I've used buses and trains to get around the UK. On a coach I can take a bigger bag than Ryanair, and it's generally included in the price. On a train I can take any size of bag I fancy for absolutely f**k all. I'll generally be treated with respect by the staff in both of those scenarios too.

Ryanair are miles worse than either of those options in the UK.

If it's a choice between Ryanair or the train between the south of England and Scotland, it's an absolute no-brainer. Train every time. Bus takes too long, obviously.

But you get to stop at Tebay services and have a frankly magnificent roast dinner.

    Mon the buses.

    What happened in 1996?

    Absolutely fucking nothing. Shut up.

Anyway, back to Utd. Congratulations to Ross Docherty for keeping Goodwin in a job. Without him Utd were ordinary and were, as one Arab has said, there for the taking. The lad comes back from injury and Utd start purring again. An absurdly important player, but you lads need to find a ready replacement as, while he can make the step up, he can't play a full season.

    Goodwin is toilet though, unfortunately.

Enjoy your summer and try and stay up for a bit this time, those Dees are getting a bit uppity which should make for some fantastic derby match threads.

It was cold out, and I always sit through the credits out of respect.

The Tom Hanks film, or the naked Amanda Donohoe one?

(hope you're ready to be judged if it was the former)

Sadly it was the Hanks one. Crap.

  4. Worst was a theoretical comedy starring Sandra Bullock and the boy Tatum. Was going ok with some decent laughs from Brad Pitt's character (and some utterly boring scenes with Daniel Radcliffe who had no charisma at all) until out of absolutely nowhere Pitt's character gets shot in the head. Kennedy style. Blood and brains everywhere, like I was watching Evil fucking Dead. Except it wasn't Evil fucking Dead it was a gentle parody of Romancing the Stone and Indiana Jones type films. It was genuinely shocking and I couldn't settle into the film afterwards. The tone shifts in the whole movie were psychopathic. I walked out.

The best was watching Skyfall with my mates from halls. We all wore suits and bow ties and they were kind enough not to talk about the trailers on the way there as I'd deliberately avoided them. Thoroughly enjoyable.

There was also the time I watched Castaway with a girlfriend and we were the only ones in the back row. We were 18 at the time and were banned from returning to that particular cinema for a while. Worth it iirc 😎. Shite film though.

  5. Surprising result given the absolute apathy (read dread) from the whole city towards this game. The defending for all of Celtic's goals was absolutely terrible, but special mention goes to the defender who lifted his foot to let Forrest's goal in at the far post. Bamboozling decision.

I don't know what the rules are, but putting your foot in between the defender and the ball when he's about to kick it shouldn't make it a foul to you. It would have been superb had it been given tbf, and I'd love to see a dodgy penalty given to a diddy against one of the cheeks. There is as much chance of that happening as Celtic fans with irish surnames recognising the absurdity of clinging to a mythical cultural identity and just admitting that they like supporting a winning team, and cosplaying as an oppressed people.

Anyway, I hope the dandies have a fine journey home, and that the Celtic supporters buses get their booze taken off them.

I actually agree with you, but I suppose the argument would be that it’s offensive to the pope and the queen.

I daresay neither of them asked knuckledragging old firm fans to sing their praises, so why should they be “fucked”?

It's not about the actual people or necessarily the offices (although the expectorate vitriol reserved for those two at the end of the song speaks to perhaps a loathing of institutions and the reverance in which the heads are held) than it is about distancing ourselves from the old firm through daring to choose no sides but rather flicking the V to both.

If it's offensive to both the pope and the queen then that's an added bonus. Up them both.

We used to sing it too, and I was pissed off (still am a bit) that it got banned.

To the tune of "o Tannenbaum".

Hello hello how do you do? We hate the boys in royal blue, we hate the boys in emerald green, so f**k the pope and f**k the queen.

Its clearly not sectarian as saying "both sides of this binary argument can both do one" is more a commentary on the existence of the argument in the first place. Anyone claiming it is sectarian is clearly at it.

  8. If that's the case then it's a flaw in the world building. It's a great series and a fine story, but to invest in the world the viewer needs to be informed of the rules of that world. Just a few lines of exposition would have done it.

He wasn't clear whether the four weeks of "Teaching him about sectarianism." was trying to teach him how to be sectarian or how not to be sectarian

I'm hoping it's the latter but given that it's Ayrshire we can't assume anything

Aye if it's Kilmarnock with it's nice houses and theatre scene (seriously, Centre Stage do some great stuff) then it'll be wall to wall showings of "I'm no a billy he's a tim" and why we all just need to get along. If it's Kilwinning it'll be lessons on the correct way to hold a piccolo and how to button up.a tunic when you've no neck.

But that’s it, it’s not the 1960s. In the fallout timeline the bombs drop starting in 2077. It’s just an alternate timeline massively influenced by some aspects of 1950s-60s Americana. The games have tons of things referencing the time before the war but don’t tend to have the direct flashbacks to the past like the show does so it’s hard to say for definite whether there was as much direct racism as there was in the real world time it’s inspired by. There’s plenty of xenophobia, Red-scare attitudes and nationalism due to there still being so much war between countries before the bombs drop though.

Ah ok. I may have missed that at the very beginning. That makes sense.

Another thing that I don't think was explained was how Moldaver is still alive after a couple of hundred years given she seemed to be a surface dweller. I perhaps need to watch some bits again as I got distracted, but I do think there were bits they just didn't explain to those of us who never played the game.

  11. I don't play video games but I've heard great things about Fallout. This felt like a great way to get access to the world created. I enjoyed the protagonist and her journey. It's a classic hero's journey quest where our heroine is naïve and idealistic at the start but learns to adapt and grow up a bit. I enjoyed Walton Goggins too, obviously.

The performances are excellent and the soundtrack brings a gentle absurdity to proceedings without being tonally jarring. It felt like a mature series instead of one written by children who hate the source material (looking at The Witcher writers here).

If I had one tiny wee wrinkle it would be the depiction of racial diversity in the pre-apocalyptic world. I don't know if the game did this, so perhaps it remains faithful to that, but seeing so many people of colour in prominent roles (and a black and asian woman as the scientist couple) took me out of it a little as I know how racist America was back then, even California. It was the 1960's after all. It's perhaps a nod to the world building too, which could have had a little bit more exposition to it.

The writing of Lucy's character is a great example of how to write a female character. She was smart, resourceful and ultimately kind and noble, but she wasn't invincible. She messed up, got into scrapes and occasionally needed rescuing. It meant that there were genuine stakes and I was rooting for her the  entire time. The black male character is well written too. He's ultimately good too, but makes some very morally questionable decisions. His journey is also different in that he hasn't chosen it. I'm looking forward to seeing them both in the next season. It's always great seeing Kyle McLachlan in anything. A superb actor.

I mean, that is corporate superficial pandering and is the sort of parody I would expect from something like The Boys, but I was howling at "degeneracy and mutilation". Holy f**k.

    Couple of stories about my wee fella over the last month or so that shows he's growing too quick;

Got married to his class girlfriend at school before the Easter holidays

He was among thousands of Falkirk fans on Links Park and knows all the words to a number of the songs

Away on a caravan holiday in the first week of the Easter holidays and he took himself away to the grassy play area which had two sets of goals and played football with other kids. Up to about xmas time he would have wanted his mum or I to take him over and wait

He was doing Goalkeeping coaching through Falkirk Community Foundation since November but for a number of reasons - lack of coaches mainly - that all seems to be stopping. This week he has joined a local football team as a goalkeeper, gone to 1 training session and played his first ever match tonight. Very proud parent tonight

Not initially knowing that this was a fake school wedding really made its mark on how I read the rest 😂.
