  1. No I said there are plenty of young folk who are engaging in the arguments. I never said they were just Yes voters but in my experience most of the politically aware kids are planning to vote Yes. Again, in my experience most of the disengaged or misinformed kids are voting No. But there are plenty of exceptions.
  2. Yeah marketing these days is very slick. And Team GB has been giving it big licks for the last 5-10 years. There are plenty of young folk that are making up their own minds and engaging in the arguments but there are large swathes that are falling for the negativity and buying into the brand.
  3. This is the kind of thing that makes me so angry. I don't entirely know why because its not in any way a surprise. But just seeing this kind of ridiculous wealth brings it home just how fucking disgusting our inequality is.
  4. Braveheart was 19 years ago. 19. Many school pupils (especially of voting age) have seen it but plenty have not. That was the late 90s tendency but since then the Team GB propaganda really has made headway. I don't understand it myself but hey ho, that's what it is. Whether or not they'll turn in large numbers depends on how well the Yes argument is put across. Many kids will not engage with this until the final few weeks of the campaign.
  5. You're twisting it too much. Its not that far away from someone saying that a Yes vote is a vote against the English (although I admit, not quite as blatant).
  6. Dodgy dossier anyone? The public are fairly easy to dupe if you have the right spin doctors and a cozy relationship with newspaper oligarchs. But hey ho they won two elections so all is fine with democracy in Britain.
  7. It was a strange debate to bring into a thread about the death of Tony Benn - that's for sure.
  8. Er...OK. I know its a weird concept but there's 7 billion folk on this planet and if we all liked the same shit it would be a tad boring.
  9. Nah for me there's no middle. I married this woman and that's pretty much that. No split loyalties. I would never let my mum say anything negative about my wife.
  10. I would doubt those claims. Don't get me wrong I am convinced that there will be a some figures that 'prove' this, but that's because all the emphasis was put on those figures to prove that they git results. Folk play this game all the time and its infuriating. You also can't be fine with the fact that the investment was basically just borrowed. And we know how that worked out.
  11. Aye but I'd suggest you have to take your wife's side...always. Marriages are never good when the wife feels like she's in competition with the mother-in-law. That can never end well. As others have said give all your focus to your wife and child and hopefully your mum will come round.
  12. I think she's alright. She has a style of her own which is a nice change from the usual bland TV presenters. She also did a cool show about historic eating habits.
  13. Blair and Brown would both do 'anything' that would win votes - and followed short-term policies which only helped create the economic mess we have now. Yes they increased funding in both health and education but how did they pay for it? They didn't - and the debt rose during a time of economic growth. More people owning their own homes and striving for the unattainable next rung on the ladder - saddling themselves with more debt to do so. Consumer society. Class sizes are not coming down. There was some movement in those areas but due to the economic collapse (when Labour were in office) the cutbacks in education and health are starting to really hit hard. Changing the wallpaper to cover up the cracks is about spot on. Benn saw through all this. He wasn't alone of course, but there wasn't enough voices like his.
  14. Tony Benn was an incredible politician. The voice of the left-wing, and a voice that demanded to be listened to. There's always something mightily impressive when MPs get to a stage that they command respect from the whole House. He had it. The numpty on the first page who prefers the Browns and the Blairs of this world makes me despair for the human race.
  15. That's not true. Its not even nearly true.
  16. Come on boys just grow a pair...I dare you to (might as well try the old school-boy tactic of getting someone to do something they don't want to) You're scared tae vote Yes.
  17. I watched The Way Way Back last night and absolutely loved it. I can't recommend it highly enough. Steve Carrell plays an absolute blinding part as a dick of a step-dad. The lad that is the main character is also outstanding and a general feel-good film all-round. For some reason it made me think of Good Will Hunting. Another classic.
  18. 200 days is a long time in something like this. Plenty of folk aren't giving this serious thought so the real action will be in the last month or so. I think the Yes campaign are having to withstand heavy pressure but that was always going to be the case. BT seem to be trying to land a knock-out blow but that doesn't seem to have worked either. All to play for.
  19. As far as I can see nobody is really saying that Yes is in the lead right now. There's still quite a long time to go - and there are a few small signs that the gap is narrowing. The BT campaign is also starting to look a little rattled by throwing ultimatums and threats into the mix, which usually isn't a good sign. I still think it will be very close. Yes still have it all to do but I'm still quite hopeful.
  20. The fermers being against progressive, democratic change? Who the f**k could've predicted that.
