  1. Agree with everyone here and the first 45 minutes was the best I've seen us all season. Strachan has brought a bit of balance and composure to our left hand side and he had an excellent game. Church also provided a quite brilliant cross for the second and his delivery from the left hand side is also excellent. A proverbial game of two halves yesterday and we could have been three goals to the good before the break but Edinburgh were excellent in the second period. Credit both teams for a cracking game of football in atrocious conditions throughout. Rain that would have wiped out a tattoo to be honest. Edinburgh are certainties for the play offs and if we can sustain this form we won't be far away either.
  2. Was excellent for us but he was playing in a good settled team back then playing beside Flannigan in the middle of the park. A good Alloa team then.
  3. Happy New Year everyone. Best wishes for 2023
  4. Agree with pretty much everything written on here. Really poor game today. We have not made much progress this season on that showing. Just glad we have miraculously accumulated hopefully enough points to keep us away from trouble at the bottom. We won't trouble the play offs . 7th or 8th at best. Brutal last season but not much better this term .
  5. Expected this would happen to be honest . Lunchtime kick offs during the winter especially in the lower league. This used to happen pre floodlight days
  6. An absolute disgrace Peter Grant getting abuse whilst watching his sons play against us. Embarrassment ,guy didn't deserve that . We had some great days under PG especially in his first season. He always Fronted up and met the fans etc. Poor
  7. Really worry for us this season. I always anticipated a season of struggle especially after last term. Barring a couple of outstanding loans I see us only fighting to avoid the drop. We are nowhere near it just now and have shipped 6 goals in 2 games. Airdrie lost half their team and manager and we're still miles behind them. I worry we are this season's East Fife
  8. A good 3 points yesterday and we were efficient as opposed to outstanding. Great second goal and at least the team look well organised and have a decent shape about them. Still think we are lightweight in the middle of the pitch and both strikers combined well but both are similar. Kelty for me looked like a team who obviously have experienced quality players in their ranks but look to be struggling with the step up to league 1 at the minute. A good three points for Alloa but I reckon the manager is still looking to add a few players in key positions .
  9. Robertson has been a terrific player for us . An Alloa great no question
  10. I thought we started well and looked very decent but we fell out of the game badly and EF came back into it . We were hanging on at the end. Disappointed but it's still early doors . This corresponding fixture last season we lost to a team that were relegated out of senior football at the recs . Early days .
  11. I think this summer has been a bit of a fall out following last season's disasterous Barry reign where we had something like a squad of 26 players all lifting wages. It couldn't go on. The spending has been curbed understandably. Last season was a lost by opportunity especially when you see who the play offs panned out . This term we are signing prospects from lower league football. I worry they have shown up well against the poor teams we have played so far . ( Big Geoff anyone......) Brian Rice done a sterling job installing confidence back into the squad and avoided an abject disaster and kept us up. We were only heading one way in February. He has a brilliant track record of developing players and we are in safe hands. I really think this year will be about survival again though but obviously I hope I am wrong .
  12. We have not played anyone decent yet we haven't really had a test. As I said earlier it's all about fitness just now.
  13. Couldn't really judge us on Tuesday as Albion were really poor. I worry for them as if they drop out of the league, the Derby will be lost forever. We certainly looked fitter and this is what pre season is all about.
  14. Scored goal of the season but that was about it. Didn't look fit enough and was a bit part player especially after Ferguson left. Being honest we were poor when he came in so it wasn't easy for him.
  15. I suspect many of our squad would have been putting feelers out for moves and probably been negotiating with other clubs since January whilst Ferguson was still the manager. This is not uncommon especially at this level as most players sign 12 month deals. We have had continuity of squad personnel for a few years now but it was always going to end at some point. There will be new opportunities and new hero's for us . At the end of the day , some of these players have given great service to us and never let us down and they go with our best wishes and thanks. We will be back and we do have a manager now with extensive knowledge of players in the Scottish scene , something Grant didn't and probably Ferguson evidenced by some of his signings didn't have . I do however suspect that we are operating on a much lesser budget this season given that having a squad of 26 is unsustainable year on year. There is wreckage to plough through but we'll be back
  16. A superb Alloa player. Thanks for the memories Alan Trouten . Absolutely top drawer Best wishes for the future to you and your family. Always welcome back in Alloa
  17. If you have nothing to report just shut the f**k up . P***k
  18. Would take both back. Senna can play in defence also and under the guidance of Brian Rice I am sure he would flourish. There is a player in there. He has the physical attributes for both midfield and defence and potential.
  19. I know in the context of this season and where we were in February, it's a miracle that we have finished 5th however this is our worst final league position since being relegated in 2011 . With the size of squad we had and if the wage bill is to be believed, this has been an absolute disaster of a season . Falkirk have had their lowest league finish also since 1978. In 2019 we finished a tough season in the championship with 39 points . This season , in a division that had many part time teams we were only 6 points better off . We have no devine right to be a championship club given our fan base and we have been punching above our weight for years . In this time we have been extremely well run and have made great key decisions such as the good solid managerial appointments. There is no getting away from it we are looking at a rebuild now to reverse this decline. Ferguson appointment and less so The grant appointment failed to reboot us successfully. Brian Rice has already shown promise and the ability to get the maximum from the players he inherited. The recruitment now is crucial and sincerely wish him all the best with this. It's going to be an interesting summer .
  20. A great servant to Alloa . He's stepped up and dug us out a few times . The last 11 years in the main have been terrific and exciting and Paddy has played a huge part in this . Some of the negative comments on here are simply way off the mark .
  21. Let's hope this is sorted this week. This is a crucial time in the calendar. Players need signed etc
  22. Good luck guys and hope you get something sorted soon . As an Alloa fan Broadwood doesn't hold many happy memories especially losing a challenge cup final there in 2001 and of course that crazy play off game in 2008. I actually thought on visiting the stadium this season on the two occasions that the place in general looked run down with a lack of preventive maintenance. I see all the properties springing around the ground and actually wondered how long before the council sold to the developer. Is shawfield a potential surely this would be a desired outcome? Those of us of a certain age remember the football there indeed I think we were the last team to score there in 1986. Good luck and best wishes. Owen Alloa fan
  23. Well done to Brian Rice in keeping us up. From where we were in February we had relegation certainties written all over us . That day at the Recs against East Fife was a low point and credit to the chairman , swift action was taken and a decent manager was hired to at least instill some confidence into a beleaguered squad. A lost opportunity this season though particularly given the budget we have had and also the quality of the league in general. Falkirk and Queens park have been very poor despite their full time status and spend . Cove will be deserved champions but in truth the division has been very mediocre. In my opinion Airdrie have been the best team I've seen playing us but table doesn't lie etc in Late April. The squad we had at the end of last season , with a few tweaks and a couple of additions should have certainly made the play offs . Next season the league will include. Financially well backed Kelty ,Queen of the south , perhaps a Dunfermline or Ayr United as well as probably a rejuvenated Falkirk and Queens park . I fear we will be making up the numbers to be honest. We have burned through the cash on a squad of 25 players etc this term and doubt this will continue. In all honesty, we are going to have to complete with much bigger clubs with financially more resources than us and fear it's a relegation scrap all over again. I sincerely hope Brian Rice stays with us. His experience and contacts will be invaluable however I fear he may have other offers to consider.
