Asked about his own remarks in 2017 that Trump was a “racist Ku Klux Klan and Nazi sympathiser”, and that he vowed to “chain myself to the door of No 10” if the UK welcomed the US president on a state visit to the UK, Lammy said he had made those remarks as a backbencher.

What on Earth does this actually mean? Before I thought I might actually end up in government, I just said any old shit I thought might be popular and didn't mean a word of it? Or I used to tell the truth when I was a nobody, but now I have a career to protect?

None of this makes sense to me. A net gain of two votes in a dying Parliament, so what? What does it say about the principles of Labour to welcome a right-wing Tory in to their ranks? How will this play with Labour's committed base?

Why is she joining a party that shares virtually no common ground (theoretically) with her own politics. And why, if she's so unhappy with Sunak's policies, didn't she head for her natural home in Reform UK?

    • It indicates to the electorate in England that they'll be the Conservatives in all but name, which will win them the election.
    • It says that there's very little difference between the two parties, if any.
    • The party doesn't care about the traditional Labour base, and hasn't done for decades, as they're confident that they'll all vote Labour to get rid of the Tories because they've no alternative.
    • She's joining Labour to avoid losing her job in a few months.
    • She didn't go to REFUK because she would have lost her job in a few months.

It's all perfectly cromulent. We may not like it, but it makes sense.

You could just read the Twitter thread if you want spammed with barely amusing short videos we have all seen anyway.

I wanted thousands of amusing GIFs that I hadn't seen at all.

He was like an internet digest for non social media users.

This is a dig at platinum members right?

He's right; we wouldn't be seen dead with the likes of him.

Platinum membership requires a minimum income of £10pa - I shudder to think what the Platinum forums would turn into if we allowed just anyone in.

I must be in a minority about the bottle tops. After initially disliking them I am now a fan after getting used to them and mastering the art of taking the top off and putting it back on using one hand. . No danger now of losing the top under your feet when having a drink when driving.

Aye, I couldn't care less, especially considering how easy it is to rip them off if you really want to. It's like when the fixed ring pulls on cans came in during the Nineties.

I did think their quality control was in the shitter to start with though - did I miss it, or was there no real effort made to inform the public that they were doing this with bottle tops?

That’s me resigning my SNP membership.  Can’t see me voting for them in any elections either.

Why is it that an avowed racist would never get a position like Deputy Leader but it’s OK to appoint an avowed homophobe?

Who's getting your vote now? There are always a ton of options for Holyrood.

Apparently there's a far-right environmental party. They sound like fun.

I hope I don't look back on this as the start of a journey to joining Britain First but I've noticed a number of our New Scots friends don't stand up to get off the bus until it has come to a full stop.

This leads to carnage when hard working British families (me) see an empty bus doorway and go to get on only to be trampled in the melee 5 seconds later.

No sympathy. You should be looking out for good, hard-working, proper BRITTISH pensioners who can't get up 'til the bus stops in case they fall over and break a hip and can't get seen at the hospital due to all of the immergants taking all the beds and not staffing our hospitals anymore.

Elphicke voted for restrictions on Trade Union activities as well all her other horrible anti-migrant, anti-environmental, anti-civil liberty voting record.

How can an MP who wouldn't pass vetting to stand for a party defect to them.

I'm not really sure which of those would bar her from being a Labour candidate TBH.

Are they still sticking to their principles on the environment?

The mercury probably killed the worm. That’s smart thinking from the tracheotomy-voice boxed face drawn on a foosty onion!

About the same time he learned of the parasite, he said, he was also diagnosed with mercury poisoning, most likely from ingesting too much fish containing the dangerous heavy metal, which can cause serious neurological issues. “I have cognitive problems, clearly,” he said in the 2012 deposition.

Ahh, so that's why he's always going on about mercury in vaccines.

That and the brain worms, obviously.

Yeah I know. The rest of us will bang our heads off the wall till eternity looking for Scottish football to address their toxicity on our game. Still, can't win shouldn't really mean don't try.

I mean, to expand on your point, people always say if the cheeks left our game would die. It wouldn't die. The quality might drop off due to money, but it would still be professional competitive football, with a chance for it not be a cesspit of glorification of a sectarian rivalry, so for that reason getting them to f**k would always be my preferred option, come what may in the aftermath

The same folk, when pushed, will generally admit that they think Scottish football is dead already outside of Celtgers and Europe, so their opinion isn't terribly relevant.

    Cheers guys.
I reckon I've thought there'd be some sort of humane understanding from the work and that's been an error on my part.
I did fire them an email stating my case why the offer of 1 week was a bit short but with the time it'll take and with the mourning after I reckon I'll need a sick line anyway.

    I'll sort it out.

Sorry mate. A lot of us make that mistake.

Take care of yourself, as there's a lot of work involved before you even get to think about the loss properly.

We got taught in primary school. My mother used to insist that I was good at it. and that it was a pity I didn't continue with it. I wasn't and it isn't.

Aye, the girls had lessons when we were all five. The boys got brought in on the first day and they had us make pom-poms. The teacher took one look at my effort and sympathetically said, "maybe this isn't for you", so me (and most of us) went back to learning about dinosaurs and shit.

I'm a member of the Edinburgh City Social Club and that's it.

We let women in but the club used to have a rule about "no jeans or t-shirts in the upstairs bar after 7pm" but since the club moved and the old radge members snuffed it/f*cked off in the huff it doesn't matter anymore.

When are the WI going to let in chaps then? Some chaps might like knitting, baking and chatting total shite.

Learning how to knit sounds like a lot of work.

Not sure I entirely agree about Barton behaving the way he does because of his upbringing in a tough part of Liverpool. He’s behaving the same way as other loud mouth grifters do and rarely are these people from tough backgrounds. The example the guy uses is Laurence Fox, who has a very privileged background (Harrow and RADA).

Aye, bit of the old snobbery showing through there. Anyone from a "rough area" would be fuming that it's used as an excuse for being a piece of shit.
