  1. I really enjoyed it. First time seeing them live and I thought they were fantastic. The last train to Glasgow was at 5 past 11 so I had to miss the last 10-15 minutes or so which was a bit shit, especially since they seem to have been playing The Backseat in that period at their other gigs (haven't heard if they did last night), but other than that I've got no complaints at all. The ticket itself wasn't overly expensive - IIRC it was only about £25.
  2. The first support will be at 7.30, second at 8.20 and Gaslight at 9.30 if their past few gigs are anything to go by.
  3. Anyone else going tomorrow night?
  4. Yeah I think I can picture you. I was the one wearing the half black half white Ayr top and blue shorts. Yeah it was the best game we've had so far, and a few of the guys in our team were genuinely gutted at the end. We're in the same boat with not having a keeper and this is the first week we've had more than 6, which kind of ended up working against us since we had two complete diddies. Can't wait to play those Asian guys, just to see them celebrate up close.
  5. We're doing alright I suppose. In the three games I've played in so far we beat the girls 26-1 or something ridiculous like that and have lost by one goal in the other two. We lost 9-8 to the guys in the green kits today which was probably a bit unlucky but we're hamstrung by having a couple of particularly mince players. How are your team getting on?
  6. The 6s pitches are pretty big actually - a lot bigger than the 7s pitch at the Powerleague. They divide the 11s pitch at Garscube into 4 rather than it being actual dedicated 6s pitches, but the 11s pitch is so wide that there's plenty of space on each 6s pitch. I'd recommend the 6s league - this is our first time playing in it but it's been really good so far. The teams at the Powerleague seemed to be made up of guys who played competitively but so far this has mostly just been guys that are looking for a kickabout at a reasonable standard, which is much preferable for us since we're in the same boat.
  7. There are 6s leagues at Glasgow but not 7s. One of my friends at Strathclyde told me they have 5s leagues there but I've got no idea about 7s. The Powerleague run student leagues as well - we used to play 5s there but they might run 7s leagues as well.
  8. Literally came into this thread to post about this film, having watched it for the first time last night.
  9. Why would you go out of your way to undermine someone's prospective degree choice? It's a needlessly cuntish thing to do.
  10. I didn't play today due to illness, but I'm pretty sure we weren't playing girls. I'm told we lost 6-3, so if that was your scoreline then my team was probably the dross you were up against. What's your team name?
  11. Yeah we'll be able to get a lift most weeks, though not for this coming week. It's a minor grumble. The team fee is £100 for 14 games which is good value, but having to fork out £60 each for a sport and recreation membership makes it work out at about a fiver a game, which I suppose is pretty average.
  12. Partick Monkeys, I believe. honestrae95 will also be playing. No idea if we'll be any good - I haven't met half the team yet. It's really poorly advertised, and trying to actually organise a team is a pain in the arse. Glasgow's timetabling makes it pretty difficult to find a time when everyone can play, especially when everyone's taking different subjects, and just getting to Garscube seems like it'll be a pain in itself given its location and the lack of transport options from uni.
  13. Yeah that's what I thought. Got my most recent one on Thursday, tried it this morning for the first time and it already wasn't working. ScotRail are infuriatingly awful.
  14. What causes the magnetic strip to stop working on a train ticket? I've had my season ticket for 4 weeks now and in that time I've had 4 different tickets be rejected at the barriers. I don't keep it right next to my phone or wallet, is there something else that could be causing it or am I just constantly being given dodgy tickets?
  15. I've put Girvan across pretty badly to you but by the sound of things you could probably get by just fine there. It's got a few pubs (though I've never been in any of them) and a big Asda as well as the assortment of shops, so you probably wouldn't need to head up to Ayr all that often anyway. Maybole is just grey really. It has one grotty street of shops and the place just feels lifeless. You'd probably need to head into Ayr a lot more if you lived in Maybole rather than Girvan because there's a lot less in Maybole. Essentially, the only thing that Maybole has over Girvan is that it's closer to Ayr. All of the trains to Maybole stop at Girvan as well so there aren't any significant transport benefits to living in Maybole. Just don't move to Auchinleck whatever you do - it really is about as bleak as it gets.
  16. All three of them are pretty grim to be honest with you. They all have train stations so that's not an advantage of Auchinleck, though Auchinleck is the easiest one to get to Glasgow from if that matters to you. I'd say Girvan is the least shit, but that's not saying much. It at least feels like a town, with plenty of shops and some decent housing in parts. Girvan is the furthest from civilisation though; Ayr is the nearest 'big' town and it's about 20 miles away (half an hour on the train). In short, if I were you I wouldn't move to any of them, but if I had to pick one it'd be Girvan.
  17. Bump. Anyone at Glasgow ever done Exploring the Cosmos? Need a diddy 1st year course to do next semester and I've heard it's quite easy.
  18. Turns out it wasn't that major. I'd only seen that which didn't play a big role in the finale. What a finale it was though.
  19. Does anyone get hay fever at this time of year? If so, how varied are the symptoms usually? I've never had it before but my eyes are going wild at the moment, especially when I go outside. I don't have any other symptoms though which makes me wonder if it is hay fever or if I'm allergic to something else.
  20. In the Name of the Father - 9.5/10 Tremendous, really stirring stuff. The initial trial is one of the most emotive scenes I can ever recall watching in a film - the loathsome manner in which they portrayed the prosecution was absolutely perfect. A really, really good watch which I'd thoroughly recommend.
  21. The deputy is fantastic, better than the Amish girl imo. Irritatingly, I just checked Wikipedia to find out the name of the actress who plays Siobhan and saw a major spoiler for the season 2 finale. Baws.
  22. Nicked this from the Championship forum. Who is the best player you've seen play against your club? Hopefully the answers will be a little less predictable than some of the Championship ones. For me, the best player I've seen play against Ayr was Paul Pogba in a friendly versus a Man United XI a couple of years ago. Thomas Kuszczak and Darron Gibson were the other notable players to feature and Man United won 1-0 through an excellent long-range effort from Football Manager favourite Oliver Norwood. Over to you.
  23. Yep. Drongan isn't even close to being the worst place in East Ayrshire, never mind in Scotland.
  24. Yeah I think that is Jim's Bar. Only been in it once, during freshers week. Always seemed pretty deserted whenever I walked past but I guess it must liven up at night. I've never been in the beer bar when there's been a rugby game or wacky competition on but I can imagine what it must be like. Imagine not only hosting an 'Iron Stomach' competition but actually proudly displaying the winners' names on the wall. Dearie me.
