I took his statement to mean that we have no more money for transfer fees.

That said, not convinced by Meekings. I think we're fine at centre back imo, and a left back should be the main target.

Budget to me has always included wages - I be very surprised if we make another signing.

I think Meekings will be made up by certain fans as a wind-up! If Aberdeen was interested in him they would have already signed him as been a free agent since June

  2. I think it would be better for Storey to leave rather than Stockley as I think Stockley has the physical part to game that Aberdeen don't have if looking for a Plan B. I don't think Stockley is Aberdeen level but he has proven in the past especially in the Scottish Cup Final he has the game to trouble teams like the quality of Celtic. With Storey I don't really think hasn't had a chance in the games but he doesn't look to have any ability at all but does have a lot of pace.

Looking at the squad we have on paper we have strengthen the team to a very good level although defence concerns me as we haven't got a defender that will will everything in the air or have a defensive midfielder that protects the defence. These at two weaknesses in our squad for me that our manager must look at (although think we may have used our budget now so might have to look at next transfer window or next season)

I hope to be proved very wrong and have this post quoted at me at the end of the season but I really am not convinced by May. I remember one of the games at Pittodrie that season against St Johnstone I specifically kept an eye on him because I had been told in advance that he was good, and he was absolutely awful. He looked disinterested, hardly got a touch of the ball and he was very poor. In subsequent games he did little to impress me except in that game at Ibrox. He as far as j can tell had one good season at this level. Since then he's scored basically no goals and now can't get into contention at a team with a manager he apparently excelled under. Like I say I hope I'm proved wrong but I'm not sure he is the answer.

I wasn't a fan when he was at St Johnstone either but he was still a kid then. We have a major problem upfront as Rooney looks a lot slower than previous seasons (didn't think that was possible), Storey/Stockley don't look Aberdeen standard so best to try and move at least one of them on if May signs.

I really don't rate GMS at all. He had a reasonably decent time at Utd but was always in Armstrong's shadow. I was surprised that Celtic were duped into buying him based on a few decent games. Happy to be proved wrong.

At Dundee Utd I never really noticed Armstrong although I remember watching GMS and Johnny Russell when on their day rip sides apart especially when I watched them against some Russian side. I always thought at the time Armstrong was a strange signing for Celtic at the time but have been proved wrong with that as he has come on and one of Scotland important players.

GMS like many Scottish players playing for Celtic just isn't good enough for them but I do think he will be good enough for us and do a job like McGinn did. The big stumbling block is wages and if Celtic are willing to pay him a sum of money to compensate him.

You would think any newspaper would do the most rudimentary research before publishing an article like that. But I suppose this is The Sun we're talking about.

Mackay-Steven would have been a decent addition given McInnes' expressed desire to add a winger to the squad, but he is contracted to Celtic until 2019 and his wage demands would almost certainly be too high for us to justify signing him permanently. I would rather have Christie of the two, but he would be a sensible loan signing for plenty of other Premiership teams.

I think they changed the rules last season - If he could sign then I would hate to go in the league/scottish cup and try and beat Celtic with 2 players that can't play against them - bad enough last season with Christie in the Scottish Cup final!

Sky Sports reporting we have Simon Church training with us, is he any good? Can't say I know much about him tbh.

He did ok at Aberdeen nothing amazing but did have Hayes and McGinn creating chances for him. He went to Holland last season but had a major hip injury for the season so obviously a bit of a risk for you guys.

  7. Panic on the streets of Aberdeen!

Hopefully we will sign 1 or 2 players today before the Europa League deadline, really concerned now for our European tie with the squad looking really thin. With Shinnie/Wright not playing last night friendly we will have nothing on the bench - hopefully both fit for Thursday game. If we don't sign anyone then one more injury and we will have to play a kid that has no experience of first team fitba apart from a few of them having a handful of appearances - not ideal.

Taylor, for all his many flaws, is definitely good enough for a team that finished 16th in League One last season.

Fyvie rumour appears to have originated on Chat, so I wouldn't be reading too much into it. Hopefully it's just unsubstantiated forum talk - we have Shinnie, Tansey, O'Connor and McLean all capable of playing in his position, and Fyvie is not as good as any of them - I don't rate him at all, but I know some people do. Even as a last resort, I'd probably still be against it. I doubt any of our supporters would even be talking about him if he hadn't started his career with us.

I think the Fyvie rumour has been made-up as a joke but if not then I wouldn't want him back at the club. First the way he walked out of the club after the amount of time we did training him up to be the player he was then he left chasing the pound sign. Every youth player that has done that with us resulted in their career going downhill. I also think he isn't the same player since the Alloa injury and I didn't rate him at Hibs and think this would be a backwards step for our club.

Ash Taylor signed for Northampton. I'm surprised he even managed to find a team at league one level.

Coincidentally he's the replacement for Zander Diamond. Imagine the bomb scare defence if the two of them had played together.

He's played league one level for quite a few seasons before joining us so I don't think it will be a problem for him. I don't think he is good enough for Aberdeen but he did put some good performances in although in certain other games he had a nightmare but I think he was a better defender than Zander Diamond.

Maloney flagged up some issues before/at medical and the move is on the rocks now pending more tests and discussions

Noticed Chris Mclaughlin tweeted that at 10pm - I hope the dons make a quick decision on this or have another signing of a wide player. I bet Aberdeen/Maloney wished the media didn't know about the signing.

    Peter Hetherston anyone

Aye, I've heard rumours of a failed medical.

I also heard rumours of Kari Arnason.

If Kari Arnason returns to Pittodrie I'll have forgotten the name Maloney within 24hrs.

I think it is important we sign a wide player before the Europa League deadline so if Maloney isn't signing then I hope the manager takes in wide player before the deadline on Friday (Scott Wright got a hamstring injury so this is a concern)

Kari Arnason was excellent for the first 6 months at Pittodrie but after that he was poor (form or attitude?)
