Interesting how many people have automatically linked this to boozing. Not judging, it was my first thought too, but i wonder how many other nations would make that connection automatically and not think it was between say, eating in/ eating out or telly vs cinema.

It's a very Scottish epidemic. Since sobering up the only things that will have me out of the house after 10/11ish would be the odd poker tournament at the local casino, a gig, or a late showing down at the pics. Pre-wagon, I'd be out a lot just for the sake of it sometimes. Genuinely struggle to comprehend it nowadays especially given the cost involved, doubly so if you're not in/around an urban centre.

  2. Funny how times change, 10-15 years ago a game against Peterhead was always a nailed on 6-0 drubbing, now they can barely lay a glove on us. They look a complete rabble, and McKenzie kept the score down in all honesty.

Finally saw a bit of what caught the manager's eye regarding Machado today, but not too much else to get wildly excited about, bank the win, next. Refresh for us in July, absolute wrecking ball rebuild for them.

  3. My thoughts for all they're worth (very little, probably) ATM:

Lennox - offski, Matthews can stay as #2, get McKenzie back. Experienced, knows the league, knows the place, and still good for 2 years I'd think. Probably wouldn't touch the defence provided the new RB stays fit, though if someone offered £ for Allan, I'd maybe take it and use a loan for cover. Midfield - needs ripped up. Callaghan, Milne, Whatley, see you later. Wouldn't be upset if Gardyne went but someone has to be willing to buy out his last year. Watson is borderline, but would keep on as squad player for one more year. 3/4 new faces, including a loan or two. Up front, 50/50 at best on keeping McAllister. If you could get Hester instead would rather take that, and in that scenario would go for Hilson if the Smokies were inclined to let him away. Add one more on loan, and job probably done.

Montrose seem to be in a strange situation. They’ve had what seems like the same squad since they came up, with a couple of additions and departures every summer, and last seasons play-off might have been the last chance for this cycle. The McAllister gamble hasn’t really worked out and while none of them were disastrous today, the likes of Dillon, Masson, Webster, Whatley, Watson etc. are all another year older and not quite at the levels they were a couple of seasons ago. No one can deny that Petrie has done a great job at Montrose but I think the next couple of seasons will be a big test for him. He might need to replace six or seven key players over that time, something he hasn’t really been able to do so far, and I’m not convinced Ryan Williamson playing 15 games a season will be the answer.

Wasn't there today but unsurprised by most of this. The sqaud isn't bad at all, but has been imbalanced most of the season without a RB and the middle of the park has been inconsistent, hence McAllister not getting everything on a plate. Mathematically we're still alive but realistically our season was done last Saturday and IMO it's now 5 friendlies for some of the fringe players (Milne, Whatley etc) in the last chance saloon to get a deal. At this moment in time, I'd be punting most of them, and I'm still not convinced by McAllister TBH.

Wouldn't mind seeing you lot go up, especially if it's at Lolkirk's expense.

See nobody had any recommendations for food. Nobody could even be bothered posting a match thread.

I know there is a disconnect between the club and long-time supporters like Tam the Bam but really would have expected more interest in a match which is still not a complete dead rubber - although the result was probably bad for both teams in terms of having any hope of making the playoffs on their current form.

Turned out I didn't have time to stay and grab a bite so no loss.

Very 'meh' game in a really poor stadium. Not quite as awful as I thought, but still unacceptable at this level. Draw probably about right on balance, neither team quite good enough to win. Think that finally nails our season shut, and even if Edinburgh finish 4th I don't think they'll threaten in the playoffs.

    Meh.

  6. Congrats Pars. Barring an utter Morton job, that's the league done.

I thought Dunfermline looked fairly unflustered for around an hour and made a total arse of our backline several times, only to somehow stop playing for the last 15/20 minutes and almost let us back in. If we'd pinched a second in that flurry we had going forward, I'm fairly sure we'd have squared the game. I hope SP plays the XI that finished the game next Saturday rather than the one that started it, because we looked far better after the subs. Machado has done enough to get a start, and Lyons needs to go back in.

If only we'd actually had a RB this season......

Can't mind where it was said but the club pushed for it to be tonight only for Montrose to insist it be played tomorrow. As the home club they have the final say.

Probably calculating that the move isn't worth it regarding shifting hospitality I'd suspect. I'd have personally preferred tonight - don't think we've had a Friday nighter since the Elgin game that nearly got fogged off (also before a Scotland game IIRC).

The Bervie Chipper (it's actual name, so deal with it) used to regularly win UK fish & chip awards despite it not even being the best chipper in Bervie (locals in the know would go to the Hornblower* just down the hill)

*Now the Quayside, but no longer as good.

If I've heard right, the BC is now Indian owned and does a cracking curry.

Pedantry alert, but Hornblower is in Gourdon - only dined once when I lived there and got food poisoning.....

Booked and ready for Jim Jeffries (the Aussie one), in Edinburgh next month, and really looking forward to that.

I saw Jeffries at the Lemon Tree around 2009 I think - one of the most savage 75/80 minutes I've seen from anyone. Madelene McCann jokes at a time no-one would dare touch it IIRC.

Don't tend to go to muchoff my own back nowadays, usually the missus picks them now. I think Gary Meikle in May at the Music Hall is next.
