Ehm... yeah, maybe...
Anyway, shouldn't you be busy entertaining those multiple girlfriends of yours?
Their Xmas begins after they take their stockings down.

Got rejected from a nightclub last night for not knowing the emergency contact details at the back of my passport. What the f**k is that all about?
They've probably heard that there's a good chance that you'll drown in your own pish !

My dad is a socialist. He thinks Thatcher would not have went as far as she did if Scargill wasn't being such a c**t.
See "Auchinleck...the worst town in Scotland ?", posted in February on the Junior Forum.

Sunset Song for Uni. Quite good, better than the other books we've had to read (e.g. Waverley)
Good stuff, first book of an excellent trilogy. If you like it , then you'll enjoy, " The Land O The Leal", by James Barke .

Poe is indeed a master of this genre, I particularly enjoy "The Gold Bug"...but for me , the short stories of O'Henry are hard to beat.
Try his " 58 Short Stories", with his experiences in La Salle County, and Austin, Texas, contained under the "Heart of the West" part of the book, while "The Voice of the City" and " The Gentle Grafter" sections contain the tales based on his life in New York.
An excellent insight to life in early 20th. century America....enjoy !....
If you don't have anything to read just now and fancy a very short story that you can read online, then google " To build a Fire". It's a tale from the Klondyke by Jack ( White Fang and Call of the Wild ) London.
Wrap up warm and enjoy.

Incorrect. The original number goes back to the DVLA when you put a private plate on it. When you remove the private plate the DVLA will issue you with the original number plate if it is still available (which it almost always is). If it isn't they will issue you with a random one of the relevant age.
Edit: Just to point out, this system is just to ensure that they don't run out of number plates in extreme situations. Most likely you will get the original registration back.
You will certainly have the original registration number returned as this is never allotted to any other vehicle. The time to have this done should not exceed 14 days, and can be done much quicker if you visit the relevant DVLA office.

When you remove a private number plate from a car does the original number go back on the car by the dvla?
When the private plate is removed, the car must be re registered with the DVLA using the original number.

It is indeed. Edgar Allen Poe is also a master of the short story.

thinking about reading "the triumph of the sun" by willber smiith. Anyone recommend it?
Wilbur Smith is the H. Rider Haggard of the 20th./ 21st centuries, and most of his reviews have at least one "rattling good read" comment.
His books are adventure/romance on a grand scale and are really good and easy reading. The problem is that quite a few have developed into family sagas...The Courtneys, The Ballantynes etc., so it's best to start at the beginning of these tales and as I don't know if the book you mentioned is in this category, it might be best to check.
Good reads of his that "stand on their own", are "Dark of the Sun"...a mercenary tale compares quite well with Forsyth's "Dogs of War", ..also,"The Sunbird", "Eagle in the Sky", and "Goldmine", a story good enough to withstand the wooden Roger Moore in the movie version !
Or you could kick off way back at the beginning with "When the Lion Feeds".
Happy reading !!

Tempted to buy "the gulag archipelago" by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn........is it worth reading?
Yes, I recommended it on here a few weeks ago....also try his much shorter, "One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich"...which is also about life in the Gulag .

I finished the Sportive Ride in bang on 6 hours cycling time with a 15 minute break in the middle so I reckon my time in The Sun on Tuesday will show about 6hrs 20 mins or so.
The first 40 miles were the most brutal I have cycled, driving rain, into the wind on very exposed and often very poor condition roads. The next 30 miles were a bit hillier - there was one brute of a hill which I had to push the last 50 yards of but was quite happy as many others had to push from the bottom!! It truly was a stonker, I thought I had conquered it, got to the top to find it switched back for another 100 yards and my legs caved in eventually.
The last 30 miles was a bit of a sprint to the end, finishing by going through Murrayfield was awesome, can't wait to see the photos, there will be one of me going halfway up that brute of a hill still cycling at the time! The photos going through Murrayfield should look great with the stands behind you.
Well done to all who took part, regardless of your time you will have got there and that's what counts.
If we all stay on thread for the next year or so it would be great to do the Sportive together to give you guys something to work to.
As the guy on Eurosport cycling would say, Chapeau ! to all you guys....great efforts, particularly in today's conditions .
Hopefully you will recover in time to watch the 1st stage, Peebles/Dumfries, of the Tour of Britain on ITV4 at 7pm. Again, well done !

i've been wanting to read this for a while but i'm always a bit wary about starting huge books. i've read moby dick, 2666, gravity's rainbow, and the kindly ones over the past couple of years and it's intense reading 900 page efforts. i've got a few doorsteps in my to read pile as well, i bought life and fate by vassily grossman without realsing it's an absolute brick. i think thomas mann and tolstoy are going to have to wait.
also i totally agree about the great gatsby. definitely a novel everyone should read, i don't think i've ever heard a bad word said about it. anyone who enjoyed it should try the sun also rises by ernest hemingway. it's so i good i named myself after it.
Ok, for a more manageable read try Solzhenitsyn's, "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch".It's based on the author's experiences in the Gulag prison system, and is so atmospheric you'll want to wear some warm gear while reading it !
