  1. Tried a Beef Massaman Curry today.

For the paste I liquidised half a cup of peanuts and cashews with:

A tablespoon of peanut oil, 2 tablespoons of fish sauce, 3 shallots, 5 garlic cloves, 2 birdseye chilis, 1 scotch bonnet, a Leigh Griffiths size piece of ginger, a lemongrass stalk (finely chopped), 1 teaspoon coriander, 1/2 tablespoon cumin seeds, 1/2 tablespoon ground cumin, 2-3 cloves, 2-3 cardamon pods, 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg.

Then I browned a packet of beef in some more peanut oil and a chopped onion, added a few halved baby potatoes, then the paste, warmed that and added a tin of coconut milk and 1 tablespoon of fish sauce. Stuck in a star anise and a few kaffir lime leaves and put it on medium until the meat is ready. I will stick some more cashews and peanuts in shortly before serving. Maybe some lime juice too.

It smells and tastes absolutely amazing - can't wait 'til dinner time. :thumsup2

  2. Any idea who 'the finance leases' secured against assets (as mentioned in the accounts) belong to?

Repayments (roughly half a million or more a year) ... * cough *

I would guess that the Newco made good on the existing Close Brothers finance. I'm sure that was for catering equipment and the like, and I doubt it would have been beneficial for Close to go in and rip out all the stuff that they had a security over, as well as being a huge pain and cost for Rangers to get it all replaced.

They provide finance at high interest rates for people that wouldn't get the money elsewhere so the above would fit the set of circumstances pretty well.

  3. Anyone notice clues in the accounts regarding this ... or did he abandon that plan?

I'm fairly sure the 'Group' is made up of the holding company, the 100% owned 'football' company (the 'club'), a 100% owned security company, and 50% of a merchandising joint venture.

ETA: I was close: The holding company owns the football company and a dormant company 'Rangers Media Ltd'. The football company in turn owns the security company (100%) and 51% of Rangers Retail Ltd.

It is all in note 13 of the accounts, p.38.

  4. I much prefer a face turn at the end of a PPV, preferably announced by hitting a baddie over the head with a folded down ('unforgiving steel'!) chair, or doing a really slow three count to help out a goodie if you're the referee.

Announcing it at a press conference was a major let down IMO.

  5. Just discovered the absolute joy of adding a splash of balsamic vinegar to a basic tomato-based pasta sauce. Lifts what would otherwise be a run-of-the-mill pasta dish into absolute heaven.

Add some of the water you have cooked your pasta in and you're on to a serious winner.
