To be honest, I wouldn't be opposed to Stevie Aitken coming into the club. Although his final six months at Dumbarton were pretty sour, he was excellent at this level with Stranraer and had them punching well above their weight before he moved to the Rock. Other than Aitken and maybe Tam Courts, I can't really think of anyone else at the moment. I'm really disappointed with this news - I think this has been the first time I've been upset by a managerial change at the club.
-
I'm astonished, I really didn't expect it. We're probably where most people expected us to be when the season started. Recent results haven't been great - and neither has the level of performance too - but it's a tight league and there's still a long way to go in the season. I don't get it. When Dumbarton emptied Stevie Aitken, only a thicko or someone who pays zero attention to the club had something to say about it, but anyone who knew what was going on agreed it was bang on. I don't know about this call.

Alright lads, I recorded a podcast with erstwhile Sons midfielder Scott Agnew. In the second part, he talks about his three years in the Championship with the club and talks about Ian Murray, Jack Ross, the wild turnaround in 2012/13, almost finishing in the play-offs the next year, and his move to St Mirren. He's been one of our best signings and was the man of the match in recent matches with Montrose and Forfar Athletic. He yelled "mon the Warriors!" when he was presented with his award in the Wee Bar after the Montrose game, which was very endearing, but I can't imagine his modest popularity would ever go to his head.

Not sure when you'll get the chance to use these graphics this season but fair play to you all the same.
-
He just seems to get on with it, to be fair to him. There was never a point last season when his position in the team really came under threat from Lewis McMinn, despite some grumbles on these forums. Dumbarton really should be looking to bring in someone they can rely on in January because Chris Smith (and Grant Adam and Robbie Mutch) are going to help propel them up the table.
-
Chris Smith is alright. Probably an upgrade on Grant Adam but I'm not sure he's good enough for League 1 - I wasn't all that upset when he left Stenhousemuir at the end of the season. He's a big unit and can command his area well, especially at crosses, and he's capable of pulling off extraordinary saves from time to time. However, his distribution can be poor and he's prone to making mistakes more often than he should - there were a few times last season where he cost us goals. Graeme Smith, our current #1, is a better goalie.

It's Kevin Rutkiewicz. -
There was no talk of targets but everyone there was generally upbeat about our chances for the season ahead. There was an acknowledgement that we should have taken something from the games against Raith Rovers, Airdrieonians and Arbroath (and that the performances against Forfar Athletic and Stranraer were unacceptable) but it's a solid team with depth, something we haven't had for a while, and the players seem to be enjoying themselves. Bomber said it's likely to be the most competitive division for some time with no obvious candidate to finish bottom.

Just back in from an entertaining our or so at the meet-the-manager forum at Ochilview this evening. Alongside Brown Ferguson was CEO Jamie Swinney, chairman Iain McMenamy and director Robert Beagley. It was an good discussion, although perhaps without the intrigue of other similar assemblies, and sparsely attended, with about 10 supporters there. Nonetheless, there were some salient moments - Bomber's favoured personnel, the difficulties in assembling a squad for the season ahead, the brinksmanship involved in dealing with players. He's such a fascinating guy to listen to, is Bomber, and the way he talks about the game is so interesting. I don't think I've ever heard him run out cliches, he always says something worth listening to.

The Queen's Park 2018-19 Thread
Francesc Fabregas replied to The Spider's topic in Scottish League 2 General Chatter
This might be of some interest to the good brothers: I was lucky enough to appear on a Scottish FA podcast alongside Andy Robertson yesterday and I got to ask him about his time at Queen's Park, playing alongside David Anderson and if the team should have won promotion in 2012/13. Certainly worth your time - CLICK. -

Matthew Elder has just tweeted Barry Smith has handed in his resignation. -
I might be one of the few that thinks this but I really like watching Kieron Gibbons play. He's really cute on the ball, always wants to take it in tight spaces, always wants to take it forward. There was a moment in the first half when we were under a bit of pressure and he collected the ball inside the penalty box, got his foot on it and calmly played his way out of danger. Some other players would just leather it but he was very cool. I know a lot of people won't trust him after his disaster against Brechin City but there's definitely a handy wee player in there. On another note, Kevin O'Hara looks the part and I'll be keen to see more of him as the season goes on.

All things Dundee FC
Francesc Fabregas replied to Mr Gandosaur's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
Hi lads, I enjoy recording podcasts with football players and I recorded one with erstwhile Dundee forward Sean Higgins. This is part two of the interview but he talks at length about his two years at the club, including Calum Melville, Leigh Griffiths, Jocky Scott, the administration, points deduction and the "Deefiant" side of 2010/11. All thoughts and feedback welcome. Leave an online comment. CLICK -

Hi lads, hope you're all well and you're pumped to see Harry Paton win you the division. Anyway, I recorded a bumper podcast with erstwhile Ross County hero Sean Higgins. In this first part, he talks exclusively about his seven years at Victoria Park. I'm sure you'll find something worthwhile in here. CLICK -
Forfar Athletic News 2018 onwards
Francesc Fabregas replied to Port Talbot Loons's topic in Scottish League 2 General Chatter
He's principally a right-back but he's filled in as a screening midfielder, a left-back and a centre-back in the past when needed. Pleased to read he's doing well enough so far.
