The invalid pick I mentioned yesterday was for Harvey Price. I thought he fell under both categories.

I was thinking today about who would actually, genuinely qualify as "famous" for being ill. Deborah James you could argue has her podcast and her column and her fundraising. Is anyone who is terminally ill going to be famed for that unless they publicise it somehow? I think the closest I could think of was the Elephant Man and we're quite past that as a society.

I can see a new Lauren Hill rule coming in, purely to save myself the headache of trying to work this out (and it not being fair on people hedging their bets on whether someone qualifies or not).

The perks of 'high office' mate, things evolve. Its a good job P&B is populated by balanced and reasonable types who will understand your position........

    It's a tricky one.

On the one hand, it's harsh to say she's only famous for being ill, rather that she has used her illness to tirelessly campaign and raise money for charity, and has become famous as a result. From that point of view, she isn't really that different from anyone else that becomes famous for charitable work.

On the other hand, I didn't pick her, so I don't think anyone should get any points for her.

While I'm not going to get bent out of shape either way, she was on my 'very' shortlist but I didn't pick her because she was only famous for being ill. A 'Mail Online' obsessed wife put me straight. She was a teacher who got cancer and then started the blog etc on the back of that. The only reason she has any renown (for lack of a better way of putting it) is because of her podcast about her cancer and it picked up from there.

Did anyone have Capt. Col. Lord Sir Tom of the NHS regt. a few years back?  Surely he was only famous for being on his way to the big Officers Mess in the sky.

    What happened in that scenario?

He was old and relatively low hanging fruit, he was going to go sometime, its like googling 'oldest person in the world' and putting them in your team or even picking the Queen or the Chooky Embra, you know they're obit worthy and more likely to die than (for example) Meghan Markle. Captain Tom didn't have anything wrong with him as such, just a famous old fecker. I've got some obscure old folk on my long list, purely because they're old and nobody else is likely to pick them but I've got no idea of their health as they're not famous enough for anyone to give a crap but they would get an obit. That's the gamble, we're all going to go at some point, the knack is to get the most points from them.

I feel for Miguel here, he's going to get it tight either way, not from me I hasten to add. Tin hat time for Miguel.....

Just been announced by CricketAustralia that Shane Warne's cremation will be held in England as it's the only chance they have of getting their hands on the Ashes.

    (Coat etc.,..........)

A full state funeral for Warne is some tribute for any sportsman.

Is it not in honour of his shagging then ??

Obviously a shame for her to lose her son but he'd be ineligible for this thread on 2 counts.

Mum on the other hand....... she's been on my long list for a while, what with being a total fruitloop and that.

The 'Picks' sheet, and, particularly, the 'N' column is exactly what you're after.

Edit: To make it even easier, you can check out your own section of the 'Players' sheet and column J. I might remove it later if it makes the sheet too slow.

Thanks for doing the spreadsheet mate. Looks like there are quite a few of us who have 'dared to be different' and pick a lot of solo shots. As the resident stato (and if you know) is there a higher proportion of solo shots this year than in the past.

Scanning this morning's papers online, this shocking and depraved article jumped out.  P & B has a clone of sorts elsewhere 😉

    https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/weird-news/sick-deathlist-predicts-queen-die-25772887

I don't think this is the first year that an article like that has appeared, I recall the faux outrage that some 90 year old or other had been picked to die. Its ok to gush over them when they go of course but to speculate on their deaths...... Ist Verboten !
