  1. It's not been confirmed that Greg Hurst has signed on, but he'd be a definite priority - he's really been excellent since he joined the club in January. I imagine Mark McGuigan will be relatively well paid, more so after the season he's having, and I'm sure it's been mentioned elsewhere on this thread but one of the sweeteners when he first joined the club in 2017 was the free use of the Ochilview pitch for his striker coaching. I think he quite likes playing for Stenhousemuir - the past two seasons have been the best of his career, certainly in terms of goals alone, the system we play is designed to get the best out of him, and he's adored by the supporters. I'm not naive enough to imagine Stenny has some kind of emotional pull on him but, at his age, there are a lot of factors to consider. I recorded a podcast with Grant Anderson last May and he spoke about how "football has to work for [him]" in relation to how it fits around his work commitments and family. He said when he was younger he went the extra mile to accommodate football in his life but now that he's older, it's the other way round, and playing for Stranraer suits him. That might well be the case with McGuigan and Stenny.
  2. I don't know about Greg Hurst but David Marsh has been signed up on a two-year deal. And why not!
  3. I see Cameron Breadner is playing for St Mirren's reserve side today - does this mean we're likely to see him back at Ochilview at some point soon?
  4. It all depends on how Brechin and Dumbarton do mid week. If they both lose, we should be fine but our next 4 games are against Raith, Airdrie, Forfar and East Fife Ah. Probably should have read the fixture list before being so bold. We've been rubbish against Raith Rovers and Forfar Athletic this season but we've beaten Airdrieonians in the last two meetings and we should have taken all three points from East Fife earlier in month. Hard, but doable.
  5. Five points behind Stranraer in ninth place with six games remaining. Is it too late for the Warriors?
  6. This is tremendous news. It crossed my mind that Mark McGuigan would be away at the end of the season, regardless of which division we finished ended up in. I actually thought Arbroath might fancy taking him on given how well he's done against them. Signing up the big man for the next two years is wonderful - he's been a brilliant player for us over the last two years and is probably the most important figure in the team. Everything we do is geared to get the best out of him. With Graeme Smith and Andy Munro contracted for next term, we have a solid spine to build on. Hopefully it's in League 1.
  7. Although it's pretty churlish to complain about Arbroath's season given how supremely well the team have played over the first three-quarters of the season, I can understand why supporters might have concerns about their recent form. They've taken on two of the poorest sides in the division in Dumbarton and Stenhousemuir and been comfortably turned over in both fixtures, without scoring a goal. If they lose to East Fife on Saturday and Raith Rovers beat Forfar Athletic, the gap between the sides becomes nine points, something that doesn't look as insurmountable as a single-digit figure. Of course, any time Arbroath have slipped up, so too have the Rovers, and they cannot be counted on to put together a convincing series of results. But with standards at Arbroath having been so high for the best part of the season, this recent dip is a little worrisome.
  8. Thanks again for the comments and the feedback. It's always interesting to read what we can do better going forward. I'd probably agree with the comments about the Alternative Timelines section about Albion Rovers and the Scottish Cup - it was brilliant fun to record and seemed to flow very well but it missed the mark on the show itself and came across as self-indulgent. Nevertheless, there's some great stuff coming up in episode three and I hope to see you all there!
  9. Cheers for all the comments about last night's show, it's good to read it got a decent pop. Be sure to tune in next week!
  10. Bobby Barr is very good on the latest episode of Lower-League Ramblings with Danny Denholm. I'd encourage all the good "Sons" to give it a whirl!
  11. It was! Make sure you're watching the new BBC Scotland channel at 11pm on Friday 1 March.
  12. That's a pain in the arse, he looked really handy during his 30 minutes against Montrose.
  13. Me too! I don't understand why "Alessandro" has to be so unpleasant to other people online, it is most unbecoming. Anyway, we signed young Cameron Breadner on loan from St Mirren until the end of the season. He's a winger, a position we've needed to add depth to, so that's something. He also scored this fine goal too:
  14. Not the worst transfer window in the world but not the best either. We strengthened our defence with the arrivals of Andy Munro and David Marsh (although it's quite funny that Marsh couldn't get a game for us in League 2 last season and now he's going straight into the starting XI) and we moved on Jesus Garcia Tena, who, God love him, was pretty rubbish. I thought we could have done with cover at right-back but credit to Alan Reid, he's been pretty handy in the last few games against Aberdeen and Airdrieonians, so there may be hope there yet. I'm looking forward to seeing what Greg Hurst can do up front. Other than Mark "Mr Goals" McGuigan, we haven't had much luck with strikers over the last two seasons so I hope he can make a contribution. We're still stodgy looking in the middle of the park - there isn't a lot of creativity there - and we could have added cover on the wings too but we're probably in a better position than we were this time last month.
  15. Is Jesus Garcia Tena one of our worst signings of the last five years? Yes, probably.
  16. Disc Potato's report on Greg Hurst doesn't fill me with confidence but let's take a look at him and see how he gets on. It's a bit puzzling we've now signed two forwards who featured for the two worst sides in the SPFL this season (Ryan Watters being the other one) but who knows, they might be alright. Other than Mark McGuigan, we haven't had a lot of luck with strikers this term.
  17. The club are announcing a new signing later today. Hopefully it's the world-class foil for Mark "Mr Goals" McGuigan we've been crying out for all season!
  18. As far as I know his contract is up. I imagine he'll have the pick of the part-time clubs in the summer.
  19. Has their been any talk at your end of McGuigan leaving? Heard we are after him. Absolutely no way. There is no chance the club would allow Mark McGuigan to leave this month. He's been our best player over the last two seasons and if he was to depart, it would have an enormous blow to our survival bid. Everyone associated with Stenhousemuir knows how important he is. Whether or not Montrose bid for him is another story but I do not think we would sell him.
  20. I didn't realise Bobby Vaughan had left the club. He was worth a punt given his record in Malta but he offered very little whenever I saw him on the pitch. I refuse to believe we will complete the transfer window without signing a striker (I am not counting Ryan Watters). The thought of anything happening to Mark McGuigan does not bear thinking about.
  21. Why is the Dumbarton FC Twitter account relentlessly pumping out information about former players' birthdays?
