Hladky, Alnwick & Carson were already very good goalkeepers. Not sure how much a part Langfield played in them remaining very good during their time with us.

He’s also coached some really poor goalies who never improved at all. Urminsky hasn’t looked to have improved any from his first appearance to his last against Rangers.

Langfield being great with Goalkeepers is a myth. He was a shite one himself.

So 371 professional appearances, a cup winner who is not only an employee of the club you support but also a fellow fan yet still you put the boot into him? FFS did I log into B&WA by mistake.

Out of interest how many professional games did you play in?

I don't think I will ever understand some of our fans.

What's the difference? How is the Premiership season starting during the window different to the League Cup starting during the window?

Clubs have had to play in Europe at this time of year for ages - does that devalue those competitions too?

FFS, you are building a straw man argument to make a point. The difference is the cup started on July 15th and the league starts on August 6th. I believe the first games of the season should be in the league and that the players should be given an adequate time to build MATCH fitness during what is a relatively short preseason. I  don't need you to agree with me yet you seem to need me to agree with you.

I believe this, you don't.......... fair enough.

There's not really such a thing as a "squad for the season", given that clubs sign players right up to the deadline in August (and sometimes after), and then again in January. There are also usually about 4 league games played before the end of the transfer window - does that mean the Premiership is devalued too?

No it means you're being an obtuse twat. 😎

I can take getting beat by lower league opposition once in a while. We all have our “Darvel Days”. That’s not a dig - it happens in football - it’s what makes the cup tournaments unique. I seem to remember as reigning holders of the Scottish Cup we were beaten first time back at home by Clydebank 3-0 in 1998.

I remember that game well, looking back the Bankies had a good team but still a terrible result.

As an aside, after we signed Mike Conroy from them he was terrible until he left us and became a goal machine again, the St Mirren striker curse was alive and well even in 88.

Slower than Gallagher? Joe wasn’t perfect but he’s a threat in the opposition half as well as a decent defender. We’re weaker without him

Regardless of whether he’s slower than Joe, one is under contract and one wasn’t.
Joe was rightly earning good money and the manager wants to use that wage elsewhere and Joe was out of contract so he moved on.

If we had just come off a terrible season then I would be more concerned but we finished top six so I trust Robbo’s judgement in how to best use the limited budget he has and if the comparison is with Gallagher, then paying out his contract to offer Joe new terms would have been mental.

  6. I liked big Joe and wouldn’t have minded keeping him but if we struggle in the league, he will become Maldini instead of the decent but relatively slow centre half he actually is.

We were gash today, no question but releasing him is not even in the top 10 reasons why we lost today.

We lacked any sort of creativity and Grieve for all his efforts is not going to score enough at this level, Madron probably won’t either but at least he has the excuse of being new.
As a team we are not set up to have a lot of possession so I’m expecting to see a different shape and performance at ER next month.

Bad day at the office but we didn’t become a bad team over the summer, onwards and upwards.

    Absolutely buzzing after that.

To quote on St Mirren fan after the game "how shite are we". Well as bad as the might have been Montrose were awesome and defended like trojans. Their defence struggled with the pace and strength of Hester and simple balls over the top were causing all sorts of trouble.

    Sooo happy rn.

Congratulations Bud, thoroughly deserved to win, hope you enjoy your night 🍻
