3-5-2 (maybe slightly different) with McGuffie LWB and Williamson RWB. Miller and Telfer in midfield combining brilliantly with Keena up top. Morrison looked to be roaming. Weathered a storm first 10 then hammered Fifers all the way to HT. CBs looked to be on a dribbling ban and it worked well. Lemon still not ready but we hit the post, Mehmet for Fifers made 2/3 great saves. Changes rung at 55 minutes or so just after they equalised but up until then we looked stronger defensively. Everyone had clearly defined roles. They knew what to do and didn't look like conceding often. Complete opposite from what we've seen all season. Headless chickens not having a clue to actually looking like a team. Hetherington there but not playing or part of subs. Not sure if he's injured

Don't fancy Mcguffie as the left wing back but hopefully that's just because Mccann is out either injured or with covid. Was there any trialists playing?

There are 7 subs. Krasniqi is obviously not fancied at all. What a stupid, stupid signing he has been.

Hopefully Rennie can get a tune and some effort out of this mob.

Could have Covid or be out injured. Or he may have returned to Huddersfield with Grainger leaving us.

What an awful analogy. Morrison taking penalties or pies being cold does not have anything to do with who spends the money people are parting with. If people are concerned that the money they put in will be used by Holt, then of course that's a reason to hold off until clarified. Awfully early for you to be on the sauce already but I suppose its Christmas.

Quite enjoyed the "= connoisseur of crayons" though.

I think it's crucial that we have Dixon back for this. No matter what form he's in, we simply can't afford to have a McKay/Hall/Lemon combo at the back. Personally I'd go with a back three of Miller, Dixon and Lemon. Lemon would get more help from Dixon than he did when playing beside Hall and Miller may just prove to be marginally better than Hall or McKay in a 3.

Getting a better right sided CD in in January remains a priority however.

BPM said Dixon needs surgery on his wrist so no idea how long he'll be out for, on that basis the 3 at the back gives me the fear as at least two of Miller/Mckay/Hall would be playing.

Was Hetherington suspended against Cove or just left out completely?

Rennie's only got two days to have a look at them in person so it'll be very interesting to see the team and formation he goes with.

    Martin
    Williamson Hall Lemon Mccann
    Krasniqi
    Morrison Weekes
    Telfer
    Keena Ruth

  5. Actually took me until now to find out you had employed Stevie Crawford as manager. Really nice bloke, had the pleasure of meeting him when he was the Falkirk assistant manager under Pressley so I hope he does well(after Saturday of course)

Should hopefully be our first viewing of how Rennie wants us to play, covid test dependant. He'll only have a couple of training sessions before Saturday so I'm not expecting miracles but hopefully he can get more out of our squad than Sheerin did.

  6. On a positive note it's good to hear them talking about improving the spine of the team as it's badly needed. A right sided centre back to play in beside Dixon when he's back fit, two centre midfielders and a striker to play up top with Keena/Ruth or Dowds when he's back. The feedback I'd heard from the meeting was that Rennie already has targets in mind which will hopefully mean Holt has bugger all to do with the selection process.

Due to the format, everyone will have come away with a slightly different impression of what was said. There were individual tables, and the Board members split up, and spent a bit of time at each table. It worked well as a format, but of course, everyone’s experience was slightly different.

I was sat with a guy called Scott, and we were the only two at that table. We had Keith Gourlay, then Jaimie Swinney, then Kenny Jameson, Gordon Wright, and a few moments with David White.

The elephant in room was of course, Gary Holt. I think every table voiced concerns to varying degrees, but a repeated message was that the Board accept and believe in the model, but were keen to get across the message that he didn’t involve himself in first team duties at all, and has absolutely no desire to do that.

There were hints that the “better players” were Holt’s signings before Sheerin arrived, but Sheerin was responsible for many of the signings thereafter……,and not just Ruth. Sheerin simply could not transfer from the training ground to the pitch and was (as we all know) unwilling to try new things, and stuck by players regardless of performance.

No leaders on the park, too few players getting involved when we don’t have the ball. It’s the “transition” thing from having possession, losing possession and regaining possession that has been highlighted by Rennie (and Rice tbf). That actually goes back to Pep’s mantra at Barca, Bayern and Man C which was once possession was lost, he wanted it back within 6 seconds, or he wanted it out of play. We don’t have the players prepared to do that, and the plan is to (hopefully) bring in a four man spine with leadership abilities as well as footballing abilities.

Up close and personal, these guys are night and day compared to what has done before, and while inexperienced, every one of them came across as quick learners. I didn’t sense there being any bad apples in the room…..quite the opposite in fact.

Listed the new signings from the summer below and who was most likely responsible.

    Paddy Martin?
    Luke Holt - Holt
    Ryan Williamson - Holt*
    Brad Mckay - Holt*
    Mackenzie Lemon - Academy
    Leon Mccann - Holt/Sheerin
    Cammy Williamson - Academy
    Steven Hetherington - Holt*
    Seb Ross - Sheerin
    Aidan Nesbitt - Holt*
    Ben Weekes - Academy
    Ernaldo Krasniqi - Grainger
    Craig Mcguffie - Holt*
    Declan Mcdaid?
    Sammy Ompreon - Sheerin/Grainger
    Jaime Wilson - Sheerin
    Michael Ruth - Sheerin

*Players Holt signed on pre contracts before Sheerin was in the building.

Looking at the list I don't think you can possibly say Holt's recruitment was good before Sheerin started picking donkey's as Holt signed Mcguffie, Hetherington and Brad Mckay before Sheerin was in the door. Not to mention he resigned Ben Hall. No question that Sheerin is also culpable as he had the final say on a lot of the rest of the players but essentially Holt's remit was to put forward the players to Sheerin so the blame lies fully at his door.

Absolutely incredible that he's seemingly managed to side step the blame for recruitment considering he was employed in the main to improve our terrible recruitment process.

Anyone know the time frames for MR?

When he is going to start or do media, will he be in charge on Saturday?

Going by what has already been said on here he arrived in the country today and as long as his PCR is negative then he'll start on Thursday, therefore I'd imagine he'll be in charge on Saturday.

This message reeks of failure and mediocrity.  You and your pals are in charge of the club now, its time to step up and lead us out of this mess.  As yet we have had no statement of intent from the new Bod, no chairman has been appointed, we've had an utterly bizarre managerial announcement late on Friday.  The appointment itself is absurd, we've plucked a guy from assisting the Notre Dame womens team, a guy who doesnt know the team, the league, possible transfer targets etc and we're basically now relying on Gary Holt to identify players.  The fact we've given him a 6 month deal also shows that the new BoD dont have full faith in his abilities.  The fans have no idea when he is due to start either but I'm assuming it's the end of this week, which means he'll only have a days training with them.  Throw in the fact that the players xmas party must have been sanctioned by the BoD and the revelations from loser Grainger that we only train twice a week, it raises the question of what the hell is going on at the stadium and why have you and your mates not got a handle on things?

And this free hit chat is utter bollocks, there should be no such thing as a free hit in this league, if Deans came out with that he'd be lambasted. Per the FH the patron money of £220k was going towards the January window, add in a further 30k from BFL that's a hell of sum that a decent manager, who has experience of what is required could use to get us out of this league.

What an absolute walloper you are btw. They've only been in the door a week. Given Rennie's supposed to be a life long Falkirk fan he's probably very well aware of the team and the leagues in Scotland despite having never managed in them. If you genuinely believe we only train twice a week then you need your head checked. We've plucked a guy who's got a 53% win ratio in over 300+ games which is quite fine by me. He's got 6 months to show what he can do and if he's not up to it then we part ways in June and look elsewhere. Moaning about who we've got as a manager whilst also moaning about him only getting a 6 month deal is a funny turn of events.

All of this ☝but compounded with Holt leaving soon too, I am told.

So our 'strategy' reverts back to a wing and a prayer.

Massive clusterf**k energy about the impending situation.

Holt was never right for the role of recruiting players you need an ex scout in that position with years of knowledge or get lucky and have a Ross Wilson right on your doorstep.

A competent manager at this level should be able to recruit better than what Holt has produced so now it's up to Rennie to show what he's worth.

Imagine moaning about the man who oversaw the signings of Brad Mckay, Jaime Wilson & the resigning of Ben Hall leaving.

  11. How many loans can we have at the one time this season? Is it still 6?

Martin Rennie will do what every sensible coach would do in his position. Assess the squad with his staff, identify where he needs to strengthen and then start looking at who he can actually bring in to improve us.

You can only do so much in January as there won't be many free agents floating about so we'll most likely rely on loans to turn us around but as BPM has said it'll be the playoffs at best.

Be interesting to see if they bring in a proper sporting director when Holt is inevitably punted or whether Rennie will assume the role of finding players to recruit. Either way they don't have to do much to better the quality we've brought in via Holt.

I'd imagine Dowds will be back in January until Rennie's had a look at him especially as we didn't let him play in the scottish cup for Arbroath.

Rennie's biggest challenge is he's going to have to try get a tune out of quite a few of our underperforming players this season as we'll only be able to get rid of some of them and bring in maybe 5/6 players dependant on the loan rules.

I dont have the benefit of the eye test for comparison, but at least two of Ruth's goals have been impossible to miss with one of those being credited to him where it didnt look like he touched it.

He did score a really nice one against Dumbarton(?)

But as to what he brings to the team and to our attack, its really next to f**k all. Yer man there telling us Dowds is holding the ball up well for Arbroath against far better teams (added to a similar strike rate in front of goal)

That said, even what Dowds showed in a Falkirk jersey before being loaned out is enough for me to call him a better option than Ruth.

It's not Ruth's fault that's he's been brought in as our main number 9 due to honking recruitment. He has something to offer coming off the bench but shouldn't be our starting striker every week. Scored a peach against Dumbarton and a peach against East Fife at home the volley from outside the box. Doesn't matter how he scored the other two only matters that he scored.

You can't be 'nothing special' and 'really impressive' at the same time. He's average but he would have been a better option for us this season than Ompreon or Jaime Wilson that's for sure.

    Or Michael Ruth....

Ruth gets it tight from us due to the fact he's Sheerin's loverboy but on the face of it he's a 19 year old with 4 goals in 12 games which isn't a horrible return for us considering how bad we are. Dowds has 3 in 14 for Arbroath who are fairing a lot better than us this year so make of that what you will.

Dowds is nothing special but he is definitely good enough to be in a squad challenging to win League 1

    Really impressing me just now

Sorry but the 'we can't just keep replacing entire squads every year' argument is exactly the same as the 'we can't sack the worst manager in the club's history just in case people think we sack managers'

We have to draw out a financial plan that sees us lose all of the below players in the next 6 months, between Jan and June windows :-

priority - Holt, Hall, McKay, Miller, Hetherington, Ross, Ruth, McDaid, Dixon, Ompreon, McGuffie, Wilson, Krasniqi

Could be kept at a push - R Williamson,  McCann, Keena, Mutch, Martin, C Williamson, Morrison, Telfer, Nesbit, Lemon (edging toward priority), Weekes, Dowds

So there's 13 who have to go between now and June 2022.

3 loans - they can get to f**k early in Jan.

Of the other 10 we need to clearly decide who goes in Jan and who goes in June once we hopefully limp to L1 survival. Its critical none of that list is here next season.

Ruth & Mcdaid shouldn't be too difficult given they are only on loan. Krasniqi shouldn't really be in there given we've never had a chance to get a proper look at him on the park. Dixon's our best centre back at the club and I'd also have him as captain so I have no idea why you have him in the punt list. Also to say Lemon's edging towards the punt list is just absolute stupidity, he's had one honker of a game playing beside Ben Hall and he's 18 years old. Looks like a right prospect if he gets the development he needs.

I’ve signed up to the FSS but if Holt gets anywhere near my money to spend on players in January I’ll be well pissed off. This shower makes Hartleys Brentford experiment look good. Holt should never get anywhere near signing players for us again as he has well and truly made a Harry Hunt of it.

Your FSS money isn't going to buying players in January it's going to accumulate more shares for the group and therefore create more of a say in the club for us fans. Holt most likely won't be there much longer given everyone knows nobody other than Gary Deans wants him there.
