The days of the journalist who has a contact book and actually speaks with people is long gone, and I doubt many of today's breed ever get off their arses to break a genuine story. The big clubs manage their news absolutely ruthlessly, whilst the rest of us are peddled rumour sufficient to fill an edition, ahead of becoming tomorrow's chip poke.

Whatever, I honestly think that for Stevie Aitken another season of keeping Dumbarton up will both develop him further as a Manager at this level and enhance his credentials for any eventual full-time move. And nothing will assist more than assembling a competent, balanced, squad – a big ask given the financial constraints. Let’s all now get right behind him and Faz.

The Herald (which I buy) couldn't break wind these days....last week it's reporter Derek Miller still had Stevie Aitken as Stranraer manager in the report of the Play-Off Final 1st leg, whilst on Saturday it had a piece on the return of the TS Queen Mary to the Clyde stating it was built in 1933 in 'The Glasgow Dockyard' (whatever the f*** that was) when every fule know she was vessel 1262 built at Denny's.

Id like to put in a word here for the Board of DFC. Having been in this sort of situation this time last year, here we are again, potentially seeing a managerial team exit. If that does happen it would be a compliment to their well-executed selection process, but even so it must be a pisser if they have to pull another rabbit out of the hat. If it comes to that we should wish them well and hope for a speedy resolution, if only for the sake of So8's mental state.

If I was on the DFC Board then I ‘d already be looking at Plan B. Correction, there should already be a Plan B, such are the comings and goings in modern football. If Stevie Aitken gets an interview with Raith then he’ll hear of a genuine expectation to finish in the play-offs with a full-time squad; that is in excess of Dumbarton’s ambitions, where survival with part-timers is no mean achievement. As such he’ll maybe feel that this offers him a significant opportunity in his career progression, and maybe the day job becomes less of an issue, but that’s still a big call. It may not be the first time that someone went into an interview with an open mind and came out feeling convinced, and I’d not be surprised either if he in turn convinces Raith that he is their man. Then again, he might decide to stay exactly where he is….all will be revealed.

East coast teams like Raith tend to favour East coast managers, and like yourself I'd be sceptical. Aitken has a f/t job with Rolls Royce in Inchinnan and his current situation is perfect both from a geographical and a career development perspective. Raith performed really well this season; get it wrong and by mid-October there could a baying mob marching up Pratt Street in Kirkcaldy Perfect opportunity for Edinburgh-based Ian Murray IMO.

The same one as Tony Wallace, but not quite as well.

Really sorry to hear that news.

I hope there are some hard decisions already being made around next season's playing squad, and especially with regard to who is being retained. There can be no room for misplaced sentiment. There will though be the usual budgetary restrictions, so the trick for the Stevies will be to build a much more balanced squad than this term. On the plus side they will surely have found this season invaluable in the learning process. Oh, and we need to tell Stuart Millar to stop offering trials to guys who put in his double glazing, or whatever

Livvy have just won at Falkirk , and you would have to say that the momentum now appears to be firmly with them. Our situation is not without hope but unless we have a go at teams, something we have conspicuously failed to do most of this season, then I fear we will slump into ninth place with all of the lottery that entails.

Three points about Jordan Kirkpatrick,:- 1. He was already here when Aitken needed to build a squad, ie he was not an Aitken 'pick'. 2. He's had ample opportunities this season to impress. 3. He is not a Championship quality player. The Kirk is dead, long live The Kirk.
