Last paragraph below talks about taking more control over money spent on cross border compensation. So only Dan Phillips and Bobby Dailly are potential there, with Nicky Clark also costing a fee.

Top paragraph shows wage change between seasons @SJFCtheTeamForMe

Aye, plus, given it is a rounded number, its not converted from Euros for example, so cross border transfer fee means to England. If we ended up paying a fee for Phillips, then not horrific business. But, if as folk are eluding to, it was Dailly, then wow.

I don't think they are man. Folk are being serious. It's staggering stuff.

There are so many ways in which we could improve McDiarmid at the fraction of the cost of building a completely new stadium (which would inevitably be shite btw). I've definitely moaned previously about this already:

    1) Get rid of yellow and red seats, change to blue and white.

    2) Put a section of rail seats in for a 'safe standing' area in the entire corner of the East Stand, covering a quarter of the stand.

    3) Brighten up the concourse. Paint murals, put pictures along the stands such as a historical timeline, put in new TVs for folk to watch when they get a pie.

    4) Make sure there's enough hot food for everyone pre-match and at half time FFS

    5) Build a proper club shop at the ground instead of that pishy wee box room in the Ormond. Embarrassing for a Premiership club.

    6) Tidy up the toilets and, as HSF suggests, adjust the temperature of the water accordingly so it doesn't feel like you are putting your hand into molten lava when you wash your hands.

All of the above points are relatively east and low cost to do. (Guessing the seats would be most expensive).

Re the club shop, I think there could be a multi purpose building thst could be a club shop and ticket office built that would free up the existing space for other uses (mainly hospitality).

I've thought for ages, that the changing rooms for the astro pitch are a waste of space and would be much better either reducing the amount or doing something clever where they go into somewhere in the other 3 stands and just needs reconfiguring on a matchday.

One thing that has always puzzled me is that do we have some dead space in the main stand somewhere. Where the police box and press boxes are, either side of those where it is brick wall, there much be some sort of cavity that you could build hospitality boxes into?

Anyway, the new owner(s) will absolutely be looking at increasing the matches revenue and if what I understand about the community hub plan comes to pass, they will get some additional space to use as a result of that.

  3. For me, build an 8k stadium with corners filled in. Best place to build it would be the old railway sidings between Tulloch works and Dunkeld Road. Not likely to have houses able to be built there, so land would be cheaper. Also right on a rail like, so can stick a small platform there too. Small bit of trivia here, Saints actually used to have a station for muitron Park a few hundred yards along. Can still see the briked up entrance on the bridge between rigs Road roundabout and Dunkeld Road roundabout.

Site would be walkable to town, multiple entrances and leaves room for car park too.

Depending on cost, if club was really ambitious, you'd build an 8k indoor stadium. Could double up as an events venue and would allow for more use all year round. Downside would mean probably an artificial pitch.

What I do think is 'realistic' is a new owner lookimg at McD and thinking for not a massive cost, you could re clad it, replace seats and increase the catering facilities. Quicker turnover at pie stalls means more spend. Personally, I'd remove the turnstiles in the east and stick blocks where the security bit currently is. Would mean they could use the space behind the stand for retail on match days.

During all our financial issues Sainties fans have continually held the Dundee supporters culpable, that we somehow looked the other way because we were desperate for success.

By this logic you should be up at the McDiarmid with your pitchforks demanding answers.

If anyone thinks Geoff Brown is going to leave a single penny behind that the new owners could asset strip they are totally deluded. He will take the lot, shirt, simmet and drawers, and you can easily see how he would think he's entitled to.

This shows up your complete lack of knowledge of Saints tbh.

Brown has taken sod all out of the club. Snr and Jr both even paid their own way on European trips (that's those games abroad you get when you are successful, not a pokey friendly with Crystal Palace).

First admin, you could almost excuse you guys as it was all unknown and exciting. 2nd one is totally on you guys as fans.

As for the likely takeover at Saints, yes, it comes with risks, but the big difference is that we have an owner selling the club, that has been very successfully run over nearly 40 years, cash in bank and massive land value built up. He wouldn't risk any of that, especially as he isn't making anything from it. A new owner would literally need to change nothing and would make a profit from Saints given Harris has or will sort the one year of losses we have had.

Now off you pop and support you team in its very successful (relative to you guys) season and get all excited over your wee CGI stadium pre merger. 😀

  5. It's all part of the plan to join the Dundee and United merger and play at a super stadium in Erroll! 😆

I think unlike others, it seems Brown is very conscious of what kind of new owner we get. Probably rules out folk looking to make any kind of quick money from us from the land and doesn't sound like a plaything, so will be someone who has plans, but not massive changes I'd suspect.

I welcome anyone with some drive into the club, but I dont want to hear false promises of new stadiums or big grand plans. Bit of investment in and around the stadium and some additional revenue streams and I think most fans would be content.

Been said on here many times. Can see there being a large drop off in season ticket sales next season. VAR is killing the game for people in attendance at the stadium. The second penalty today was dreadful, how long after the incident was the penalty given?

This has to brought up at the open night to hear the clubs thoughts on it. We obviously aren’t getting the breaks from it now but even when it goes for us it’s just a shit experience.

It should be a massive concern to the club, the number of people in the same boat re ST's is staggering. Almost better for the sales if we were relegated, which nobody wants, but at least would bring a freshness. There is no team in the league that brings anything different or fresh. Would be interesting to see how many times we have played Motherwell and Aberdeen since we last got promoted. Must be well over 50 each in a 15 year period?

Throw in the horrific football over last 3/4 years and complete paralysis in terms of future of the club and I'm not sure what would make anyone want to sign up, other than blind loyalty. VAR nonsense for many might just be the final tipping point.

  7. In isolation, the performance wasn't horrific, but feels that in every game, we are either 'not bad' against better teams or have a period vs lesser teams where we drop a level or two and get punished.

I'll put up with the negative football if we stay up, given where we are, but it has to be a means to an end and no more.

If we do stay up, then second we are safe, club needs to start building for future.

I don’t really like penalties given like that. It’s never deliberate and always comes down to a refs interpretation as to whether they’ve made their body unnaturally bigger.

He was throwing himself to block the ball with his back turned.

100% this. Whole purpose of penalties is to penslise the defensive team when they are deliberately fouling the attacking team. Tiny nudges on the edge of the box when player is going away from goal or a tiny touch on the back is not what it is intended for. Equally applies to an offside where the player in a millimetre offside 40 yards from goal.

The 2nd penalty today could be argued away as his arm moves the direction of the ball, but when a player is jumping, with his back turned to the ball, he isn't intentionally getting his arm in the way to block the ball. You'd argue from a defensive point of view that he shouldn't turn his back anyway, but still.... would love the ref to explain what Robinson should have stuck his arm given he was turned away and falling down? Presumably should just faceplant?

Can't argue that Rangers deserved the win, or that the first was a clear penalty. Why the ref shat it and didn't give it immediately is beyond me tbh.

  9. In theory, VAR if used sparingly and properly should not be an issue, but it never has been and never will. I was positive on it before it was introduced as I thought it would be a leveller, but it's just not.

If it was just to check for factual things, like, was the foul inside the box or was the ball out of play before a goal, then fine. But, at every single goal, they are looking for a reason not to give it. Its killing the game. VAR for anything other than factual checks should only be used if a ref has genuinely missed something and therefore cannot take a view and should only be applied if he asks specifically for it.

It's not a great watch in TV, but as a fan in the ground, it is horrific. Vs Dundee on Sunday, no one had a clue what the check was for. Tannoy didn't work, so whatever they tried to announce the check for, no one heard it.

Only way for change is for fans to vote with feet. Either a boycott of a round of games or demanding refunds when a decision is proven to be wrong and influenced a game.

By not having VAR or having our own slimmed down VAR, Scottish football would be the better for it. I couldn't give a toss if it means our refs don't get to officiate European games or Fifa/Uefa look down on us. I'd imagine from other fans in other countries, there would be a respect for Scottish football.

    Ha ha, fair play.

Dundee the better side, so Saints can't argue with the result in the slightest.

Thought we would have absolutely robbed you guys if we had won that game and even a draw would have been a kind result for Saints.

There was no point in that game where Dundee weren't on top and Saints just couldn't get to grips with the balls into the box.

Haven't seen the VAR decision back, but it probably provided the innevitable breakthrough.

Contract extension announced on the 19th December. Since then he played:

55 minutes vs Rangers on December 20th (sub after DJ red)

74 minutes vs Kilmarnock on December 23rd (start)

10 minutes against Livingston on December 27th (sub)

2 bench appearances since them but no game time (Ross County and Hearts). Definitely a waste of time, perhaps they weren't confident of signing new strikers yet?

I think that is pretty much the case. Signed as at that time we had little other options, but now Levein has his players in, unlikely to get game time.

  12. That's a pretty solid loan signing for you guys. As above, he's not some flying wing back, but if you want just an out and our right back, he will be pretty decent.

When he first came in, he looked like he might develop into a decent enough premiership RB or RCB, but has stalled a bit and played in a position he clearly wasn't comfortable with. When confident and played in proper position, he is at a level somewhere between Championship and Premiership. If thst helps...

The ref was quite clearly waiting to see what the offside decision was.

VAR never told him to give it ffs. He's realised it was off and he should've booked him.

I dint think he can book him after the VAR review though. He either needed to book him before and it is upgraded to a red or if it was offside the yellow would still stand.

He cannot wait until the VAR check is done to decide if it is yellow or red. I agree if the ref could, a yellow for essentially booting the player after the move had ended would be right, just that he couldn't do what he actually did. Ironically there was a clear offside in the first half, the linesman didn't flag, the game went on and the saints player got a yellow.

The fact no one has a clue really as to what was correct shows how much of a farce it is. VAR isn't the problem, it's how it's used.

  14. Thought 1-0 was probably a fair result over all. Hearts never really threatened much, but we're never threatened themselves much. That extra bit quality tells.

Big drop off in quality in Saints midfield when you remove Phillips and Smith.

VAR again being a joke. None of the checks were particularly obviously incorrect, yet took far too long and the booking for McGowan, was a joke. Fans in the ground for all teams are an afterthought so some power hungry guy watching a monitor in Glasgow can feel important.

Focussing on his interviews misses the point, he recruited badly in the window and brought them in too soon, but over and above that he puts out a team that is disorganised and without any semblance of effective tactics. When things go wrong and he tries to change it, it is at best ineffective and as often makes it worse.

You could argue thst his interviews possibly made the recruitment more difficult as harder to persuade a player to up sticks to Highlands while telling them the team and league is a pile of Shite.

@RandomGuy. is trying really, really hard to say Dundee can get into a relegation scrap.

After spending the vast majority of the season saying they'll be nowhere near it.

I suppose if Saints are in the scrap, then so are Dundee. Only 2 points apart. I'd go with the view that as it stands, Dundee down are currently at risk of 11th, but probably 3 wins for any team, coupled with County not picking up much and they are safe.

The curveball is if/when County get rid of Adams.

  17. Against the whole theme of the season up until now, I'm going into this one pretty confident of Saints coming away with at least a point. Compared to where we were, we look much more solid and for the first time in a long time, feels like we actually have options going forward, both in terms of personnel and formation.

Saints will likely start with one up top, probably Benji and get balls fired in behind the defence and let him run onto them and when he tires, bring Sidibeh on and let him do the same. Unless we go behind and Levein fires both on.

Odds on Shankland will score, so going for a 3-2 to Saints with Zander cocking up a standard cross to gift Saints a free header.

Hearts really seem to be clicking as a squad now and good for them for sticking with Naismith, starting to get the benefits now. Can't see anyone getting close to them in the table now, so in a little league of their own now for 3rd spot.

Turner Cooke and Costelloe out with Adama and Kimpioka in in forward areas looks at least the same, probably better for us as they're our players. Smith as an attacking midfielder looks okay and Keltjens is a definite upgrade on what we had. Kerr Smith is a decent player but I struggle to see when he gets a game if no one is injured. Levien says no but you can't help think he was a replacement for Robinson.

Good point about them being our players. I don't think they are downgrades in anyway on the loan players, but we get the benefit that if they come good, we either get them for longer and/or we get a fee.

Phillips is the example we should be selling to some of these guys. Young age, but career stalled a bit. A good run in the team and he looks like he is moving upwards in his career.

What is good, is that none of these signings are older and expensive

  19. 1 hour ago, Dick Van Dyke said:

What’s peoples opinion then? Is the squad stronger that it was at the start of the window?

I think it is marginally stronger. No one who has left will be missed and ideally a couple more out the door I'd what the club would have wanted.

In terms of incoming, there is a risk with the strikers brought in. The Israeli seems an upgrade on Brown and haven't seen enough of the Smiths to make a call.

I'd say all the signings aside from the Israeli are lacking in terms of experience and so might make for some unpredictability in performances.
