Anyone know why David Watson did nothing other than get rinsed repeatedly despite being the best young midfielder in the country?

With the best will in the world, Wilson's surely only there because he's a big strapping boy with a left foot and there's basically nobody else? He's doing admirably in a position that really doesn't seem to suit his game but I'm assuming that once everyone else is fit his role in the squad will be second choice LWB.

I'm not sure if this makes me more or less tribal but I'm pretty sure a player could spit on the Motherwell badge and call me a p***k and I'd still happily have them back if I thought they'd improve us. I was raging when Watt left and laughed immensely when he got sent off against us and relegated but I honestly don't think I ever really took it as a perceived slight at Motherwell Football Club rather than a bigger team taking our best player and a footballer moving for a higher wage. I've booed him everytime he came back to Fir Park and probably called him snake multiple times but I wouldn't say I really believed it, in the same way that if he does well here I'll be saying "Tony Watt ripped the pish out of Dundee United for 2 years for a laugh then came back to Motherwell and started trying again" while knowing that isn't true either.

I think Watt's played with more of our current squad at other clubs- Gordon, Callachan (St Johnstone) and Nicholson (Hearts)- than at Motherwell (just Slattery and SOD if I'm right?) He's only been away two years

I honestly don't think there's any doubt about his quality at this level, or at least there wasn't a year ago when he last played at it. He was basically a 7/10 for us as soon as he came in the door, with a 10/10 last few months. Maybe he saved his best performances for games against us, but my impression of his time at United and St Mirren is that he reverted to the mean a bit in terms of goals, but his all round game seemed as good as it was with us? There's clearly questions about his attitude, but with him knowing he's OOC in a year I guess you just have to hope he plays ball. For all the accepted wisdom that he fell out with Goodwin, when there's no actual concrete story it wouldn't surprise me if it's less Watt being an arsehole and more United freezing him out because of the ridiculous wage he's on.

Ketts got a tune out of shite like KVV and Bair, imagine what he'll do with a baller like Tony?
