  1. It is occasionally mentioned but far too little attention is being paid to the disgraceful level of unemployment among 5 to 12 year olds, due to the ridiculous health and safety restrictions on them working in mines, up chimneys and crawling around under looms. When, oh when, oh when will the government DO SOMETHING about it!?
  2. Better make sure it's the right way up. Folk get stroppy if it's not hanging properly.
  3. Hang on... You mean it's possible for politicians to be elected without bending over and spreading them for gun manufacturers? Even more reason for Americans to doubt that Canada actually exists and think that it's just a made up country in a commie comic.
  4. Good question. My thoughts would probably focus on the fact that Thatcher couldn't hold the support of her own party so it would be hard for the party workers to convince the voters. When Major came in, is it not the case that most folks' reaction was "errrrmm.... Who?"
  5. To be fair, you have to hand it to the Tories. They are steadfastly loyal to the leader right up to the point when they think he or she won't win, then they chuck aside that leader like a dud betting slip. These polls are showing Labour ahead if there was a general election today. If there was a general election today, a new leader would have been in place for at least 6 months and there would just have been a tax-cutting budget.
  6. I'm making no predictions for the weekend. Too many unknowns, especially over injuries. Even assuming we win tomorrow! Having said that, if we get to the weekend and pump Wales rotten, I'd regard that as a brilliant few days.
  7. I really don't think that there's any reason to quibble about what is or is not material for the. w**k fest. The whole jubilee bollox with its limited edition one eighth sovereign coins including, bizarrely an oddly shaped one, featuring Queen Victoria (from Tristan Da Cunha), flags, tea towels, cardboard cut outs etc etc ad utter fekkin nauseam IS a w**k fest. Sycophancy and "I know my place", on steroids.
  8. What he and his wife do in the privacy of the boudoir is a matter for their own better judgement.
  9. I wonder which story most of the good people of the relevant area will be more interested in?
  10. Nah, you're alright. (FYI, not all those who would prefer not to have a monarchy are "seething" . )
  11. I haven't seen the figures, but given that the usual Tory mantra is usually along the lines of 'pay off debt, save and invest' British governments over the duration of the exploitation of North Sea oil and gas have been acting like lottery-winning alkies at a beer festival.
  12. I'm trying to find out if, according to the bookies, there is a better chance of Hearts winning the Europa league than there is of Jo Swinson being PM but I haven't found odds for the Jambonians yet.
  13. Can't think why... He's one of their most vocal supporters.
  14. As I understand it, the NRA banned guns from their conference. Kind of odd that they seemingly trust the average Joe in the street more than they trust their own members.
  15. You're surely not suggesting that the Republicans in congress don't have empathy or sympathy for the victims of mass shootings? Why, as they sit there in their churches, I'm sure they think of little else. Anyway, the voters get the politicians they vote for. As long as the electorate are content to vote for these anti-gun control politicians, they are actually more guilty than the politicians who are only doing what their voters seem to want.
  16. Just as well that Ministers aren't responsible for the actions of civil servants... oh, no, wait a minute...
  17. That's fine as long as there's also moves made to start up the "Tartan Gonk Protection League" to help those suffering from mental torment arising from the verbal diarrhea that emanates from the wider gammonrati.
  18. True enough, but sympathy without action amounts to nothing of substance. I dare say that the Republicans in the senate have had sympathy for the victims of mass shootings.
  19. I think the issue is that when folk think they are praying about something they are under the impression that they are "doing" something. The only conceivable benefit is that they are making THEMSELVES feel better. It's obviously up to the American electorate, but I'm pretty sure that those in favour of gun control would prefer millions more votes for candidates favouring gun control than 10 times that number sending utterly pointless thoughts and prayers.
  20. Ah yes, "the happiest days of your life" as authority figures used to call them.
  21. The absurdity of the "thoughts and prayers" BS can be pretty easily spotted. When has anyone ever heard one of these disaster charity appeals on TV ask for viewers "thoughts and prayers" and not mention money? Why is it, that in any situation where some form of actual action is required, thoughts and prayers are not mentioned? Paul O'Grady seems to want cash for the cats and dogs at Battersea; oddly, thoughts and prayers never come up. Trump didn't ask his supporters for thoughts and prayers when he lost the election. Politicians seemed pretty keen on a vaccine when covid started. Maybe prospective Republican candidates should just ask their supporters for thoughts and prayers and tell them to keep their cash in their pockets?
  22. They should do a duet. The world needs something to remove from the record books the present holders of the "Worst Recording in History" award, presently held by Arthur Mullard and Hylda Baker since 1978 for the track "You're the one that I want". (Warning.... Those of a nervous disposition should not under any circumstances research that 1978 abomination.)
  23. You think that everyone hates "us" now? If we beat Ukraine this week the UN will vote to nuke us from orbit.
  24. I don't subscribe to the particular conspiracy theory, but if they run out of jubilee tea towels, they could try to source Jurassic Park ones to issue instead.
