will be scrapping outside Tim Horton's over the Warriors' botched attempt to sign him.
  7. I'm very proud of Stenhousemuir FC's effort this evening. I was expecting to come back to FK5 with a leathering so to emerge with a narrow defeat, a good defensive performance and a world-class moment from Mark "Mr Goals" McGuigan, I'm satisfied. We rode our luck at times - Heart of Midlothian could have scored about four or five before Craig Halkett's late intervention - but who cares! Graeme Smith was the man of the match tonight. Some of his goalkeeping was out of this world, especially his double block at the beginning of the second half. His handling was sound and he knew exactly when to come off his line (his block with his legs to stop Conor Washington from scoring midway through the first half was tremendous). He was abetted by Andy Munro and David Marsh, two meat-and-potatoes centre-backs who threw themselves in front of everything. Munro in particular was excellent and the way he defended his goal-line and organise the back four and the players in front of him was great to watch. Scott McLaughlin too deserves a lot of credit for the way he handled himself at right-back - I've been impressed with him so far. McGuigan did a lot of thankless running as the lone attacker and it was great to his endeavour rewarded with a goal. His strike - cutting across his marker to toe home Alan Cook's pinpoint centre - was a sensational moment. Yeah, it might have come in a low-stakes game against an indifferent Hearts outfit, but it'll live long in the memory. The way he celebrated with his team-mates in front of the away fans in the Roseburn Stand was incredible. Halkett's equalising goal was disappointing given how well we had defended the penalty box previously but I think we just ran out of puff and lost concentration at the vital moment. His second came when he headed home a great Jake Mulraney cross. I thought we would have been a decent shout for penalties - and I was positive with Smith in goal we would get the bonus point - but it wasn't to be. The upcoming match against Cowdenbeath is the one I've been most looking forward to in the Betfred Cup because it'll give us a perfect barometer as to how our season will pan out. I've seen us against St Mirren, Dundee United and now Hearts and we've done well against sides we've not been expected to win against by sitting back and soaking up pressure. How will we fare against one of League 2's more unremarkable teams (no disrespect, of course)? Can we take the game to them? I can't wait to find out!
  8. I haven't watched Raw in ages but I keep up to date with the WWE via Uproxx's With Spandex webzone and last night's episode of Raw sounded absolutely garbage. I couldn't quite believe what I was reading.
  9. Was anyone at the match on Saturday? From the reports I've read - almost exclusively from East Fife fans - we took a bit of a battering and 2-0 reflects rather kindly on us.
  10. Morgyn Neill had a weird season at Stenhousemuir last year. He had big shoes to fill, with the excellent Dunlop brothers moving elsewhere, and for a while he looked like the player we were expecting - a big, no-nonsense stopper, albeit pretty raw. Neill was our best defender over the first half of the campaign, although when you're playing alongside Jesus Garcia Tena, that's not saying much at all. He was decent enough at doing the heavy lifting but seemed to get dragged out of position a lot and never truly looked assured. In January, Colin McMenamin turned over his defence and signed Andy Munro from Forfar Athletic and brought back David Marsh from Cowdenbeath and we immediately looked a far harder prospect. Neill was either used as part of a three-man defence or not at all when we played with a back four. He was guilty of two catastrophic errors, one against Raith Rovers (where he sliced a clearance towards his own net, prompting the goalkeeper to throw himself at it and push it out to Liam Buchanan to score a 91st-minute equaliser), the other against East Fife (where he played an unsighted back-pass straight into the path of Aaron Dunsmore). It was interesting to stand by the sidelines of our match against Brechin City on the final day of the season - we were playing in a back three with Neill on the left, and he had to be talked through the whole of the first half by Marsh and Munro. After a red card, we reshuffled to an orthodox back four and he looked far more at ease. I wasn't too disappointed when he left the club, to be honest. There's probably a solid lower-league centre-back in there but he needs an experienced, vocal player in alongside him. Is that Ryan McGeever? I don't know. I'm surprised to see him falter so quickly at Dumbarton, right enough. It's still early days.
  11. "I really need you (sic) backup to sort him out." Horrendously small-time stuff, I'm sorry to say.
  12. If Harvey Swann is unlikely to play again for Cowdenbeath, what'll happen to him? Will he move elsewhere this summer?
  13. I agree, Scott McLaughlin has been one of the least-exciting signings I think we've ever made, particularly in the context of having loads of money, but he's shown up well in the two matches I've seen him in, both in unfamiliar positions. He was brought into the club to primarily work as a fitness coach and then add to the squad, so all things considered, it's probably a good piece of business.
  14. Let's take a look at our squad for the season ahead: Goalkeepers: Kyle Marley Graeme Smith Defenders: David Marsh Aidan McIlduff Andy Munro Marky Munro Chris O'Neill Midfielders: Alan Cook Kieron Gibbons Thomas Halleran Brandon Luke Jamie McKernon Scott McLaughlin Liam Scullion Forwards: Kieran Anderson Tiwi Daramola David Hopkirk Mark McGuigan Ryan Watters Probably not a side that's likely to challenge for the title but we should be looking to get into the top four. We still lack a dominant central midfielder but I reckon we'll be able to make big changes in January if they're required. There's a lot of versatility in the team with several players being able to operate in more than one position. I reckon the starting XI will be: - McGuigan - Hopkirk - - Cook - Halleran - McKernon - Scullion - - McIlduff - Marsh - A. Munro - O'Neill - - Smith -
  15. He really went off the boil towards the end of the season. Fast forward five minutes into this video to see one of the boobs of the season against Raith Rovers - we were heading towards a well-earned 1-0 win until the big man did this...
  16. Are there any highlights from Tuesday night's game? I was following the match on Twitter and you better believe I want to see Dumbarton's defending.
  17. Fair play, I really enjoyed that this evening. Although Dundee United were the better side and deserved their win, I thought we gave them a good game and worked them hard. The back four looked solid - Scott McLaughlin should check his back pocket to see if Lawrence Shankland is still in there - Jamie McKernon and Thomas Halleran worked well together in the middle of the park and David Hopkirk was a nuisance in attack. The whole team looked sharp and everyone put themselves about; I think there are a lot of positives we can take from tonight. I don't think Kyle Marley covered himself in glory, however. He was at fault for United's first goal, dropped two crosses and seemed unsure about collecting balls over the top. He made a great save from Shankland at the death but I don't trust him and I don't think his team-mates do either. I'm looking forward to seeing Graeme Smith back in the starting XI when he returns to full fitness. Kieran Anderson replaced Mark McGuigan for the final 25 minutes or so and looked alright. He's a big lad, that's for sure, and he did show some nice touches to link with Hopkirk, but he didn't really get involved too often and didn't have a sight on goal. Still! Good stuff all in. I've got a feeling Halleran will be a big player for us this season.
  18. Kieran Anderson has signed for the club. I hope he'll be a handy addition and I look forward to seeing what he can do!
  19. I'm sure Alan Cook has filled in a left-back at various points during his time at the club. Given we've got Aidan McIlduff and Marky Munro who can play there, I doubt we'll see him playing there much if at all this season!
  20. Kieran Anderson would be an interesting signing given the clamour surrounding him a couple of months ago - I'm sure I read Hamilton Academical and Falkirk had taken a look at him earlier in the summer. The only downside to him joining the club would be dealing with his idiot father online again.
  21. You seem to have overlooked the sentence where I said McKernon looked quite handy on the ball and played some nice passes. I don't think he's in an acceptable condition but the management team do, and that's the most important thing. I hope he's a success for the Warriors but I've never before seen a player showing up in that kind of shape.
