Can only think it was the fact we exited the league cup after failing to beat another team from the division and Falkirk progressed after beating one of the Premiership big guns. There's a minor case of doom and gloom at EEP just now as our second half against Alloa reeked of last season.
In all honesty, I don't think our LC campaign was all that bad, two comfortable wins, ran Ross Co close at Dingwall but the Alloa game was most recent and the worst. As a result it's taken the shine off what was a decent start and probably where this has came from.
I personally wouldn't have listed us as favourites. I think Queens have a better squad at the moment, and I think John McGlynn is a good manager at this level, that being said I'd take our squad over yours even if it's severely lacking depth. Sounds like we're close to one or two players coming in. McPake is being fairly cautious over signings, not just bringing in for sake of it which for the fans has been frustrating but I'm hoping it pays off in the long run.
The top four will have Airdrie, Dunfermline, Falkirk and QoS, I just don't know what order it'll be in.
Would say this is pretty fair. FWIW looks to me at the moment like Airdrie have better overall balance than the rest of us right now. Would have them shorter than 7/1, and certainly shorter than Kelty. Dunfermline look like a better attack, but (apparently) a weaker midfield; we have a better defence but a woeful attack. Wouldn't have us as favourites at this stage either. Loan market is clearly ultra-crucial to everyone!! Gonna make 17 September a fair indicator of our respective chances... (Wasn't it ever thus between us).

Edit to add just googled him for some, any, info - he's not tall is he? Not going to get on the end of many crosses (Farid style) from Kai Kennedy or Callum Morrison.
So, reviewing the straw clutching scenario, maybe McGlynn sees us playing with a John Baird type striker. That turned out ok for Raith, and us.

Well his is similar to El Alagui,am iclutching at straws?
Was thinking similarly. And just to add to the straw-clutching, everyone on p&b knew all about Farid when he signed up.
Where is the magic coin anyway? Let Alegria carry it around for a couple of days... then pass it on to Jaime Wilson. Now that really is straw-clutching.

I dont think it's an attitude to football problem with Morrison tbf. Keeps himself fit and trains well. He just seems to get frustrated on the park, largely due to having to play in our shite team and who can blame him?
He also needs to actually beat his defender more often; if that's what gets him frustrated, that he loses the ball far too often, far too easily, then I share his frustration.

Williamson will get injured at some point, that's a given. Possibly in the warmup.
Hopefully he'll be oot the door before any warm-ups. He's a liability.

OMG I feel ancient. Yeats looks about 12. Happy he's signed up though, fingers crossed he can build on his Killie showing against the rest of L1. Not going to be the dominant physical presence we need though, so needs plenty support - on the pitch, and from the stands.. Good luck to the lad.

Ugwu would be an excellent signing for this level. I was a little miffed we didn't keep him last season and with hindsight we should've kept him as his replacement, Ethon Varian, was severely lacking in the goal department.
Ugwu's key limitation is that he is slow. He has very good technique and control, and is an absolute unit of a man. Very difficult for CBs to deal with as he is stronger than them. Unfortunately this does mean he is liable to concede an annoying number of fouls, although often I felt the fouls given against him were unfair, and that he'd merely outmuscled the defender and hadn't done anything wrong.
Falkirk lacked a whole host of things last season, and one of them - in every single area of the pitch - was presence. Right through the spine of the team, we were far too lightweight, no dig, no energy, no effing heart. Sounds like Ugwu would at least be competitive, and that would be a welcome - and long overdue - change.

Hopefully working that DU connection for McGlynn to bring someone in on loan...

Does anyone actually know if Holt has got another gig? Haven't heard of him since he fucked off.
Wasn't he in the home tech area at the Killie v Arbroath title showdown?

SkyBet have us joint favourites with Dunfermline fwiw.
Still work to be done but getting promoted out of the league this season shouldn't require a "miracle". We are short going forward and lacking creativity as it stands but we should be relatively solid at the back and into midfield.
Williamson is a massive concern for me too if I'm honest I have no faith in him at all. Worryingly slow and you couldn't fit a fag paper under him when he jumps. We should be looking at other right backs as a priority imo.
I thought Williamson was shocking last Friday. Looked nothing like a professional athlete, lacking in every dept. Total liability.

As many have said 14 in midfield looks promising, & Mackie looks well comfortable. McCann & McGuffie linking up ok, but feck me Williamson is gash. Looks like Bambi on ice.

Defo has to be black shorts!!!Have to say the white shorts ruin it. Why are lots of teams seemingly getting this so wrong? Falkirk's navy navy and more navy effort is depressingly dull, and so far that's at least ours, DA, Alloa, ICT, Cove, Ayr, Partick all with new monochrome strips that are drawing mainly negative responses. Do I remember it correctly that this trend in fcuking up traditional team colours came from a FIFA directive for the USA World Cup?

That new sponsors logo on the kit is bowfin man
At least the blue looks like a proper shade of navy blue, and no sign of any pin stripes, or patterns with tyre treads, swirls, diagonals, hexagons, sparkles, etc etc...

I always felt they were different styles of winger too. Nevin very technical but did all his work in the opponent's half whilst crunchie would run all day for you and put in a shift every game. He'd also track back far better than Nevin ever did.
Nevin was a lightweight fidget. Fukim, the wee pseudo-intellectual avocado-eater.

Had a few beers to chill out after a busy day, so I might get shot down for this. But I can't help wondering if the legs could be Seb Ross?
He got very little gametime last year with only six starts, but in terms of doing the donkey work such as running about and putting in tackles I thought he was decent. He's already on the books so is at least worth looking at in the preseason games if not the cup ties.
first 4 words are the giveaway.
Too lightweight, too ineffective, too similar to too many others, too feckin meh. We need shot of all these soft as shit non-entities we've endured for far too long. Harsh but true. Oot ye go.

Gary Oliver fucking loves a goal against the Pars. I’m sure I counted them at some point last season and something mental like 20%* of his career goals are against us.
*completely random figure, but whatever the correct number is, it’s a ridiculous amount. Please don't jinx him with this sort of talk.

Has there been a bigger upgrade in the history of football than going from Steven Hetherington to Stephen McGinn?

Are QP ground sharing at Stennie? Is that confirmed?

Jamie Wilson is a very serious contender for a place in the all time worst Falkirk 11.
Sadly, woeful as he is, don't think he's close to that 11. Gary Miller & Hetherington, on the other hand...

So does this mean Broadwood will lie empty next season?

Rather enjoyed my time at the Falkirk stadium last time around. If we can replicate anything close to that demolition then I’ll be satisfied.
I thought that we’d fallen away in terms of quality of football over the last few weeks but we played some exceptional stuff against Alloa last week so maybe we’re back on form.
I can’t really tell what the result will be as we all know Falkirk can turn up if they want to but surely Airdrie have the quality and organisation to give them a tanking tomorrow.
Here’s hoping
Falkirk haven't turned up for the best part of three years. No, four years. No, 5... Anyway, we certainly won't turn up tomorrow.
You really could pick guys out the crowd who would be better options than Gary effing Miller or Bradley 'Diver's Boots' McKay.
Airdrie by a couple.

If this is the run-in, then just like our shitshow clown-shoes midfield we'll be left plodding about in a half arsed, slow-motion walking pace, out of sight at the back. We'll not be at the party.

Yogi is infamous for picking his teams based on who he hasn't fallen out with, not who would be the best for the team. Did it with us constantly. Huge ego maniac. The gloss has obviously worn off at EEP. You'll be hounding him out the door by Spring.

Not disagreeing with your take on it, I wouldn't know, but IF we only get in one more body then it could be 3rd or 4th at best for me, based on the 2 home games Clyde & Montrose. Clearly Donaldson, Mackie, McGinn & Yeats are a massive improvement, but we really badly need minimum of 3; a RB (Williamson is woeful, actually embarrassing for a supposed athlete); a creative midfielder; and a striker with a bit of presence/height/pace (realistically, someone like Ugwu)... Morrison, Nesbitt and particularly Hetherington still not producing nearly enough for us to actually win games, rather than not lose as often, or indeed as heavily, as last time out.
As McGlynn said post-Montrose, we've actually been on a decent run in terms of results & goals not conceded, so if that doesn't give confidence to some of the under-performers - who couldn't accurately pass the ball the length of themselves on Saturday - then you wonder what will. Saturday at Airdrie will be a big test...
