Interview with Curtis Main in The Courier on why he didn't re-sign with St Mirren:

He's not likely to turnaround and say 'the reason was Dundee were offering me more dosh'.

For what it's worth, I think he makes a good point and I've no doubt that was a big factor, but I'm pretty sure the deciding factor would be money.

The Fact that Henderson can't get game time at RC tells you he is not good enough at this level.

He'll drop down a league next season.

I think if he'd had more game time he might've kicked on a bit. He was really good in flashes for us, and he was excellent for Inverness.

He couldn't get in our team as he was never a wing back. This has been said before, but now we often play with a front three I'm certain he'd have seen more game time had he stayed with us, than he has at County.

I don't have notifications turned on @DeeTillEhDeh. I like him as a manager and I posted that in the County thread. I don't think he's a genius, but probably misunderstood. I just think he's very honest and direct which I think is better than the over media trained style.

Coming out with stuff like Morecambe 'are 100 times better' isn't being honest though. It's hyperbole (it's nonsense even) and you argued he said it to get a reaction. Which implied you didn't think he was being particularly honest either.

Some will relish that challenge, some will hate him. That's why the Derek Adams way won't work until he finds the players who respond well. You can't judge him in 2-3 months.

Maybe the players who don't like it are the problem. Brittain, Vigurs, Boyd, Gardyne, Lawson, Kettlewell, etc played their best football under Derek Adams.

Come on, this isn't a 'style', he's been an incoherent mess in these interviews. I haven't seen him show any kind of fight, he has blamed everyone but himself and essentially claimed that he won't be able to do anything about it. Implied one week that he maybe hadn't done enough research into what he was inheriting, then last night claimed he came into it with his 'eyes open'.

I'm all for giving managers time and actually think he probably needs at least a few weeks with his new signings to see if he can turn the results around, but let's not kid on that this is anything more than a struggling manager talking shite after some poor results.

See Jordan have made the final by bearing South Korea. Don't think many will have predicted that one

Korea were very fortunate to draw with Jordan in the group stage and stumbled through to the semis really.

I kept expecting them to hit a bit of form and win the whole thing but they've actually been really poor.

Klinsmann should probably get the bullet.

Telling everyone they were shit, then replacing them with absolute no marks on loan from the EFL, and then compounding that by sticking all the new players straight into the team with them likely still learning each others names.

    Brilliant management.

Not to worry though, he'll get an absolute fortune to do it all over again in the Summer/next January too.

I was going to play devil's advocate and say that he needs time to work with all the new signings, but it's difficult to argue with this point.

Highest earner at the club. Would most likely need to offer him higher to stay (if he wants to stay), since his performances have been absolutely solid since day 1.

I'd hope the only reason he moved on was to be closer to home or a last big pay day.

If we make one of those top 5 places this season, it may well be a deal breaker for next, and the fact he is getting international recognition whilst playing with us shows you don't need to be playing for one of the top clubs in the country.

It would be a big blow to lose him. I guess the fact it didn't work out for him at Hibs might mean that the bigger Scottish clubs might look elsewhere. That said, it seems Dundee and Kilmarnock are offering more money than us, so they might make a move.

I think a team in league 1 ib England, or somewhere abroad might be the most likely. As you say, he's earned a salary bump and if he needs to move down south or abroad for that then I certainly wouldn't hold it against him.

Fairly sure Miller was part of the dreadful Huddersfield staff that had them looking doomed, then Warnock came in, instantly improved them and kept them up.

He mentioned it on Sportsound and said that they did OK and would've definitely stayed up with or without sacking them and appointing Warnock.

He also said that Aberdeen would finish 4th no matter who the manager was, so he either doesn't know how football works, or how talking works.

Why is an Irish Rugby "expert" so heavily involved in BBC Scottish football? It makes no sense at all.  More sense than Pat Bonner being on the BBC I suppose but not more more.

I think English is alright. Part of his remit must be to try and noise people up a bit and argue against what others say. The national broadcaster should be above that, but it's 2024 and we need to justify everything with clicks and 'impressions'. His tweet about Warnock being a brect supporter (which we could've all guessed anyway) I'm assuming was some sort of twitter wind up, I don't use twitter so I don't know.

He has a reasonable knowledge of the teams he's talking about though and does a bit of research, which is more than I could say for some of the ex pros they have on Sportsound.

I'm not so sure historically it all favours the Premiership side with extra playoffs for the championship sides etc ( we have had it all before) fitness injuries etc plus the Prem side get the second leg at home so they know what is required at home.

There is a slight advantage for the Premiership side but I think it's overstated.

Teams in the Premiership play 38 games, the Championship it's 36. So, if the Championship side finished 3rd or 4th they'll have played 2 more games - if they finished 2nd it's the same amount of games.

I suppose the Premiership side will get more time off from when they finished their league campaign.

If the costs are seven figures then yes.

So, in essence, any season Aberdeen (or Hibs) don't finish top 3/4 then they should sack their manager? Or 2 managers? Doesn't seem like a great way to run a club.

And it's not like sacking the manager is a guarantee of a top 4 finish. It worked for Aberdeen last season. Doesn't look like it will work for Hibs this year.

Yeah without listening to the Ross one back today's interview did remind me of it.

That said I'm really not in the mood for sacking the guy. Poor form in football can sometimes be arrested, by sometimes for a variety of factors it just continues on and on, regardless of manager.

I'm not sure Foley will think this as he prepares to inject money into the club but I'd really prefer if we just toughed it out with Montgomery. I point to Robinson as a manager who came in mid season and managed to piss off a near majority of St Mirren fans. However the board stuck with him and they're now reaping the rewards.

Might be that Montgomery is shite, but given we've employed a rookie manager we don't really know that until we give him a proper go, that means until next January minimum.

I'd be very surprised if he gets that time, but it'd be nice to see the club have the courage of their convictions and not piss themselves whenever things go awry.

Montgomery struck me as someone who might instill a bit of fight, unlike Johnson. Didn't seem like Hibs had much fight yesterday.

You're right that you need to give him time though, the constant revolving door is not doing you any favours.

Robinson presided over a bit of a collapse when he first arrived at St Mirren. We went from being on target for top 6, to real danger of finishing 11th. The knives never really came out for him other than a few plonkers online.

I said on the Aberdeen new manager thread that too many clubs are chasing perfection, it's almost impossible for a manager of most teams in our league to have a poor season and not get binned. Sometimes clubs will have a poor season, is finishing 7th or 8th the end of the world for a Hibs or Aberdeen given the amount of changes they've made recently? Would it not be better to give someone a couple of seasons to try and build something and improve?

  13. There wasn't a bad performance in our team today and a few standouts. Scott still looks a bit short of fitness but I thought he did well. Kwon and Bwomono were both excellent.

Marcus Fraser deserves a mention, as he's been playing left side of the back three and still churning out his usual solid performances.

Caveat everything by saying that Hibs are an absolute gang, but a very good showing from an under strength side.

  14. Anyone else a bit pissed off that we didn't add to our tally?

Montgomery probably owes Robinson a few beers because if we'd come out the traps in the second half - rather than treating it like a training match - then he'd quite possibly be getting his jotters tonight.

To think Hibs sacked Jack Ross the season after a third place finish and a cup final (two cup finals?). The poor run that ended Ross couldn't have been worse than this?

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a player give less of a f**k than Dylan Levitt.

There was a St Mirren fan (can't remember who) on here during the close season that said we should have tried to sign Levitt. He was roundly mocked at the suggestion.

Levitt would genuinely be about our 5th choice central midfielder at the moment.
