  1. You don’t need to spend the whole £1000, a lot of retailers are now selling their 2018 models with substantial discounts and using the cycle to work schemes that your employer may have means that you can get up to a 42% discount as the monthly payment is taken off before tax. You can also get accessories as well with that. The first year I did it I bought a Giant MTB from Paul’s cycles for about £500 and it ended costing me about £300 all in all.
  2. Depends on your budget, are you looking to use one of the many cycleschemes out there as there are some great bargains around the £1000 mark at this time of year.
  3. I wonder who the new poster “the new Kia Ceed” is and why he’s visiting the cycling forum!! Out today and 30 miles done with the shoulder feeling better, no Strava records broken today though.
  4. I did the 10 mile Pedal for Scotland with my 8 year old son as he wanted to do it with me and I know that my shoulder definitely wouldn’t have held for the 100 miler. A really good turn out and good to see so many families out today. The only problem is that I’m really in the mood for a long cycle now after that warmup!
  5. I was hoping for my shoulder to be sorted by this weekend for the full Pedal for Scotland cycle but unfortunately it’s still causing a lot of pain so I’ll just cycle with my son who’s doing the 10 mile event. He’s looking forward to finishing up at the RHS and getting his first participation medal. Hopefully my shoulder will be sorted for velodrome season, crap year so far for me with regards to the bike.
  6. It’s always nice to have a new obsessed fan/stalker, I’ve been missing my pet PBs online persona and one trick comebacks!
  7. I see this one is doing the rounds again on Facebook
  8. The threat of losing out on the North American trip was enough for them to send money out and arrange for the rest his clothes to be send out. Wasn’t cheap but the North American trip involves 2-3 weeks staying at Nellis AFB just outside Vegas sharpened their minds.
  9. Squadrons can be busy places, when I asked them why they didn’t pull the plug earlier they claimed they were called away etc. Didn’t really wash with myself or the WO and the punishment was decided and to be reviewed once it was resolved.
  10. It didn’t really add anything to the story apart from the punishment they were going to receive if they didn’t sort it out. This sort of behaviour used to be quite regular in civil aviation until workplace pranks were cracked down upon. I’ve seen one engineer sent out to the rigs to rescue an aircraft and his overnight bag tampered with.
  11. Thankfully left the mob several years ago. Would you not say it is foolish to leave your luggage about? I would say mischievous would be an acceptable term as they probably didn’t think it would go as far as it did.
  12. Didn’t say it was funny as this thread is about workplace bams and that is pretty bam behaviour, needless to say the culprits were identified and told to rectify the situation.
  13. We had a guy bring his girlfriend into the squadron building to try and impress her on their way to Aberdeen Airport and foolishly left their suitcases in the crew room. Some of the more mischievous technicians swapped the contents of his suitcase for manky overalls, small chock and general crap. He didn’t discover it until he got to his destination and I only found out when he phoned my office about 3 hours after he landed so he could put in a complaint!
  14. That’s good to hear, I’ve not really used it much in anger yet as it was bought primarily for cycling with my kids. I was toying between new bike or upgrading the front forks. I did have a plan to convert it to a 1x11 which has also been put on hold due to my injury.
  15. At the open day they usually have the team bikes for sale at huge discounts. I quite fancy seeing if I can bag one this year. The Aria might have to take a bit of a backseat as I’m heading back north for work and I’ve been told there is a bit of a MTB scene with the guys there. My Merida Big-Nine might not cut it!!
  16. Unfortunately the Bianchis that are in the deals are 55 and I need a 57. I’m recovering from a torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder so haven’t had much saddle time so it looks like I’ll end up waiting for the November open day to bag a bargain.
  17. New to this thread as I’m very much a beginner and trying to learn about apertures and shutter speeds etc. I get the odd picture which I’m very happy with and hopefully this week, as I’m up in Skye, I might get one or two that I’ll be happy to post on here. Great thread and some great advice on here!
  18. I’m pretty sure they are online https://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/leisure-sport-and-culture/sport-and-fitness/sports-events/the-great-inverurie-bike-ride/
  19. Anyone doing the Suie Classic/Great Inverurie run this weekend. I’m just doing the 25 miler as I’ve to chaperone my mate who is still in rehab after his stroke. Very little training since Loch Ness as I stupidly thought that a game of 5-a-side would be a good idea and injured my knee after 10 minutes! I decided it was time to announce my retirement from football shortly afterwards!
  20. Here at C.A.S.T. we support the advice given by the police of 1.5m clearance but also advise that cyclists be courteous and considerate to other road users. After all how important is the journey that anyone has to be impatient.
  21. All of us here at C.A.S.T. like to keep our bikes in tip top condition so we are happy to promote bike maintenance classes. https://www.edinburghbicycle.com/info/cycle-maintenance-and-wheel-building-classes/
  22. Another weekend of glorious sunshine and with weather like this it warms the hearts of all of us here at C.A.S.T. to see so many cyclists out on the road enjoying the weather. After a great weekend of closed road cycling at Etape Loch Ness, Tour of Yorkshire and the Giro D’Italia hopefully this will continue throughout the summer. Any questions on how we promote cycling in Scotland please get in touch with your local C.A.S.T. representative! Chapeau!
