Heard the Tiffoney thing mentioned a few times. What happened there?

He left Ayr, Dundee wanted to sign him but wouldn't pay any compensation fee and he ended up signing for Limerick. IIRC Limerick weren't due any compensation as Ayr had missed the date for offering him a new contract (which was different to the date for domestic transfers, which we also missed but were later given dispensation due to being involved in the play-offs). Anyway, within a couple of months he signed for Alloa as an amateur.

    http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/league1/4759886/Jons-tiff-with-Ayr-so-costly.html

I don't actually recall how it was resolved.

  2. Interesting stuff from yer man in the Reporter.

    SPFL Rules:

F13 - If, in the opinion of the Board, a Contract of Service has been agreed or amended with the purpose or effect, in whole or in part, of avoiding or evading the payment of Compensation in accordance with the intent of the provisions of these Rules, the Board shall require the Club concerned to pay to the Club entitled to Compensation
the amount of Compensation which a Compensation Tribunal considers ought to be paid.

Main issue: does the above rule apply in this circumstance and have Dumbarton broken it?

    Secondary issues are: a) should compensation really be payable in these circumstances (and there is an issue about restricting a players movement - this has occurred at Ayr with a number of players) and;

    b) should clubs be allowed to sign players as amateurs to avoid compensation payable under the current rules.

So it's okay to not hand over money to Celtic but it's morally wrong when it's Annan? Bit of a strange outlook. Fox even came through Celtic's youth system, unlike Todd who got paid to do a job. Celtic would've invested far more in Fox than Annan did with Todd.

You can't compare taking a fallen apple from the King's orchard to stealing food from the mouths of bairns.

  4. Has anyone got one? Used one? Thinking about getting one?

I can see the value in having one to check notifications without having to pull your phone out your pocket and for telling the time, and they're not that expensive (£100 - £200) in the grand scheme of things, so I'm giving consideration to the Pebble Steel or the Moto 360.

Of course Apple have also got the 'Watch' on the way, but I wouldn't be interested in that.

  5. Beer: Black Isle Organic Blonde

    http://www.blackislebrewery.com/collections/frontpage/products/blonde

Abv: 4.5%Style: Golden AleAromas: Hoppy, citrus and a little biscuityTaste: Citrus fruits, initially sweet but with a crisp, dry finish

Overall: I like this one a lot, it's really drinkable and refreshing. I think it's the first Black Isle beer I've tried which is a surprise because they're readily available, but I'll be trying more of them. Enjoying this one.

Had a bottle of this the other day... forgotten how good it is. Struggling through a disappointing Lomond Gold at the moment, I'm sure it normally tastes better than this. Has anyone experienced variation in the quality of bottled beers they drink regularly? Is it possible?

  6. What's the protocol for tweeting at people who you don't follow/they don't follow you?. I've gone on the assumption that everybody is fair game but some people take exception to their views on subjects, aired on a public medium, being scrutinised at any level.

If its Old Firm fans get fired right in.

  7. What a fantastic thread. Inspired, I headed off to my favourite shop, the Scottish Real Ale Shop at the Lade Inn near Callendar to pick up a few bottles - trying to avoid those readily available in the Supermarket.

Just found out about a new brewery in Stirlingshire yesterday. Place in Perth has their gear in. Think I'm gonna get some tonight and give it a try.

    Fallen Brewing Co

The name of the brewery (Traditional Scottish Ales) and the label made me worry it was one of those shitey things they market towards tourists but this was nicer than I expected.

I've always avoided TSA for this very reason! However, I thought £1.29 for 500ml wasn't too bad even if it is shite, so I bought Lomond Gold.

Beer #1 was from the aforementioned Fallen Brewery, whose beers are actually brewed by TSA for the timebeing.

    Beer: Grapevine

    Abv: 5.4%

    Style: Pale Ale

Aromas: "Has an almost vinous aroma" according to the website.

Taste: The dominant flavours are: floral, citrus, tropical, fruity, bitter

Overall: This was up there with the best Pale Ales I've had such as Arran Blonde and Edinburgh Gold. Quite strong I think for a Pale Ale but very drinkable (no harsh, bitter aftertaste) and I'll certainly be on the look out for it on draught.

  8. I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices cried out in anger and were hosed down in bullshit and corporate speak.

@bbcjimspence - Neil Doncaster about to start presentation to SFL.

    Oh, that'd explain it......

    Hi Diddies!

Neil here to tell you you're all f*cked if you don't allow Rangers into the First Division. F*cked. Dead. Gone. Football is over because we will lose lots of money. Money. It's all about the money, money, money. Honey. Did I mentioned the inevitable FINANCIAL ARMAGEDDON?

  9. Fair enough, anyway point was I hadn't seen it discussed anywhere previously, and it's of considerable importance.

The Scottish Premier League Limited would be re-named The Scottish Professional Football League Limited (“SPFL”) and would comprise 4 divisions.

    It says:

The Scottish Premier League Limited would be re-named The Scottish Professional Football League Limited (“SPFL”) and would comprise 4 divisions.

    and

The 30 clubs joining from the SFL and comprising divisions 2, 3 and 4 (perhaps to be called the “Scottish Championship”, “Scottish League One” and “Scottish League Two”)

I was referring to its inequity. Hardly an attractive proposition to SFL clubs.

Do you think if that structure existed today, the likelihood of Rangers playing in the "Scottish Championship" next season would be much greater?

  10. I'm pleased to see the return of the phrase...

    FINANCIAL ARMAGEDDON

    © Nei Doncaster

...in the Record today. I wonder who the source might have been?

Berwick Rangers Supporters Trust is to meet on Wednesday to formulate a position - that isn't big news, but the statement includes downloads of BOTH documents the SFL clubs are consulting on. One is the bulletpoint list of financial etc. items, but the other is the proposed governance structure of a united body. I don't think it's been in public domain previously?

    http://www.berwickrangers.org/sfl-newco-proposals/

    Main features:

    * SPL is renamed SPFL, and SFL wound-up

    * 12 clubs in SPFL Premier hold 'A' shares; 30 clubs in SPFL Championship, League One, League Two hold 'B' shares

    * Qualified Resolutions require 11-1 majority of A shares, where affecting them; and 3/4 of B shares, where affecting them

    * otherwise 8-4 majority of A shares; 2/3 majority of B shares

    * Main Board comprises Chairman, CEO, 3 Premier reps, 2 lower-level reps, 2 independent directors

    * Chairman + 1 independent appointed by Premier clubs; 1 independent appointed by other clubs

    * Operational Board One deals with Premier + Championship... Chairman, CEO, 2 Premier reps, 1 Championship rep

    * Operational Board Two deals with League One + League Two... Chairman, CEO, 2 League One reps, 1 League Two rep

It strikes me, on first reading, that this is somewhat weighted towards SPFL Premier clubs. Not particularly equitable.

It was included at the bottom of Clyde's statement. Less SPFL more SPL3 and 4.

Edit: bunglebounce beat me to it while I was formatting FINANCIAL ARMAGEDDON.

  11. What are the likely outcomes of tomorrow's SFL meeting, do we think?

Would like: Categorical 'nae chance' to Rangers entering SFL1, leaving SPL with the decision to either go against the wishes of supporters or condem newco to the Third Divsion, resulting in "financial collapse", £16M "taken out the game", etc.

Expect: Delaying tactics. Something about requiring further information, there not being a vacancy, etc: 'After you, SPL'.

  12. Anyone ever look at the Goal.com website?

Not sure WTF this is all about: Rangers FC: An Apology.

On Monday June 25 a senior member of the Goal.com editorial team posted a message on twitter in which he appeared to support Scottish football clubs voting against the application of Rangers to be reinstated into the Scottish Football League.

The editor had intended to highlight the situation the club faces by sarcastically underlining the wish of rival fans to push for Rangers exclusion. He accepts that his tweet did not express the intended sentiment, was quick to apologise and delete the offending tweet.

Goal.com, the Perform Group and all our associates wish to apologise and make clear to all Rangers supporters and anyone connected with the club that we do not hold this view.

Someone needs to get them telt.

  13. Any humility or contrition from the Daily Record this morning following the Ally McCoist story?

Any acknowledgement they'd been used by 'Team Walter'?

Or are they, as I expect, lauding the return of the Messiah and wholly complicit in the whole sorry mess?

Roddy Forsyth was an interesting listen on 5 Live last night.

Edited: Holy f**k I've just looked online. The latest from Traynor:

Walter Smith: I heard mate crying because he feared for Rangers' future and I knew he had to act

(I'm not sure that even makes sense?)

  14. Makes a lot of sense.

BUT what happens the following season?

Bottom club in Div 3 relegated? Might be Rangers

IF newco Rangers were in a position to apply to join ahead of Season 13/14 they could be invited to apply, along with another side to ensure an even number of teams. This would require a degree of league reconstruction (and would benefit from the introduction of relegation from the 3rd) but I think there is an appetite for that.

  15. The SPL, then the SFL, neither known for speedy decision making, are quickly running out of time to 'deal' with the newco Rangers situation IMHO. It's eight weeks on Saturday until the SPL & League Cup starts, with the SFL kicking-off the following weekend yet we're, what? A week away from the SPL making a decision? I don't think anyone can say with confidence Rangers will be in a situation to compete in (and complete) ANY competition next season.

Forget relegation to the Third Division - whatever the proceedural mechanism (via the SFA?), the best thing going forward in the short-term would be to suspend newco Rangers from all competition next season.

The longer this drags on, the more the uncertainty effects every league club in Scotland. Invite applications to join the Third Division for season 12/13 and leave those in Govan to sort their own mess out without it impacting on Scottish football.
