  1. That's the first quarter over and looking at the points tally we are not too far away. I reckon Jim Goodwin would have had a target of 10 points per quarter to guarantee safety in this division. We are 3 short but obviously we could easily have had more than this taking into account the games at dunfermline Dumfries and at home to Dundee United to name a few. We could easily be sitting with 12-13 points and it wouldn't be an injustice based on our performances. Don't want to speak too soon but none of these teams certainty in the games that I have been at have shafted us at any point . A much poorer championship than the last time we were there on the games so far. Confidence is everything in football and yesterday along with the cup showing last week will certainly install belief
  2. I remember someone shouting "Hey Hendrie get yer dick oot" when he was warming up. Spurs Ajax and Alloa on his CV. Disnae get any better than that .
  3. He won't chance his luck with jim Goodwin.
  4. Best wishes and thanks to Callum crane. Many players over the years go Chuck Norris "missing in action" after signing a pre contract with another team. However Callum was the complete opposite and ran his guts out for us in the second half of the season especially in the play offs . A winner with undoubted quality to play at the top level . A very canny signing for Livingston and leaves with our best wishes .
  5. The reaction of some of the alloa support that day was really poor at Bayview when Spence got taken off. He wasn't in the game at that point and alloa weren't creating chances from memory. A dour encounter from what I can recall. I suspected at the time that a few were 'chummy' with Greg's father who was also perturbed about him getting taken off. Jim wasn't getting much support at that juncture from some quarters and was unpopular despite getting very decent results . From memory Dylan Mackin was getting a hard time that day also. Cringeworthly. I really don't think that there was a problem between Greig and Jim goodwin. Greig scored goals and indeed that's all he ever done and we loved him for it. Anonymous outside of the box but popped up with crucial goals . A great penalty box striker just as Jim is a great alloa manager .
  6. Brilliant move for Jack Ross. Sunderland are a massive club and if he can get them going again he will be well backed . Sometimes taking a team over at their lowest point is a wide move . They will romp that division of he has a decent budget . An absolute footballing hotbed with a fanatical support. Too good an opportunity to turn down
  7. Gault is signing for alloa. Heard this a couple of weeks ago.
  8. Fleming has been brilliant for us this season after moving back into the middle of the park. I have enjoyed watching him. Brilliant range of passing and he will certainly get another club. After a sluggish start he certainly made an impact . All the best Gary and thanks for the memories. Best wishes and thanks to all the released players some real quality there but after with others on this thread, players need to be playing .
  9. I laughed recently when sir Alex added his weight to the save hampden campaign. He would have been playing for queens park the last time he had to travel there on public transport. Furthermore wonder when the last time he had to suffer watching a game from behind the goals.......he will always get wined and dined in the best seat in the house of that there is no doubt. He really should have a go sitting behind the goals a few rows from the back before he opens his mouth. Hampden is finished chaps. Really not fit for purpose. Rotten for viewing football and international games are really not worth the money. Abysmal for a drink beforehand and absolutely terrible to get there by public transport or car. I actually thought it was great for athletics when the commonwealth games were in Glasgow and that is what it is now . I went to a concert there is 2013 and once again I was miles from the stage. Totally not fit for purpose. It's sad as there is a lot of history but fans want a decent view these days and we were sold short in the past especially when you see the monies generated for other stadiums in the UK by successive governments. I enjoy going to see alloa and queens play there but that is it now.
  10. I think injury has set PJ back s bit but there is no doubting his capability. I think he will be valuable should we get to the play offs. A player that needs to start a game for me. He is not as effective coming on as a sub
  11. Fleming had been absolutely majestic for us since moving back into the middle of the park. Brilliant range of passing. Hugely influential and has been a great signing. We will miss him over the next 2 games and I thought the red card against East Fife was a booking and very harsh.
  12. Everything to play for . We are strong and well balanced at the moment and in a great place for the play offs. No one will want to play us. We have the best midfield in this division . Fleming has been an absolute revalation since moving into midfield . Herrington has benefited moving into a more central role under the careful mentoring of Jim Goodwin and has developed an edge to his game. He has had a terrific season. I am convinced we will be promoted via the play offs. Mon alloa
  13. In the calendar year of 2017 , our managers win ratio has been excellent. Yes there was a poor first quarter this season but he has made key changes that have certainly got the best out of our squad. Cook was a disaster but in fairness he has given him a chance and moved him on when it wasn't working . He also made a key switch with Fleming dropping into midfield . His record has been excellent and deserves better support than he gets in certain sections of the home support. An emerging great alloa manager
  14. Poor first half today but much better after the break. Got to say I thought Fleming was excellent for us today. I was expecting the purple pests to be better than that. Pressed us well in the first half but we moved through the gears after the interval and was game over.
  15. Add longworth to the list of ill timed departures. Baldy head and shoulders above anything we have added to the team this season.
  16. I have missed a lot of games this season due to work commitments so not in a great place to comment on comparison with the guys that go every week. However for what it's worth my comment and points are as follows - 1. We have lost great players to full time clubs however they players we have should have amassed more that 8 points for the first quarter. 2. The players the manager has signed have really not been to the standard required at this level. Signing players from relegated clubs is never a great move. 3. We have disposed of class players for alloa such as marr and particularly Holmes and their steading influence is badly missed. 4. I saw the team in pre-season against arbroath and was convinced that we would struggle to escape the relegation play offs when I seen the standard we had recruited. The onus was always going to be on the existing core of Cawley, flannigan, Graham taggart etc who are undoubted class at this level. It's proven too tough an ask for them and drastic surgery is required quickly. Hope things improve but really I don't see light at the end of the tunnel. I fear a cowdenbeath situation emerging. Forfar have secured a decent manager and I really don't see two weaker team's in this division than us. We should have been promoted last season and it may be that we are suffering an almighty hangover from this .
  17. very early doors (mid July) but the warning signs for a difficult season are there. Poor in the final third and I was surprised when we scored to be honest. We still are excellent in the middle of the park with Robertson and flannigan and we have class at the back but it's goals that win games. Early days but it was evident last night that the new signings have a learning curve to make up to come up to the standards set by players such as Cawley flannigan and taggart. I really didn't think Arbroath were up to much and was expecting better from them especially coming up as champions . They still have McCord to come in for them though -a terrific player at this level.
  18. We are weaker this year . We have lost three star performers to full time clubs and we will be in a period of consolidation this season. We are regrouping and will go again. We still have many quality operators at this level and we should be competitive for a play off spot. As we have seen last season , a team nearer the relegated team than the team that finished second still managed to get promoted clearly demonstrated that absolutely anything can happen over a long season. I expect raith to win it in a canter. Barry Smith is a quality proven manager at this level and will shore up their defensive problems from last season. Buchanan was outstanding last season and there is nothing to suggest that his form will not continue. Spence is a great goal poacher although his work outside the box is anonomous , he is a terrific finisher. A player we will miss. Still a lot to be enthusiastic about and I liked the way we played last season . We were a great football team to watch and for me the manager has successfully made the transition from the pitch to the technical area. Mon alloa
  19. Walters a terrific player. Good luck and best wishes to him but he has the class on the ball and game awareness. He has the ability to go right to the top.
  20. I think last season the games caught up with us . We played a lot of cup games especially in August and September. Over the season including pre season and play offs we must have played in excess of 50 games with what was in effect a 15 man squad. League points are what really matters albeit I enjoyed watching us turn over spl teams and give celtic a tremendous game at Celtic park. Outside of Abedeen, team's managed by Jack ross probably gave celtic their toughest domestic cup tests. I wouldn't grumble if alloa played a weakened team in this competition. I think playing colt team's lessens the importance but being honest , the finals and semis we have been in have provided some of my greatest experiences watching alloa. Martyn is wrong to label the cup a joke in my opinion. I missed the Welsh trip last season due to a family holiday but it looked a terrific weekend away
  21. I miss the Derby game against stirling also. Even rocky needed Apollo creed.
  22. I thought big Dylan was ok for us . Raw but a potential championship striker there. His winner in the play off final was sublime. Brilliant header
