I think we actually have a squad to play a back 3 now and would like to see us try it but can't see us abandoning a tried and tested defence and formation. Hopefully that doesn't mean Hancock on the left wing though.
When everyone is fit and available it should be Ricky/TOB/Hammy at the back with Oakley and Hancock wing backs. Tait, Allan and Jacobs in midfield and “amazing new striker” and McKenna up front. (Sorry Hilson).1 -
I wonder if moving the challenge cup games to midweek and playing the league matches the weekend of the 24th would be the best plan of action.

I see the cricket is back on tomorrow and I think the golf is also planning on returning. Makes this decision even stranger imo.

Lets hope common sense prevails. What a lot of pish. I don’t care either way, find people buzzing about this news as equally strange as the people who are acting like their own grans just snuffed it but what fkn difference does it make if Arbroath play Raith Rovers in a game of football. I’m guessing the teams will still have to train anyway and it just means more midweek fixtures and a potential build up of fixtures0 -
Seemingly all fixtures will be postponed over the next 9 days

None but that doesn't normally stop them. Not to be rude but surely they’re not going to cancel the football. What purpose would that serve?1 -
I'm not really getting these arguments. We have said he can leave for free as we're going to loan him out for the rest of his contract so he can play closer to home due to personal circumstances. Morton don't have anything to do with it as he's our player. There are plenty of clubs that will want him on loan I'm sure that train within range of where he lives and he will then still get his contracted wages. After the loan he is a free agent and can sign for any club that he wants to and that want him.
We're only talking 8 months not the rest of his playing career. Can't really see the big issue here. Aside from the freak injury due to the way he fell at the Kilmarnock game he has been fine injury wise for us.
I wish him all the best. Enjoyed watching him play and hope he stays injury free for the rest of his career.3 -
Not really, we started this way 2 seasons ago before getting a frontman and kicking on a bit.It would appear the ‘fairytale’ is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Arbroath.
Sad to see.
It will be a struggle but players going in and out is normal. We still have most of our core squad and have already recruited replacement midfielder. I would have rather still had Low but we went large spells last season without him and coped well with Mckenna playing midfield.1 -
Little is a club legend though. Not sure why there is nothing about his testimonial when he's been with us the same amount of time as Bobby but I hope he gets the same treatment as he certainly deserves it.Ricky Little travels further2 -
If Low has had a change in his personal circumstances that he can't travel then fair enough but we're not going to give him to a rival if under contract. If hes not able to turn up and train and play he's not getting paid either I wouldn't think. A loan to a L1 or L2 team seems beneficial to both parties if his wages can be covered.

He wasn't one of the commentary team on Saturday. The good one is Fraser Clyne, ex sports journalist and ex top international distance runner. He’s a big Arbroath fan, I’m sure he told me once that his dad played for Arbroath.0 -
Sorry, what I should have added was we don't need superstars just solid pros who have a bit of potential to step up. Like you say we have done loads of that in the past so I think that's where the frustration lies that the players were getting from trials etc are not as good as that.... I don't really know how to respond to that. Did Dick not sign most of those players? He also signed Henderson last season too, and took Dowds on loan. He also signed Shanks from the Highland League.
So do you really think he just isn't bothering his arse to look at L1 and L2?
Edited to add, your list there pretty much proves my point. We are always looking for the best possible signings, and have recruited from L1, L2, and the LL and HL leagues in recent years. So we clearly are willing to recruit from those leagues. But our fans think the management just aren't making the effort?2 -
Hamilton - Alloa, Little - Queens Park, TOB - Forfar, Low - East Stirlingshire, Gold - Berwick, Mckenna - Berwick, Hilson - Forfar, Stewart - Airdrie.I love this constantly repeated idea that league 1 and 2 are stacked with part time superstars, and the management just didn't bother their arse to have a look.
Most of the squad was signed from L1 and L2. Definitely difficult to get the top players but there are plenty that can make the step to the championship2 -
There is a duty of care to the employee and an expectation of confidentiality. It's really not something the club can comment on. It's none of your business really.I'm hoping that if nicky low can't travel to training and is unavailable to play, is subsequently getting SFA of the money I contribute to the club ??
Perhaps some transparency would be good.1 -
Suspended next weekIs TOB back next week? 2 match ban?0 -
Yeah a lot of people need a reality check. The thing is a lot of the crowd have only seen us play at Gayfield when we have been excellent. I can totally understand the booing when Linn got hooked as was basically the only player that was going to get us up the pitch and potentially win or draw the game.Took in the Arbroath game yesterday PT clearly the better team after the sending off,but what baffled me the most was some of the shouts at the end from the Smokies. One guy was going off his dinger at the end shouting at DC and clearly unimpressed with the season so far he then came away with some bizzare comment saying this is going to like "Forfar all over again" as he was walking away with his pals a was pissing myself laughing at that comment.
Overall DC is not immune from criticism but we had a poor start to the season 2 years ago and turned it round. We need to forget about last season and remember the aim is to stay up.
Some positives yesterday was our defence and Tait debut. He looked excellent and will be an asset. Unfortunately Fosu and Cofre look out of their depth. We need a striker that just stays central. Hilson does a lot of running but lacks the composure and natural striker instinct. He's a good player to bring on when your winning as is a nuisance but not going to solve our goal scoring problems. He had a great chance when Linn put the ball in but needed to be hit first time.
If we can get some players back and add a number 9 then we'll will start getting some wins no doubt. It is going to be a tough season though.1 -
I'd bite you hand off for 8th at the moment.

I think Gold is more than capable of nailing down a regular start in the centre. He can do everything Chris Hamilton did plus better on the ball.I like guys like Craigen and Gold, good players with a lot of versatility. However, neither of them (and others) are going to get a huge amount of game time at this level unless covering for injury or suspension. Some seem to be happy with that, others not so.
Sad to see him go, he gave us one of the best moments in our club’s history but, ironically, if we had held on that night and gone up he would have been away from the club by now anyway.3 -
Still a chance of a striker from the Premier in the next month possibly. Those deals didn't need done last night.

I didn't think Craigen looked happy at not getting on the pitch at the Queens Park game. Not shocked he's away. Think he probaby should have started in the middle after Golds injury.

They normally add time on for injuries real or otherwise and was correctly added onto the time already allocated.Quite literally happens every game when a team is clinging on to something. You don't see referees adding time on second for second.
I have no allegiance to this, just an observation.

Not see the keeper lying on the ground for 3 minutesThat's scandalous from the ref. 7 minutes into 5 minutes added time.2 -
I think the biggest difference in the loan market has been the change to 5 subs. It's a shame that it's being kept in as I don't like being able to change half your team. It also means other clubs are hanging onto a few more players up to the last minute of the window.
