John McVeigh.... the invisible man. The phrase 'waste of a jersey' was surely coined for that charlatan.... being nominated right here on P&B probably ranks as his most positive contribution to the Falkirk cause. Think I need to re-visit my hapless 6 :-)

Never been able to u understand why we can't leverage our relationship with Ross Wilson at Southampton or our dealings with Swansea to get some really promising young loans in
^^^^^This. Has this ever been raised specifically at any fan forums? Baffles me also that we can't get any deals from either of these avenues, nor out of Houston's time along the road from Dennistoun, come to that.

Don't want to detract from the Luton bashing and to fill in time until crowd discussions get back up and running , I saw a few people discussing the Soccer Sixes tournament and reminiscing about the Tennents Sixes. Maybe been discussed previously but interested to see if an all time FFC 6 a side team was to be assembled who would make your starting team...players you have watched live in the flesh only.
Am waiting for a connection, so thought I'd have a bash at this, ANH -

5 clubs in 4 year when he left us, under 120 league starts and 34 league goals down south in 8 yr and been out the country in for the last 3yrs and scrambling for a club now suggests he hasnt quite had the highs he had in two seasons with us
And now apparently on trial at Inverness... Hope his best days are behind him.

It doesn't count because it's about your team
That's not at all what I said, GIG, is it?; Falkirk's shit result is one amongst a bucketload of shit results. I said Provan's opinion - that it be highlighted as particularly worse than (e.g.) Celtic's abysmal continuous run of around 20 Euro flops - doesn't carry any weight for me. Its not difficult. Or are you being p***kly because I happened to suggest some Hibs scores among some others in an alternative list?

I see the BBC website is once again listing our defeat to Vaduz over extra time and two legs as one of the worst results in Europe for Scottish clubs despite the fact that they actually play in the Swiss Premier League and are experienced European campaigners. In fact I see they thumped Bala Town of Wales 5-1 on aggregate last night.
Strangely no mention of Hearts being beaten over two legs, including at home by a Maltese opposition.
Lazy journalism at its worst.
I think it was the, er...entirely objective Davie Provan who first came out with that comment about the Vaduz result, completely deflecting from his beloved Celtic's record at that time of 1 win in 19?, 20? away games in Europe, which is beyond embarrassing for a team with such a high opinion of their perceived status and deserves far more pointing and laughing than any one-off cup-tie.
Falkirk lost in Europe, away from home, in extra time, that's the facts... But in among the worst few results, ever? Really not so sure about that... A brief random search on line shows, for instance, Hibs losing 0-7 Malmo, 1-5 Dnipro; Aberdeen losing 0-3 Sigma Olomouc, 0-1 Maribour; St Johnstone losing 1-5 Zeljeznicar, 0-2 Eskiselirspor... and so on... & of course there's a hilarious catalogue of other OF Euro humblings beyond the BBC list which are grubbing around in the gutter. The opinion of some half-wit agency journo or irrelevant Celtic apologist doesn't count for me.

I think that counts as a bite.

You wont win this one.
Ross County, ICT, St Johnstone, Hearts, Livvy, Hamilton, Gretna have all won this league in recent years having not the biggest support that season.
^^^^^ This...
And ironically, in those years when Falkirk won the League but weren't allowed promotion because of the perceived condition of Brockville, the continual argument - and rightly so - from our club and fans was "its what you do on the park that should count, not what conditions are like off it". Flinging around attendance figures as a yardstick against performance is missing the point spectacularly. I really wish our fans on here would drop the crowdw*nk stuff once and for all, its really, really tiresome.

Leaving aside the never-ending spouting of attendance figures - if only we could - its strange that non-Falkirk fans on here are so keen to make wee comments about "Falkirk's level" and our pre-season aspirations. (That's "aspirations", not predictions). In the 7 seasons we've been in the Championship, we've finished 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 5th, 2nd, and 2nd. So it looks like "our level" is to be pretty much in the mix. So yeah, I think its ok that our current aspirations are for a few decent signings to make a credible fight of it this coming season, given we finished second last time while playing pretty poorly for the most part. As was said above, a good few teams will fancy the challenge this time around, rightly so, and we should likewise be looking to perform to a better standard than we did. To date the club isn't offering anything like enough encouragement, and that's really nippy.

interested to read earlier that among your signing targets there's a need for "an out and out striker" and Loy would be "the biggest miss" - just curious to know where Loy played in your set-up, as I didn't remember him as an out and out striker, either for us or when he moved to Dens. Or come to that, when he played at TFS at the end of last season. Has he played a diff role?

Classic. Agree with Hedgecutter above that evening games at grounds with these big pylon lights were usually pretty memorable when I was a young 'un. Seeing the glow from miles away as the car/bus got nearer the ground always gave me a buzz, especially if it was raining... Except of course, not happily memorable at Dens, as we mostly got thumped.

I think Dens still has them too?

Remind me - What was the game at TFS where late in the game Scobbie jumped for a cross or a throw-in into our penalty area and caught the ball in mid-air?

You.coukd probably store this under the 'premature ejaculation' category but winning the league at home to morton on the 2nd last day of the season would be fucking glorious.
probably better stored in the 'book-marked' category.

The stat bunch of us will be pleased with St mirren away, they haven't won an opener since 2006 (stat from st mirren fan) and we haven't been beaten at the Jimmy Krankie stadium
Double jinx. Cheers for that.

so, given you monkeys are aspiring for top 4 this season, who is it you think you'll edge out from amongst the likely front-runners?

BPM I really hope your ITK is indeed ITK as in the last few days this saga has become bigger than Brexit.

Can't say I'm overly impressed with the Baird signing, bit of a journeyman on his travels but I'll wait and see how he progresses and I wish him well, considering where we are financially with a reduced first team squad and coming so late into the transfer market we can only piss with the cock we've got.
Overall was a good signing for us. Journeyman you say, but rattled in a very decent total for us in an excellent first season (with the bigger fish in the league), when his work rate & scoring were top notch; sadly in his second year the goal return dropped off badly. But never stopped harassing defenders and always looking to contribute. Made a pest of himself, in a good sense i.e. when he's in your team. Liked him & his attitude, wish him well, obv except for 4 games. Expect he'll get into double figures for you, and undoubtedly will score against us.

Maybe give the lad a chance, eh? He's just signed for a different team, playing a different system with different players etc etc. John Baird scored a total of 4, zero, 7 and 3 league goals respectively for his four previous clubs before he signed for us. Just sayin'...
In fact just to further add, I really don't remember everybody high-fiving each other when we signed some obscure French-Moroccan dude in 2011.

just to change the subject completely; am starting to wonder whether the coming season will, ironically, be more testing than the last couple, due to the number of teams who will genuinely fancy their chances of winning the league. Looks like no theoretical front runner type this time, but a handful of teams who could very well put a decent run together. Means looking for 3 or 4 other team's results on a Saturday, rather than just one or two. And to state the bleeding obvious, consistency is key.
If indeed, " the aim is simple - promotion" as the sales pitch says, then we need some big signings in the next month, and several of them at that.

Is that really the extent of the good guys? Depressingly poor show from the rest (including my own).
The Cowdenbeth response is spot on, particularly highlighting again how skewed in favour of the few the idea really is.
This is an ideal opportunity for our newly incumbent chairwoman to contribute to the debate, and give us an early indication of what sort of leader she intends to be.
