this is far from over. hinges on haddin most probably.
cook is a young and inexperienced captai and his series is the first time his bowlers havent taken wickets at will. rhis series wkll make him a better captain.

i always back runs on the board. fair play to them if aus knock them off but it will be a huge effort. enf just need to keep calm and make aus make the running

having to start again in the morning means this game is 60/40 england. if eng bat til lunch red hot favourites and if not still favourites.
surprised if pitch doesnt proper misbehave from here on in.
even with an anchor will be a great aus batting performance to keep series alive for them.

if England lose early wickets then I see it heading for a draw.
How's the weather looking?
there is no chance of a draw now bar weather. if eng lose early wickets it is a toss between them and if not it will be 3-0 this time tomorrow, mid tues at the very very latest.

for the first time in his career bell is showing that he can do it without someone else already having done it.
he has ddcided the ashes as without his runs aus would be in front

there are several changes for the better for aus:
katich
rogers
kawaja
clarke
hughes
watson
haddin or a better keeper and stuff the runs he has made so far
pattison
siddle
harris
lyon
but they wont and Eng will win in third gear. There is talk of a leggie coming from their a tour of zim.
even if they picked that team above eng will still win but they might have to avoid so many errors to do so.
aus have no reserves to call on at the mo and that makes ot hard to see how any changes will change the result. clarke must know how athers used to feel.

ok, maybe I would have been better to say, England are performing much lower than they have been say 6+ months ago and so the gap between the two sides is not as wide as we might otherwise expect it to be - Enf have not racked up the big 1st Inns scores they regularly have done in the last few years, so they are not in command after the 1st of 4 Inns like they were automatically for a while against everyone except RSA.
At the time, Eng winning in Ind and Aus getting slam dunked was a good barometer, but you just wondered if it was a) Aus being shit, b) new team that would improve, or c) Ind on the rebound to the Eng defeat at home. Evidence would say it was a).
When I was growing up and Aus were doing this to Eng, I waited on the day the tables turned, now it has it's not so much fun as I thought, but still rather be in this position than theirs. Never heard Glenn McGrath so humble as he has been on TMS in this match.

the problem with DRS and doubt about umpiring decisions now is, when people don't have a review left, they automatically assume they've had a duff decision. when he sees it later he'll be OK that the rightr call was made, but the dubious look there when he was given out says it all. people forget that an appeal automatically covers every possible method of dismissal, so even if he was adamant he didnt hit it (and he didnt), he was still out LBW.
I stil don't think there is a massive gap between the two sides on England's current form. It only takes another dodgy first Inns and suddenly for Clarke plus a n other to click and the series will stay alive. When England get their act together though, 5-0 is absolutely possible. That would be nice.

I think it was out (the sound couldn't have been anything else).
you do sometimes get the bat creaking between the handle and the blade so I dont think a noise on its own is enough.
btw didnt think haddin lbw was out either

exactly. gut sais it was out but no evidence that would warrant the original decision.
funny how it always goes with the team that is in deep shit and never the other way round.
the system is fine but the decision making from the third ump is incompetent.
