The conference league is an OF Trojan Horse in everything but name. It reeks of the vast majority of non OF supporters saying "told you so" come season 2028-29.

We have a 11-1 voting structure in the Premiership but with this doubt the SPFL will allow only 5 clubs to scupper their Bond Villain pish. Can pretty much say my own and St Mirren's will vote against if they are true to the fan owned ethos. So "in theory" we need 3 more clubs to align.

As I said earlier in the thread, not our issue despite their Gucci training facilities at Murray Park and Lennoxtown (and the lure of a players lounge ticket for Da vicariously living through his kids talent) they're not advancing enough Scots into their first teams.

  2. Due to enforced changes I wouldn't be surprised to see this:

    ------------- Kelly -------------

    --- McGinn - Butcher - Blaney ---

    SOD -------- Goss ------- Spittal

    ----- Cornelius ---- Paton ------

    --------- Obika -- KVV ---------

I suppose its how much he wants Spittal contributing further up the park or not.

Kind of disagree with that in so much as both Mandron and Obika are pretty key to making the current shape/system work.

The problem is that the other key part is having a KVV or similar that they facilitate.

The premise was we have a history of keeping guys around because of associations and them being sound rather than merit and a Devil's advocate approach to their continued employment.

As has been covered before Obika was injured before he got to us, got injured shortly after arriving and is a year older than Kev. He offers zero resale. His con's outweigh his pro's by quite a bit. I mean there's been a swathe of posts this season about not repeating the Aarons/Moult thing. Obika record reeks of it.

Mandron is in the middle of his footballing prime age wise, I haven't seen much to suggest he's much more than a mediocre jobber and came here because he was not part of the plan by a new manager at Gillingham. Nice guy and all that and if SK thinks he can get a tune out them then I'll happily defer, he's got a pretty successful record getting positive reactions and performances out his players. However, he is not the high water mark of what we should expect as a main striker nor foil for one. I feel certain going to the market when the dust settles this summer is a better use of our limited resources.

If a major part of our business plan is we're a selling club then it kinda suggests we need to pursue and retain assets that have a chance or being sold.

So as @wellboy1991 said, we can't keep them both and I agree with that. I'd go further and thank them both for their limited contributions since January with a hearty handshake. As @crazylegsjoe_mfc suggested, start buying quality than filling the squad with mediocre players to pad out the club photo. Yeah you run a risk that a few injuries mean you're digging into your U21 team but we were loading our bench with that from October to January anyway after securing a bumper squad anyway.

  4. Going into next season with essentially the same squad minus the few players that brought the added pixie dust means improving on this years 7th will be an uphill task.

If our summer business consists of offering deals to people already in the building OOC who have performed well in the past 3 months, we're pretty much full up to the squad size SK said was within our means.

While not every one of them will accept, advising a few contracted players there is no future for them and telling them to seek other avenues (similar to what Hibs did to McGinn a year ago) may give him a bit of financial leeway. However, there will be yet more golden handshakes needed to facilitate early departures. Not that I think our business will be complete, I just sincerely hope we just shop better than we have. We have poor windows when we're flush and great one's when our backs are to the wall. Go figure.

Are we going to get offers of £200k for Kelly and Slattery? Doubt it. I guess that would have been the minimum sort of return we would have hoped for when their signatures we secured in 2021.

Guys like Paton, without a club for not far off a year before he signed will be on buttons. He can hold his own in this league and good value to fill a bench seat and used in a pinch. Especially if that saving helps secure a definite starter (Hiya Casey). Ketts will also have to determine if guys like Shields and Maguire really are Championship jobbers or can push on. In the case of the latter this will be his 5th? manager making that call.

Finding a +20 goal striker replacement is what SK will be facing and they're unicorns to the wee teams. We were spoiled with Higgy and Handsome John back to back (Louis probably did it in a calendar year), but in the 10 years since has any of the other non-city clubs had a +20 goal striker? I can only think of Kane Hemmings, Liam Boyce and Stevie May doing it.

He's done it with Hammell's team (albeit Hammell didn't get the chance to bed in some of his latest signings).

Hammell however did have the chance to improve the defence before the summer window closed and he didn’t.

We should all be big advocates against a future winter World Cup based on that season breakdown.

If that's right, and Casey has broken his arm, it does reinforce why players down tools or hold back at the end of the season. Fair fucks to him for still giving 100% when he's out of contract in a few weeks.

Technically out of contract but he'll definitely be offered a deal on better terms. What's the prognosis for a broken bone these days, 3 weeks in a stookie and then be care for a further three. Nothing to stop him showing up for day one of pre-season anywhere.

Youve got to ask yourself why hes willing to work for pennies, i guess.

He's humble and is aware anyone can access his transfermarkt stats?

He managed not far off the same game time in 6 years elsewhere than he managed in his last half season and most recent loan spell combined. He also scored 5 more goals with us in half a season than he's managed in those 6 years.
