Since the peak days of English hooliganism I've been listening to a narrative from the media that young guys+bevvy must inevitably =trouble. I just don't buy that. I've been on too may drink soaked Tartan Army trips, where drink is the number one theme, and you see guys who are absolutely blootered for the whole duration, but without the slightest sniff of trouble. Over and over again. You need dickheads to be part of that equation too.

Just reading Danny Baker's Twitter. He's not far wrong I'd suggest. Including about the crowd tonight. This Engand run has had a whif of Emperor's New Clothes about it, for me.

Right up ye to the guy who called me a sweaty sock at Green Park station after the Euro 96 game.

1-0 to Feyenoord, assuming the picture is from the home leg. It probably is the home game judging by Cruyff's wet looking fringe, it was pishing that night. http://www.stmirrenprogrammes.co.uk/StMirren/STM_Match_Details.php?Season=1983&GameID=198309140 -
To be fair, it was bedlam further back. You'd never guess how packed the terracing really was if you'd only seen that TV footage of the section at the front politely applauding. I remember having this exact same conversation in school, in the days after the game, about the sedate TV celebration footage bearing no resemblance to what we'd experienced further back on the terracing.

All time points totals in the Premier era
Dirty Sanchez replied to Swello's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
I'll swear on anything that the following is true, and actually occurred. As I was typing that post I actually thought that someone might respond with "And if your auntie had balls she’d be your uncle". But then I quickly dismissed the idea on the premise that no one's patter here would be that rank. Very next post. -
All time points totals in the Premier era
Dirty Sanchez replied to Swello's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
I had a look at that. The totals are spot on when you put the pointer at the end of any season when the team in question were actually playing in the Premier. The points we're picking up during the 90s are just building up to the total being right at the end of 2000/01. It's skewed against sleeping giants like us who won more in the 2 points for a win era. If they'd used 2 points for a win for the whole chart we'd have 58 points more than St Johnstone. 3 points for a win for the whole period would give us 88 points more than them. -
League Reconstruction 20/21 season
Dirty Sanchez replied to Sinner-to-Saint's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
And that domination has massivey increased during the modern (early 90s onwards, money) era. I was looking at this recently, and whilst they've obviously always dominated the trophy count, there hasn't always been the yawning points chasm between them and everybody else. E.g. up to Rangers going bust, the Old Firm had finished as the top two for 16 of the previous 17 seasons. In contrast, in the previous 100 seasons, they only finished as the top two 30 times, so it was hardly the forgone conclusion that it is now. Of course, during the same period the gap between the Old Firm and the top teams from the big leagues around Europe has followed the same pattern, so it's got infinitely duller for everyone. -

I was at this game. Celebrity All Stars v Queens Park , 21st May 1999. Rod Stewart was playing as well. It was the first game played after Hampden re-opened following redevelopment. Presume at least part of the reason it was held was as a trial event for the new set up prior to the Scottish Cup Final the following Saturday. -
To be fair, that Morton team equalled a Premier League record that day, which no one has come close to achieving again since then. They became one of only two teams who have ever conceded 100 (one hundred) goals in a Premier League season. The other team to do it before them was, of course, Morton again during their previous crack at the top flight.
