  1. The standard of grammar in adverts, especially radio adverts is a disgrace.

Go Compare - the secateurs one - "will not hasten to use" does not mean you will use them, you mean "will not hesitate"

Subway - the all knowing being who doesn't know how they set their prices - whilst one who is omnipotent might reasonally be expected to know everything the word you are looking for is omniscient

There are loads but those are just two i heard on the way to work this morning and now raging.

I am sure I heard the truly appalling 'more healthier' in one of those probiotic yoghurt commercials. Almost choked on my Yakult, I did.

  2. When season ticket money will come in, it will be used as cash in the bank. What I expect deferred income to be is money that will be accrued throughout the rest of the football season from people who pay at the gate and not season ticket money of people who have paid for this season in full already..

Accounting rules mean that revenues and expenses have to be matched in the periods they occur, regardless of when the cash changes hand. The deferred income will be the percentage of the total season tickets sales that relates to matches that haven't taken place in the reporting period (money received that hasn't actually paid for goods or services yet). You are not allowed to account for possible future ticket sales (future gate receipts). Hope that helps.

  3. Morning! No real surprises yesterday, other than a fine given to a penniless company in liquidation. Trolling from Nimmo-Smith? Beautifully done if so.

I think the most interesting thing will be Scottish Football's next 'insolvency event'. I can't help but think that the authorities have now backed themselves into a corner. In the past there were some pretty clear dis-incentives to going out of business. Loss of 'history', loss of your name, and most importantly loss of your league status (Gretna and Airdrieonians being the two most recent who were told to GTF as a 'warning' to other clubs to keep solvent). Now it has gone the other way. The only 'punishment' in place is being shoved into the bottom league. That in itself, I believe, creates an incentive for clubs to engage in financial mismanagement, especially if they are already in the lower leagues. How could the authorities justify not treating another club like they have treated Rangers?

  4. Car Problem: My exhaust pipe has detached at one end (the front) but is still attached to the back of my car. Is it OK to drive it like this to the garage? The pipe has moved out of it's normal housing and is slightly wedged under the back of my car (at aroung 90 degrees to where it would normally sit).

  5. They used to be worth it if you took a small bag and didn't expect anything you wouldn't get on a bus. I got a return from Manchester to Bremen once for £3.20, all in. Now the total can be more than British Airways. Although 1.08 - 1 isn't too bad, until recently it was 1-1.. Is your flight's first leg from outside the UK, by the way? If not, you're on the wrong bit of the site.

Yes, flight is from outside the UK to Glasgow. British Airways was actually cheaper but wasn't direct.

  6. Debt is only part of a business's liabilities. For example, Celtic's debt was said last year to be about £7 million. However, their total liabilities were around £44 million.

What's the distinction though? I'll give you a clue: Debt is money or resources that will be transferred out of the company at some point in the future. A liability is money or resources that will be transferred out of the company at some point in the future.

  7. Yes it was a bank debt but it was a debt that was being serviced year on year,Whyte however brought this club more debt upon it with the Ticketus debt,HMRC debt, football debts. Within a 9 month period he added to the debt of the club by bringing in this debt. The PLC was liquidated for the approx sum of £56 million, although the potential EBT debt was put forward for voting purposes by HMRC. Whytes actions brought on the liquidation and there is no way he reduced that debt. Now maybe my figures are out, although i don't think i am with the £56 million.

My point was that the £18million was only a part of the debt when Whyte took over. If you were comparing like with like (bank debt with bank debt) then the correct line is 'Craig Whyte took over when the debt was £18million but this was zero when Rangers were liquidated'.

  8. Nonsense, when Whyte took over The Rangers Football Club PLC had a debt of £18 million, which was being reduced year on year. The PLC were liquidated to the sum of £56 million, £27 million Ticketus,£7.5 million Debenture holders, £15 million approx. to HMRC PAYE & N,I.,the balance to all other creditors including season ticket holders and football debts. Whyte is responsible for bring in the debt from Ticketus and HMRC which was a total of approx £42 million. Murray made it part of the sale that Whyte cleared the bank debt,£18 million, but was negligent in ensuring Whyte cleared this with his own money.

Hello, long time lurker blah, blah, blah...

I felt the need to join up after, to my surprise, nobody picked up on this particularly sizeable open goal which was set up yesterday. Use of an £18million figure for this comparison is erroneous at best. This was a bank debt, but you are comparing it to the total liabilities at liquidation. In fact, having a look at the last accounts before Whyte came in (http://www.isdx.com/infostore/Company-Accounts/RangersFootball/rangers2010.pdf) Rangers liabilities were £65million (p.28 note 15 & 16). Therefore assuming your £56million is correct then Craig Whyte actually reduced debt during his tenure.
